Me And My Drummer release video for ‘Gun’!

Posted Thu, 09 Jun 2016

For fans of... Lykke Li, Bat For Lashes, Jessie Ware

"...lose yourself in the sounds of indie-pop duo
Me and My Drummer."
- i-D

"...hauntingly gorgeous..." - DIY

"...an immaculate construction that feels altogether heartfelt."
- The Line of Best Fit

"...an enthralling piece of synth pop with a real sense of art." - Clash

Me And My Drummer have released their new video for Gun, taken from second album Love Is A Fridge, out now via Sinnbus and available to buy on iTunes.

The video for Gun premiered on i-D and you can also watch it now via the band's YouTube channel.

After the surprisingly folky Blue Splinter View and the drum-driven Pentonville Road, the ease of Gun seems to suit Me And My Drummer down to the ground, showing a more colourful side to this amazing band.

Love Is A Fridge is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey and also includes their single Easy On Me, which you can watch it now via the band's YouTube channel.

The album is ten perfect tracks nothing short of an electropop masterpiece as Matze Pröllochs and Brandi traverse a wide and varied soundscape. Her vocals are stronger than ever, enough to match the soulful electropop tones of Florence Welch or Jessie Ware. An album that musically covers a huge range of styles and ideas maintaining its bold feel and flavour for experimentation all the way through. If you imagine Bat For Lashes meets Lykke Li you’re close, but there’s something somewhat celestial about Me And My Drummer that sets them apart.

Me And My Drummer have received acclaim from a range of sources, but most recently, their single Blue Splinter View was played on Lauren Laverne's BBC 6Music show. The duo have also received praise from the likes of XFM, BBC Radio 1, NME, Rolling Stone, MTV, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Clash and The 405 and with a strong following in their home country, the band are making a bold step forward once again with their second album. The Berlin based dream pop duo are also set to play various festivals in Europe this Summer such as Fuchsbau Festival in Germany and Weisenrock Festival in Austria.

Love is a Fridge is out now via Sinnbus and is available to buy on iTunes and stream on Spotify.

Berlin based electro pop duo Me And My Drummer recently announced their second album Love Is A Fridge, due for release on February 12th 2016 via Sinnbus. The first track released from the album is Blue Splinter View and the band have just unveiled the video. In a nutshell, the band describe the video as featuring a "sad lady spinning in space," but we'll let you take a look for yourself.

The video for Blue Splinter View premiered on The Skinny and was directed by Berlin filmmaker Søren Schaller, watch it now on the band's YouTube page.

Blue Splinter View is one of the more introspective tracks on Love Is a Fridge. The song meanders through an Americana drenched verse, Charlotte Brandi's voice coming over almost as if she is singing a lullaby as a tambourine keeps the beat in the background. The strings that enter in the bridge hint at an impending change, however the power of the chorus, with it's choral, passionate vocals still knocks you back with it's power. In her own words Charlotte says it's "about spinning on your own axis in space", the lyrics eluding to the complex feelings we are confronted with during a break up, where the former partners remain close.

Me And My Drummer: ‘Don’t Be So Hot’ (Tale Of Us & The/Das remix)

Leftfield alt pop duo Me And My Drummer released their debut album The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey last month via Sinnbus.

The band have been making waves throughout muso circles this year with the build-up to the album having already released three singles - You're A Runner, Heavy Weight and Don't Be So Hot - all of which have received support from XFM's John Kennedy and Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC 6Music's Tom Ravenscroft and Chris Hawkins and BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens. The videos for the single have received support from Artrocker, NME, Spinner, The 405 and various music websites and blogs online.

On the album The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey, there's a real feeling that you're taking an intimate journey with the band from start to finish. Starting introspectively with "Phobia" the track builds and crescendos into a gloriously epic finish. Single "You're A Runner" follows suit starting quietly, climbing to a glorious cacophonous end and before you know it, it's over - a beautiful little slice of intelligent pop. With "The Wings" however, there's a change of pace. There's something slightly triphop about the simple, off-kilter beats and Charlotte's delicate, harrowing vocals sliding seductively over the music, akin to bands like Portishead and Lamb. It's after this track that the album starts to change direction with "Down My Couch" and "Heavy Weight". The latter's summery dance pop beats and interesting breakdowns could easily contend with the best of what the alternative side of the pop has to offer - imagine if Florence Welch fronted Friendly Fires. Me And My Drummer' journey reaches its completion on a quiet note - "Runner (Reprise)". But as the last track comes to a close, you'll find yourself hitting the play button all over again as each track reveals something new upon each listen.

Charlotte Brandi and Matze Pröllochs met in Tübingen (Matze's hometown), Germany, whilst working in a theatre; they were both stage musicians signed on for three productions in a row but it was their mutual musical inspirations that brought them together. The pair site Micachu And The Shapes, Beach House, The Roots, Ella Fitzgerald and M.I.A. as some of their melodic influences. Hip hop, electro and pop have all had a baring on how they write music, which is clear to hear on The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey.

A Badge of Friendship Update: Music, Comedy and More!

Posted Mon, 30 Jul 2012

Now we're officially striding through the last half of 2012, we thought it was about time we sent out an update. 2012 has been our busiest year yet working on a variety of wonderful clients from Last.fm to comedian Doug Stanhope and an array of wonderful bands and labels.

If you'd like to read more about our PR and event management services, please check out our ABoF case studies pdf which you can download online. If you'd prefer to get in touch personally, please drop us an email here: info@abadgeoffriendship.com.

Coming up...

We're about to add an array of wonderful new clients and projects to the ABoF roster - we've not announced all of the bands, comedians and new projects we're working on just yet but we're not ones for holding back the good stuff so we thought, why not just announce them here? Don't say we don't spoil you!

