We Are The City release ‘Above Club’ documentary!

"...a band for the long haul." - Drowned in Sound
"...billowing, headily inventive music…" - Clash
"Crashing Mew-esque guitars boom behind rampaging drums..." - The Line of Best Fit
To celebrate the release of their latest album Above Club, We Are The City have shared a brand new documentary about the making of the album itself as a live stream experiment... or so they say.
The Canadian three piece have described the documentary as "a candid and often absurd chronicle of a social media experiment… Experimenting with social media, disguises, no sleep, lying, and an angry Serbian landlord.”
We Are The City wanted to make social media as artistic as possible. As a result, they shut down all of their social media outlets to create a 'blackout effect', so they were nowhere to be found online. They told their fans that "Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter can be considered necessary evils that become destructive when overused".
You can watch the full documentary now via the band’s YouTube channel.
We Are The City’s latest album Above Club is quirky and experimental journey in sound, following on from their album, Violent, which was released earlier this year receiving praise from the likes of Drowned In Sound and The Line Of Best Fit.
The trio recorded the album via a live stream on their website throughout October, where fans could watch the band eat, breathe and sleep the writing and recording process.
The band's latest single Kiss Me, Honey - from the album - is also available to watch on the band’s YouTube channel now.
With a blend of Cayne McKenzie’s tropical keys and distant ethereal vocals with Andrew Huculiak’s tribal drums and David Menzel's minimalist and atmospheric guitar, the trio create a whirlwind of music that elevates the listener to new heights. There’s also a strong message of positivity in the lyrics as, faced with the trials and tribulations of life, no matter how tempting withdrawal from the world can be, it’s important to power through and find the strength to carry on.
We Are The City are also talented directors, script writers and film producers, creating their own music videos and even their own film Violent. The band’s influences range from Deerhoof to Bowie and although this can be heard in their quirky, off kilter time signatures and whimsical melodies, they’ve very much carved out their own personal sound.
Above Club is out now via Sinnbus and is available to buy on iTunes.
HAWK release new video for The Hunt!

“…a sharply defined melodic affair…"- Clash
"...emotional..." - Stereogum
“…stunning…” - Noisey
“…simply sublime…” - The Line of Best Fit
HAWK have released an eerie new video for single The Hunt, taken from their forthcoming self-titled EP out April 15th via Veta Records.
The video premiered on Stereogum and you can also watch it via the band's YouTube channel.
Matching the slightly sinister nature of the the song, the video finds the band being followed through a forest by a group of strangers. Julie Hawk's beautiful vocals flow from haunting verses to powerful choruses with crashing drums building a crescendo of noise. Continuing with their darker, grungier and ultimately bigger sound, The Hunt is the second track to be taken from the band’s upcoming self-titled EP. The band collaborated with producer Dimitri Tikovoi (Horrors, Placebo, Marianne Faithful) on The Hunt with the track mixed by Catherine Marks best known for her previous work with Wolf Alice and Howling Bells.
Since the release of their last EP Clock Hands in 2015, the band can already count the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Noisey, Clash, Music Week, The Irish Times, Radio X’s John Kennedy, Amazing Radio and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson and Chris Hawkins as keen supporters.
The Hunt and self-titled EP HAWK are both out on April 15th 2016 via Veta Records. You can pre-order the EP on iTunes now.
The Cradles’ latest single ‘Ideal Girl’ out now!

