Lost In Stereo release debut EP ‘Famous First Words’!
"...damn catchy tunes that could rival
any classic pop punk banger."
- Upset
Forming back in 2015, Glasgow band Lost In Stereo's debut EP Famous First Words is out now via Lost Records. It is available to stream via Spotify and buy on iTunes.
The band's infectious first single Tear Out The Pages premiered on Upset Magazine and is also available to stream on the Lost In Stereo Soundcloud page.
Inspired by the belief that you should be yourself, Famous First Words is filled with five infectious slices of melodic pop rock. From the fast-paced energy of ‘The Most Anticipated Summer Blockbuster (Of The Year)’, to the raging riffs and emotion-strewn vocals of ‘Tear Out The Pages’, the EP oozes elements of pop punk favourites such as Good Charlotte, whilst the band still maintain their own distinct, fervent enthusiasm.
Having already supported The Ataris and headlined Glasgow’s infamous King Tuts, Lost In Stereo look set to be filling stadiums in no time at all with this hugely catchy, energy-fuelled collection of anthemic rock.
Co-written by Stefan Abingdon (The Midnight Beast), Famous First Words is out now via Lost Records. It is available to stream via Spotify and buy on iTunes.
Greta Isaac announces new single ‘Tied’!
"...Greta Isaac is a name to watch
out for in 2018."
- Mahogany
"… acoustic instrumentation, textured samples and soaring vocals...”
- The Line Of Best Fit
Following the success of her previous release Comfortable, Welsh artist Greta Isaac is back with an another instantly addictive single. Tied is out now and available to stream on Spotify and buy on iTunes.
Tied premiered on Huw Stephens' BBC Radio 1 show, as well as Mahogany and is now available to stream on Greta Isaac's Soundcloud page.
Her project, as a whole, is an exploration into habits and destructive human tendencies. Each song explores and exaggerates a different unhealthy trait from the perspective of a neurotic character. Whereas Comfortable explored apathy and selfishness, Tied is about being stuck in a relationship with something or someone and trying to break free but, ultimately, ending up where you started.
Another slice of superbly crafted, glitchy electro-pop, Tied fuses together Greta’s folk roots with smooth electronic production. More uptempo in sound than her previous offering, the track races with off-kilter tribal beats juxtaposed with sweeping, honey-sweet vocals and soaring pop sensibilities. Interweaving an eclectic collection of rich musical layers, Isaac has created a truly innovative and uplifting soundscape.
Performing with her sisters on BVs, in addition to mandolin, guitars and double bass, the band are already gaining a reputation for delivering captivating live performances. Greta Isaac has just debuted her project with a sold out London show at a secret location, as well as wowing crowds at Festival No.6. Now, having gained attention from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, The Line Of Best Fit, The 405 and Mahogany, Greta Isaac is set to continue seducing listeners with her beguiling alt-pop creations.
You can catch Greta Isaac live next at a headline show in Cardiff soon to be announced.
Tied is out now and available to stream on Spotify and buy on iTunes.
Introducing… Permahorn!
"...matches highly personal lyricism with sounds to get lost in." - Clash
Borne out of the ashen embers of separation and divorce, Permahorn are a Scottish/Serbian London-based duo who have compiled a selection of brooding, heartfelt songs on a cathartic debut album, the Kramer (Bongwater, Galaxie 500, Ween, Daniel Johnston, Low) produced My Blood Carries My Dreams Away, due for release on 1st December 2017 via Shimmy-500.
To celebrate the album announcement the duo have unveiled the records title track. It's a swaying schizophrenic offering where churning backward loops swirl, accented beautifully by vocals incorporated from 20-year-old tapes recovered by producer Kramer. My Blood Carries My Dreams Away premiered on Clash and is now available to stream embed via the Permahorn Soundcloud page.
Taking cues from slowcore bands such as Galaxie 500, The Red House Painters and Arab Strap, My Blood Carries My Dreams Away plays out like a Nico record covered by Low via the nightmarish vision of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. Taking shape over a twelve month period, the duo used music as an escapism from what was an emotionally difficult time; offering a sense of relief in the process. The result is one of the best records you’re likely to hear in 2017.
On the surface My Blood Carries My Dreams Away is a bleak album tackling themes of desire, obsession, deceit and guilt. Despite this, there are small buds of hope, optimism and a sense that there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Inviting the listener on their melancholic journey the record throws up surprises throughout, from the feedback-laden ‘Radiation’ conjuring memories of Pavement to the wonderfully delivered deadpan vocals on the Nico inspired ‘Into The Dreams (Slut)’ and the harrowing ‘Lynch Mob’; a track Arab Strap would be proud of. Sonically, My Blood Carries My Dreams Away leads you down dimly lit alleys, to be lost forever in the morose world of Permahorn.
