Outblinker release charity single ‘Hallogallo’!

Posted Tue, 15 Nov 2016

For fans of: Neu!, Blanck Mass, CAN, Fuck Buttons, Holy Fuck

"...Glasgow's standard quo rejectionists..." - Spin

"...as blissful as they are boisterous." - NME

"...it'll latch onto your lapels and drag you into a claustrophobic abyss." - The Line of Best Fit

"...slick, modern Kraut for an uneasy Britain...." - The Skinny

Glasgow’s Outblinker have released charity single Hallogallo, a cover of Neu's 1972 krautrock classic, out now via Human Is Not Alone and available to purchase via the Human Is Not Alone Bandcamp.

The video for the single premiered on Poule D'Or and is now available to watch via the Outblinker YouTube channel.

This single heralds the band’s forthcoming 5 week European tour and people will be invited to name their price for purchase, with proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care to support their excellent work helping people and their families affected by cancer.

It's a cause inspired by the name-sake of Outblinker's recent EP The Remains Of Walter Peck and the suitably psychedelic video clip that accompanies it - super-cut from Koji Shima's 1952 B-movie favourite Warning From Space - is a playful reflection on the impending demise of planet Earth (quite probably at our own hands) and our inevitable need to one day set off into deep space to have any hope of surviving as a race.

The video and single riff on the wry nihilism of the aforementioned EP's weighty subject matter as well as taking an affectionate look at how artists and visionaries - like Japanese film-makers and German rock musicians - have mused on the mystery and majesty of the universe.

For anyone who ever spent their evening kicking back, skinning up and losing themselves in the repetitive cyclic beauty of Neu! and their krautrock peers, this sort of flight of fancy will be familiar.

Outblinker’s ‘The Remains of Walter Peck’ EP out now!

Outblinker have released their EP The Remains of Walter Peck, out now via Stabbed In The Back Records and available to buy via Bandcamp.

A successful campaign has seen support range from SPIN who premiered the free download track 'Farrokh Bulsara' and described it as a "Frankenstein-like musical creation", The Line Of Best Fit who premiered the video for title track 'Walter Peck', Clash who excusively streamed the EP and The Skinny who scored the record 4/5.

'Farrokh Bulsara' is also available to stream via the band's Soundcloud now.

You can also stream the video for 'Walter Peck' via Outblinker's Youtube channel.

Quite simply Outblinker “play music and aim to improve your life thusly”, but with the release of The Remains of Walter Peck the band wanted to explain the experiences that led up to their new EP:

Fame is just so fucking futile. That's the thing about being an outsider. You accept your fate. You know that 50 years from now a bank won't be butchering your work to flog mortgages to suckers. You make your noise and you watch it echo for a bit then dissipate. Like our protagonist, Walter Peck, your ashes are gradually diluted by a planet of dirt and your music even more rapidly subsumed by the white noise of the world.

In many ways, Outblinker owes it's existence to Walter and certainly this EP would never have been recorded or co-written with Benjamin John Power (Blanck Mass/ Fuck Buttons) were it not for Mr Peck's unifying influence. His friendships, a chance meeting, a jar of human remains and a table of beers. It's a long story. Suffice to say he'd suggest we enjoy it while it lasts.

The product of a musical pilgrimage to record in a medieval church on a remote island in Orkney, these three songs are a precursor to Outblinker's debut album (due October 2016) and a tribute to the transitory, fleeting nature of everything we seek to build and accomplish. All the beauty, all the greed, all the pride and all the fucking politics. Given long enough, none of it will last. And thank fuck for that.

When the lights across the planet finally go out for the last time and all the MP3s evaporate in microscopic puffs of electrons and all the CD's lie scattered across the land like the scales of some huge, extinct fish: what then for all these idiotic fucking pop songs? And what then for the Bach and Simone, Mercury and Mingus?

Nothing. That's what. Sweet anonymity. Sheer oblivion.

And as time marches on ceaselessly into that eerie, silent new era, none of those chart anthems will mean any more than the centuries of forgotten folk music, decades of shitty demo tapes or the deluge of vacuous, ironic, indie shit currently sloshing around. How will Virgin, Warner, Universal and Sony trick kids into buying their cynical, hollow bullshit then? Especially when there are no kids left to fleece.

Art is for now so eat your fill. You're not taking it with you and ultimately there's no point leaving it here. Walter Peck taught us that much.

Outblinker release ‘Pink (Machines In Heaven MIX)’!

Posted Tue, 28 Jul 2015

"...as blissful as they are boisterous." - NME

"This is slick, modern kraut for an uneasy Britain..." - The Skinny

For fans of: Holy Fuck, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Neu!, Fuck Buttons

Following up their sonically intense Pink/Blue EP, Outblinker are back with free track, 'Pink (Machines In Heaven MIX)'.

The song premiered on State.ie who called it "positively savage." You can stream and download it now via the ABoF SoundCloud Page.

The Skinny premiered the video for EP track 'Blue', describing it as "tripped out and politically emblematic" before asking the band to talk them through the footage. You can watch it now via the band's
YouTube channel.

Alongside choice contemporaries, Outblinker are looking to bring electro, krautrock and new-wave back to the underground. Up close and personal. No laptops. No safety net. So it follows all aspects of Outblinker (including recording, production, videos, art) handled in-house or via close friends, such as Good Grief Records who will be releasing the forthcoming EP, PR collaborators A Badge of Friendship or Ben Powers (Fuck Buttons/Blanck Mass) who will be producing the group’s debut album this autumn. The emphasis is on side-stepping the inherent bullshit-machine of the modern industry as often as humanly possible.

The EP has already received support from the likes of NME and The Skinny, so if you enjoy the sounds of Holy FuckGodspeed You! Black EmperorMarvinFuck Buttons/Blanck MassTrans AmNeu! and Turing Machine, then chances are you might get a kick out of this.

The Antoni Maiovvi remix of EP track 'Blue' is also available to download for free via the ABoF SoundCloud page, and you can watch Outblinker's
video for 'Pink' on their YouTube channel.

Pink/Blue by Outblinker is released via Good Grief Records / GabuAsso and available to buy digitally on iTunes and on limited edition 10" vinyl via Bandcamp.

Outblinker is a band not a brand. Something had to be done about the waves of soulless, corporate electro-shit masquerading as art, clogging up our creative veins. They will not be appearing in-store at Topshop or on Hollyoaks in the near future. They have no plans to release their own perfume. They do not endorse Red Bull. They would, however, like the opportunity to blow your face off with huge, cinematic driving krautrock: abrasive electro music with a throbbing punk-rock heart.

Brothers Costello (Jason & Graham), the duo behind Outblinker, also form the formidable avante-noise duo Young Philadelphia. Luigi Pasquini is one half of astonishing art-rock outfit Kabobo. David Warner and Chris Cusack are ongoing contributors to Foreign Tongue, the latter-day incarnation of Scottish DIY post-punk outfit Hey Enemy. It was partly a sense of moral duty that brought these five individuals together as well as a compulsion to explore new musical terrain and provide live audiences with tunes worth dancing to whilst avoiding a stage dominated by Apple logos and 5-figure, synchronised, cascading LED light-shows.

Alongside choice contemporaries, this quintet are looking to bring electro, krautrock and new-wave back to the underground. Up close and personal. No laptops. No safety net. Introducing… Outblinker!

For fans of: Holy Fuck, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Neu!, Fuck Buttons

Electronic music doesn't have to be cynical, corporate, sync-obsessed junk-food and post-rock doesn't have to be meandering, delay-ridden, formulaic box-ticking. Outblinker is a band not a brand.
