For fans of... Howling Bells, The Kills, Wolf Alice

"...their sharpest, bravest album to

date."
- Q Magazine

"...steeped in an aura of reverb and psychedelia..."
- Consequence of Sound

"...easily one of Britain's best experimental rock outfits."
- Gigwise

The Duke Spirit's poignant new album Sky Is Mine is out now via Ex Voto Records and is available to buy and stream here.

To celebrate the release, the video for the band's latest single Houses premiered on Under The Radar and is now available to watch on the band's YouTube channel.

The band's previous single In Breath premiered on Wonderland Magazine and is now available to stream on The Duke Spirit's Soundcloud page.

Produced by the band themselves, and mixed by Bruno Ellingham (Massive Attack), the album also features guest vocals by long time friends Josh T Pearson (Lift to Experience) on the woozy ‘How Could, How Come’, and Duke Garwood on album closer ‘Broken Dream’.

On Sky Is Mine each song approaches, revises, steps back and looks for humanity on a planetary scale. From the shimmering melodies and prodigious power of tracks like 'Magenta' and ‘See Power’ to the energy-fuelled psychedelic rock of ‘Houses’ and ‘Yoyo’, the album flows with a dark, beguiling grandeur with the majestic allure of Liela Moss’ crystal vocals. Sky Is Mine looks at harm, control and lack of love but burns through it to find the essential human heart.

Talking about the album, front-woman Liela Moss explains: "Sonically, it's the most tender record we have made, the expansiveness will lift hearts but the rawness will burn through greedy fingers. Lyrically, this is where I stand... With feet cold and wet from standing in the sludge of fear that is the world we tread upon, this album snapshots a palpitating heart that values above all things, life. Half-finished sentences describe nasty bits and pieces, shards of cruelty as they are dissolved by being pissed on from a great height with a stream of golden, glowing benevolence!"

Continuing to prove themselves as one of the UK’s most enduring and distinctive rock acts, The Duke Spirit are known for their captivating live shows and will continue to hypnotise listeners with the sweeping power of Sky Is Mine.

Sky Is Mine is out now via Ex Voto Records and is available to buy and stream here.

The Duke Spirit’s EP ‘Serenade’ out now!

Posted Wed, 19 Oct 2016

For fans of: Wolf Alice, Sunny Day Real Estate, Howling Bells

“…a stellar return.” - MOJO

“…powerful rock…” - Drowned in Sound

After the release of their critically acclaimed album KIN earlier this year, The Duke Spirit return with EP Serenade, out on now via Red Essential and is available to buy on iTunes and stream on Spotify.

The single and title track Serenade premiered on The Line Of Best Fit and is also available to stream via the band's Soundcloud page now.

KIN explored themes around the idea of loss but this time front woman Liela Moss says EP Serenade is “a collection of songs that share the sense of running out of time to fix things, fix people - they are a tide slipping away from fingers…”

This sentiment flows through each track but the weight of this theme is given The Duke Spirit’s light, ethereal touch as layers of sound give each track their signature shimmer, maintaining their signature poignant art rock sound.

Single Serenade continues the musical ideas touched upon on KIN’s opener ‘Blue And Yellow Light’. Liela explains that “the part-drone, part-glissando effect of the MS20 synth infuses the track with something otherworldly.” Moss’ ethereal vocals float gently over pulsing synths as the lyrics command you to ‘wait’ to be serenaded. ‘Make It Alright’ tenderly crescendoes and bursts into a glistening verse full of beguiling spirit. ‘Steel Love’ and ‘Throw The Water On The Fire’ are more languid but maintain the band’s enchanting muscular sound.

The Duke Spirit are on tour throughout October to promote the EP, a release that continues to prove The Duke Spirit are one of the UK’s most important, enduring indie rock acts - one with intelligence, heart and soul.

Tickets for the following dates are available via the band's website.

19th Oct - The Fleece - Bristol

20th Oct - The Scala - London

29th Oct - London Calling - Amsterdam

Serenade is out on now via Red Essential and is available to buy on iTunes and stream on Spotify.

The Duke Spirit release new album ‘KIN’ + announce European tour!

Posted Mon, 09 May 2016

For fans of: Howling Bells, The Joy Formidable, Wolf Alice

"...lush and spongey while also swaggering along with a muscular grace." - Stereogum

"More invigorated and fired up than ever." - Gigwise

"...moving, intriguing and poetic work..." - Clash

London four-piece The Duke Spirit return with their best material to date on their fourth album KIN, out now via Red Essential. The album is available to buy on iTunes (UK/Europe only) and Pledge Music (international).

KIN is also streaming now via Stereogum.

The video for single Wounded Wing is available to watch now via The Duke Spirit's Youtube channel.

KIN features ten diverse tracks that range from shimmering alt-indie anthems to delicate songs that cut deep. Recorded by Simon Raymonde (Bella Union / Cocteau Twins), the album explores the frailty of life and the nobility that can be observed by death.

In the space between the band’s last record Bruiser (2011) and their latest offering KIN, TDS have been through a myriad of juxtaposing life changes with Luke Ford (guitar / keys) preparing for the arrival of his first born child to front woman Liela Moss’ loss of her Step Mother in the same week. Life can present unmanageable grief and incredible joy and on KIN the band take us on a journey that balances the fine line between them both.

There are many guest appearances on the album; old friend Sam Windett from Archie Bronson Outfit duets with Liela on ‘Side By Side’ along with maverick appearances from Mark Lanegan, Simon Raymonde himself and longtime TDS collaborator Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey / Gallon Drunk).

Despite the impressive list of collaborators though, KIN is all about The Duke Spirit - emoting their experiences from their hearts and souls. These ten tracks are about the way life touches us all with its brutality but also with tender love and we emerge stronger, more aware and open to the road ahead.

The band have also announced that they will be hitting the road this autumn with a European tour. Tickets for the following dates are available via the band's website (UK), Ticket Master (Germany) and FNAC (France).

10th Oct Patterns - Brighton