Comprised of Saint Pauly (guitar, vocals, percussion, knobs) and Jexy Pesic (bass, vocals, drums, switches), the duo were taken under the wing of Shimmy-Disc producer Kramer who mixed and mastered their songs at his Noise Miami studio. Impressed with their songwriting ability, Kramer selected 11 tracks from the initial batch of demos and worked with them to create an album to be released on his new Shimmy-500 vinyl-only label. Now, with an incredible debut record complete and the backing of an iconic record label, Permahorn are eager to share their sound with the world.
My Blood Carries My Dreams Away is due for release on 1st December 2017 via Shimmy-500.
Introducing… Rivera!
"...a simple yet profound message..."
- Clash
Rivera is the new musical project from songwriter and musician Inti Rowland. Born in Chile and raised in London, the music of Rivera has been built between two cities. His songs are soaked in the sunshine of Santiago and coloured by the chaos of London. The captivating debut single We’re Alive is out on 6th October 2017.
The single premiered on Clash and is now available to stream on Rivera's Soundcloud page.
The single tackles the delicate subject of a car crash on a reckless night. Inti explains “When your confidence runs away from you and you think you’re invincible. The song is about surviving what you bring upon yourself.” As the single builds, Rowland’s rich, warm vocal mesmerises instantly, fluctuating from a stunning falsetto to a deep, baritone akin to Elbow's Guy Garvey. Musically, We’re Alive combines soaring guitars with subtle electronics and driving percussion to create something dark and full of intrigue.
Working with a group of musical collaborators and long standing friends, including Sam Rowe (drums, backing vocals) and Jackson Dimiglio-Wood (producer), throughout 2016, Rivera was born. With the tail end of the year spent in South America, Inti travelled across the Atacama Desert from the north of Chile into Bolivia, the landscapes became the artwork and visuals of Rivera.
As a solo artist, Inti Rowland has received praise from a number of publications including Clash and Gold Flake Paint as well as plays on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6Music to name but a few. Now, under a new moniker, Rivera is ready to hypnotise further listeners with the release of his debut single.

HAWK tackle Irish abortion laws on new single ‘Below’!
“…waves of heavy percussion and
intertwining riffs." - DIY
"...a raucous dip into empowerment..." - The Line Of Best Fit
“…stunning…” - Noisey
Following their previous majestic release, Sin, Berlin-based HAWK return with the sweeping passion of new AA-side Can’t Explain / Below, out on 17th November 2017 via Veta Records.
Below is also available to stream on Spotify and Soundcloud now.
Inspired by Irish history, the Catholic church and its mistreatment of women, Below oozes a twinkling, ethereal splendour as the spine-tingling emotion of Julie Hawk’s celestial vocals flow. With a rich, haunting grandeur, a shimmering delicacy is juxtaposed with a searing passion and dark undertones, conveying the track’s message with a captivating grace. Julie explains “as an Irish woman, both looking back at how women were treated in the past and the desperate lack of progress today, I feel betrayed by my country. We’re still fighting for basic reproductive rights for women and seeing an embarrassing response from our government.”
Similarly, Can’t Explain is another example of HAWK’s acute social awareness and ability to create powerful soundscapes with a unique, compelling elegance. It was written as a reaction to people’s ignorance and the power privilege has to erase the voices of those who need to be heard. A gritty slice of grunge-filled indie, its propelled by thrashing riffs and a seething passion. Can’t Explain showcases the soaring power of Julie’s vocal at its most intense, as a potent sense of urgency rages throughout.
HAWK originally formed in London in 2014. They now produce all music themselves and have also recently started working with Rocky O’Reilly (And So I Watch You From Afar) to help develop their post-rock sound. In addition to their musical endeavours, front woman Julie is also a skilled illustrator and has recently launched Female Fronted Drawn Together - a project through which she has created a playlist of admirable female bands/musicians and created an illustration to accompany each song.
Since the release of critically acclaimed singles such as Take It Away, Mirror Maze, Once Told and most recently, Sin, HAWK have received support from Noisey, Stereogum, Wonderland, DIY and The Line Of Best Fit to name but a few. Combining an abrasive edge with a beguiling grace, activism is at the heart of all HAWK create, with their music covering a range of topics including inequality, gender-preconceptions, and generalisations faced by different social groups.
Catch HAWK live on 28th September - The Lido, Berlin (w/ The Drums)
AA-side Can’t Explain / Below is out on 17th November 2017 via Veta Records. You can listen to HAWK now on Spotify and Apple Music.
