Function Records was set up in 2001 by the members of Lebatol to release their debut single which Steve Lamacq got behind on Radio One and which bizarrely went to Number 2 in the playlist based charts in Serbia on the back of the fishing based video! Initially distributed through Dance Distributor Arabeque we moved across to Cargo in 2003. Whilst Lebatol were on the road they met Escanna and soon after released their split with You're Smiling Now But We'll All Turn into Demons. This was the first signed act on Function and the late great John Peel dropped tracks from both bands several times in 2003 whilst XFM played Lebatol's second Single 'Rate'.

In recent years they have released Hardcore heroes Meet Me in St Louis' first EP, a Caretaker EP, a 7" and EP from upcoming Portsmouth band Munroe Effect amongst others as well as the beautiful mini album from Menendez which was used continuously throughout on BBC2 documentary Grow Your Own Drugs.

In 2007 they forayed into Italy signing proggy-shoegazers Planet Brain and released their debut album over there and in the UK.

2009 will be their busiest year to date with 8 releases penciled in before the end of the year including new signings Nitkowski, On Histories of Rosenberg and Shield Your Eyes as well as new releases from Munroe Effect, Lebatol, Planet Brain and 2 new albums from You're Smiling Now But We'll All Turn into Demons!.

On top of all this the founders of Function also record and produce bands and put on label nights.