We're very excited to be working on comedian Dave Hill's forthcoming book Tasteful Nudes. The multi-talented Mr. Hill has appeared on the US TV show The King of Miami, currently appears as on-air talent for HBO and Cinemax and currently fronts the band Valley Lodge and plays guitar with Walter Schreifels' (Rival Schools, Quicksand) solo band and Diamondsnake, a hard rock band also featuring Moby. Tasteful Nudes will be released in October, we'll have more information on this release and Dave very shortly.

Continuing on from last year's pop-up sessions, we're working with Last.fm on their Originals sessions. These sessions are an intimate an exclusive look at new and established artists featuring interviews and exclusive live performances.

Berlin based duo Me And My Drummer have already released two tracks from their forthcoming debut album The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey and the anticipation is building. Hailed as a cross between Florence + The Machine, Bat For Lashes and Delphic, they've already got John Kennedy and Mary Anne Hobbs (XFM), Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1) and Tom Ravenscroft and Chris Hawkins (BBC 6Music) signing them praises. The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey is out on September 24th via German label Sinnbus.

Scottish band State Broadcasters release their second album Ghosts We Must Carry via Olive Grove Records on September 24th. They just released a free download of the album track "Trespassers" with another to follow in August just before the album's release.

Another fantastic Olive Grove release coming up is Jo Mango’s album Murmuration. Having already collaborated with Vashti Bunyan and Devendra Banhart, this much anticipated album will showcase Jo’s brilliant songwriting talents as a solo performer.

Also watch out for new artists Cara Mitchell, The Maginot Band, Verse Metrics, Jonny & The Giros, Shirock, Damian Cox, Humphrey Milles, The Jar Family plus more releases from ABoF favourites Atom Eye, Turnpike Glow, The Birthday Suit and The Murder Barn. We'll be posting out information on all of these very soon!

2012 so far...

It's been a year of great releases so far here at ABoF towers. However, not only have we been working with some of the finest new bands around, we also had the chance to work with controversial comedian Doug Stanhope and top music sharing platform Last.fm.

Doug Stanhope released his latest DVD Before Turning The Gun On Himself back in March and completed another successful UK tour, which ended on a high to a packed out audience at the Hammersmith Apollo. The DVD was released to rapturous reviews with Doug appearing in the Shortlist, Rock Sound, MOJO, Nuts and Front on the run up to its release.

After the success of their pop-up sessions with HP last year, Last.fm asked ABoF to event manage their media party with HP earlier this year. The party was to celebrate the activity their activity in 2011 with David Guetta headlining the event.

We've been working with even more brilliant new bands this year, we’re very proud of the quality of our roster this year. We would love to list all the amazing bands we've worked with this year but instead we've put them all on this handy Soundcloud set and you can also read about some of our highlights below!

Knifeworld returned with their strongest release to date - Clairvoyant Fortnight. The EP followed 2011's critically acclaimed EP Dear Lord, No Deal and their 2009 debut album Buried Alone: Tales of Crushing Defeat. Prog Magazine and Rock A Rolla heralded the EP a success and special praise went to their brilliant (and slightly mental!) video for 'Clairvoyant Fortnight', which featured snooker legend Steve Davis.

Scots boys Vigo Thieves have gone from strength to strength providing T in the Park with this year's 2012 theme tune, playing the BBC Introducing stage, packing out shows in Scotland and appearing on Classic Rock, Drowned in Sound, Spinner and NME.com to name but a few.

French Wives have also been flying the flag for talent in Scotland. They released their album Dream of the Inbetween this year with everyone from BBC 6Music, The Line of Best Fit, The Herald, The Fly and The Skinny Magazine singing them praise.

Me and My Drummer release free track ‘Heavy Weight’

Posted Mon, 25 Jun 2012

Berlin duo Me And My Drummer’s next offering will be the free download single Heavy Weight, taken from their spectacular forthcoming debut album The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey.

Heavy Weight is the follow-up to the band’s debut single You’re A Runner, which received support from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, XFM’s John Kennedy and Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC 6Music’s Chris Hawkins and Tom Ravenscroft. The video for the previous single was also featured on NME, Spinner and Artrocker.

Vocalist Charlotte Brandi’s lilting vocals and synths with Matze Pröllochs’ off-kilter beats merge beautifully creating gorgeous layers of sound that strike the perfect balance between dance, electro and whimsical pop - imagine Delphic fronted by Florence Welch or Marina Diamandis (of Marina and The Diamonds) and you’re half way there.

The video for Heavy Weight is available to watch now on Sinnbus records' YouTube page.

Charlotte and Matze met in Tübingen (Matze’s hometown), Germany, whilst working in a theatre; they were both stage musicians signed on for three productions in a row but it was their mutual musical inspirations that brought them together. The pair site Micachu And The Shapes, Beach House, The Roots, Ella Fitzgerald and M.I.A. as some of their melodic influences. Hip hop, electro and pop have all had a baring on how they write music, which is clear to hear on The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey.

Heavy Weight will be available to download from the Sinnbus Soundcloud page on 25th June 2012 and will be followed by the band’s debut album The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey out on 24th September 2012.

German duo Me And My Drummer release their debut single You're A Runner today, via Berlin based label Sinnbus.

You're A Runner is available to download now for a limited time only via the A Badge of Friendship Soundcloud.

The single is about "someone driven to the edge and an abyss" says singer Charlotte Brandi. "The singer embodies the voice in her head, 'the angel on her shoulder' so to speak." The track builds around this theme with Matze Pröllochs' steady beats acting as a backbone to the melody, which builds perfectly. Charlotte's deliberately off-kilter vocals crescendo into gorgeous lilting tones that match the intense and explosive chorus. You'e A Runner makes a worthy comparison to epic, alternative modern pop acts such as Florence + The Machine and Bat For Lashes.