“…a powerful blast of young energy.” - Clash
“Intriguing psych-inflected indie-rock” - Songwriting Magazine

now.
The video for the single premiered on Clash and you can also watch it via the band’s YouTube channel now.
You can also stream Ideal Girl via The Cradles’ Soundcloud page or via the embed below.
Ideal Girl tackles universal themes of wallowing in self-pity as one blindly searches for love and companionship. The track kicks off with a ‘Misirlou’ style surf-rock guitar riff before building into a undeniably catchy chorus akin to the likes of early Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines. Lead singer Joe Norman’s vocals water tight throughout, as he emotes an almost effortless feeling, whilst still managing to maintain a gritty yet dynamic rock sound.
Having met at school in Cardiff in 2012, The Cradles quickly started to make a name for themselves on the local music scene in Wales, and have now cemented themselves as one of South Wales’ most celebrated acts for 2016. Band members Joe Norman (vocals), Kieran O’Brien (guitar), Luke Haines (bass) and brothers Toby Andrews (guitar) and Declan Andrews (drums) have been praised for their live performances in particular, cutting their teeth and honing their set while supporting the likes of Pretty Vicious and The Bohicas.
The Cradles have received support from the likes of BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson, Radio X’s John Kennedy, BBC Radio Wales’ Adam Walton and Bethan Elfyn alongside a variety of online websites and blogs. As well as landing support slots, the five piece have also played a number of festivals including Swn Festival, X Music Festival and they will be supporting Bill Ryder-Jones this March. The Cradles are eager to show that they are not just another indie rock band, rather they are a band of unique personalities who’s mandate is to write and perform good old-fashioned rock and roll with a modern twist.

Ded Rabbit are brothers Eugene (vocals, rhythm guitar), Fergus (lead guitar), Donal (bass) and Eoin Gaine (drums). Originally from Yorkshire, they relocated to the Highlands in 1996 and through their isolation and love of music, they began playing together ten years ago. After moving to Edinburgh to study, Ded Rabbit started working in the studio where they recorded their last three EPs and where the brotherly unit found their recent partnership with Rocket Science Studios (Texas, Belle And Sebastian and Dougie MacLean).
Since the release of their third EP Moving In Slow Motion, the boys have been working the festival circuit and touring the UK - one particular highlight being headlining the T Break stage at T In The Park last year as well as receiving a SAMA nomination for ‘Best Live Act’. Ded Rabbit have already received praise from BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway and various publications including Gigwise, Record of The Day and The Skinny amongst others. Their previous single Better On The Day reached number 3 in the Spotify UK Viral Chart and The Vodafone Big Top 40 also included it in their '5 future hits you might not know about but really should!' list. She Makes War’s latest single ‘Drown Me Out’ out now!

“…a pioneering revelation that will blow you away.” - DIY
"Why just sing songs, when you can build worlds?" - The Quietus
She Makes War's latest single Drown Me Out is out now via via The state51 Conspiracy. The track is taken from Laura's forthcoming album Direction Of Travel, which is out on April 8th 2016 (online) and April 29th 2016 (physical) and is available to pre-order via She Makes War's Bandcamp page now.
Drown Me Out combines an unabashed love of 90s alt-rock with the gothic undertones of Sisters of Mercy and early Echo & The Bunnymen. Shimmering, grungey guitars bolster Laura's urgent vocals as she tells a tale of suffocation and revenge - it’s a bold statement of intent and a great introduction to She Makes War’s ambitious new album.
You can watch the video for single Drown Me Out via Laura's YouTube channel now.
Direction Of Travel was recorded in the winter months of 2014/15 in Bristol, Brighton and London. Produced by She Makes War, mixed by Dan Austin (Doves, Pixies) and featuring guest appearances from Tanya Donelly and Mark Chadwick, most of the instruments on the album were played by Laura herself, added to by a cast of supporting musician friends including Clive Deamer and Andy Sutor on drums, The McCarricks and Nicole Robson on strings and Cajita on piano.
The songs on Direction Of Travel reveal widescreen ambition, deepening the glittery, grunge-inflected guitar driven sound of She Makes War’s back catalogue while exploring new worlds of cinematic orchestration and heartfelt, confessional songwriting. The songs vibrate with sadness but the album’s message is hopeful - we can all become strong enough to reclaim ourselves, to escape from suffocating situations, process sadness and sorrow and emerge all the stronger for the experience.
