Introducing… Canshaker Pi!

For Fans Of... Silver Jews, Ought, Parquet Courts, Sebadoh

“…a curiously emphatic rampage…" - Clash

“…a supercharged, highly rhythmic brand of indie rock…" - Stereogum

Dutch four-piece Canshaker Pi are delighted to unveil their entrancing sound to a UK wide audience through the release of What You’re Trying To Say, due for release on 3rd February 2017 via Excelsior Recordings.

The video for the single premiered on Clash and is now available to stream via the Canshaker Pi YouTube channel.

You can also stream the audio for What You're Trying To Say which premiered on Gigslutz, available to listen to on the band's Soundcloud page.

Despite their youthfulness, the band are still in their teens, Canshaker Pi have already beguiled rock royalty having enticed Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus to travel to Holland to produce their album, which was released in August 2016. It’s easy to see why Malkmus described the band as having the talent to “blow the world away with their sound.”; infectious, lo-fi, gritty indie-rock demands your attention as the skilfully arranged sound takes hold of the listener, menacing feedback prowling in the background, melodies twisting and turning throughout, as the simple, yet effective, vocals drive the song to its conclusion.

There is something eminently mature about the bands sound, a sound that has one foot in the past and one foot in the future, creating a noise that appreciatively nods to the likes of Sebadoh and Silver Jews as much as it does contemporary bands such as Ought and Parquet Courts.

Comprised of Willem Smit (lead vocals, guitar), Boris de Klerk (vocals, guitar), Ruben van Weegberg (bass) and Nick Bolland (drums), Canshaker Pi have had a fairly quick ascent since their formation. Having met at school, attending a school overlooking the famous venue Paradiso, the band wasted no time in honing their sound and making their mark on the industry, as they quickly produced two EP’s, worked with Stephen Malkmus and gained support from the likes of Stereogum.

With an album currently in the works and dates in the UK being booked for May, Canshaker Pi are set to make their mark on British music lovers through their fuzz-filled noise rock sound.

What You’re Trying To Say by Canshaker Pi is due for release on 3rd February 2017 via Excelsior Recordings.

Thula Borah’s ‘Near Life Experience’ EP out now!

For fans of... Hum, Aeges, Silversun Pickups, Moving Mountains

“...a sludgy and melodic brand of rock music that recalls Hum, Silversun Pickups, and Blue Album-era Weezer..." - Stereogum

“...unsettling..." - Upset Magazine

Thula Borah have today released their brilliant six track EP Near Life Experience via Kill Jester Records, available to buy on Bandcamp and stream on Spotify.

Putting down a marker for all rock bands in 2017, Thula Borah have produced one of the best records your likely to hear all year, creating a sound that defies any one genre; switching seamlessly from post-rock, post-hardcore and dream-pop to grunge, indie-rock and emo. As a result the band have picked up some amazing support with Stereogum premiering EP track 'Confabulation' and Upset Magazine premiering the unsettling video for official single The Psychopath Test.

'Confabulation' is available to download for free on the Thula Borah Soundcloud page.

The Glaswegian four-piece have taken post-hardcore sensibilities and fuzzed out, meaty riffs and amalgamated them with catchy hooks that demand your attention. Opening track ‘Analysis Paralysis’ combines chiming guitar riffs with heavy distortion, atmospherically enveloping the listener in ways that bands such as And So I Watch You From Afar, Yndi Halda and Explosions In The Sky achieve so well. Single The Psychopath Test recalls the feedback-laden stylings of Hum, while the aforementioned ‘Confabulation’ has the immediacy of an indie-rock classic; a track the likes of Silversun Pickups would be proud. The second half of the record is more subtle, introspective, as the band play with a lo-fi sound and simple acoustics, creating an ambience that draws parallels with the quieter elements of bands such as The Appleseed Cast, Moving Mountains and Dads.

Hailing from Glasgow the band initially started when Lloyd James Fay (guitar/vocals) and Matthew Williams (bass/vocals) began jamming with a drum machine in 2009 before becoming a fully fledged band in 2010 when Kevin Heimann (guitar) became a full time member. The current line-up was complete when Michael O’Rourke (drums) was introduced to the band by a friend and Thula Borah haven’t looked back since, picking up support from Stereogum, Upset Magazine, The Scotsman, Punktastic, Gigslutz and BBC Radio Scotland as well as playing festivals such as Jocktoberfest in Inverness and Manchester’s Indie Week Europe.

Near Life Experience by Thula Borah is out now via Kill Jester Records and available to buy on Bandcamp and stream on Spotify..

Marnie releases ‘Alphabet Block’ & announces new album!

“…this really is an an incredibly impressive album that deserves a lot of attention." - Popjustice

For Fans Of... Ladyhawke, Cut Copy, Ladytron, Goldfrapp, La Roux

Following on from her critically lauded 2013 album Crystal World, Ladytron's Marnie continues to develop her very own take on a modern pop sound through the release of Strange Words And Weird Wars, out on 25th March 2017.
Comprised of ten pulsating tracks, Strange Words And Weird Wars showcases the most impressive elements of Marnie’s incarnation as a solo artist along with those that made her band, Ladytron, one of the most respected pioneers in electronic music; soul crushing synths are wonderfully accented by hook-laden choruses as Marnie boldly explores up-tempo electro dream-pop.

The first track to be released is album opener, the unashamedly melodic ‘Alphabet Block’, a track that nods to contemporary pop artists; think an electro-pop fusion between La Roux and Kylie. The song premiered on Popjustice and is now available to stream via the Marnie Soundcloud page.

Marnie's ability to effortlessly play with genres becomes more and more apparent as you work your way through what is such a sonically impressive record. Tracks such as ‘Girls’ expertly creates the immediacy of Ladyhawk’s best work, with ‘Electric Youth’ channeling 80’s mall pop; a glorious guilty pleasure and one of the stand-out tracks on the album. Introspection comes in the form of the shoegaze-inspired ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’, giving the air of an unreleased b-side from a cult vampire movie, while forthcoming single Lost Maps is a pop classic in the making; a single that should be heard on dance floors all over the world.

After moving back to Glasgow in September 2012, after many years living in London, Marnie continued to write music following the success of her solo project and subsequent album release in 2013. Influenced by life, love, loss, politics and all things 80’s pop, Marnie has created an album that has an intelligence and a depth behind what, on the surface, is a melodic contemporary pop record. With support having already come from tastemakers like Pitchfork, Pop Matters and Under The Radar, Marnie will be looking to build upon this through the release of her second solo record; an album that will rightly be deemed one of the most anticipated of 2017.

Strange Words And Weird Wars by Marnie is out on 25th March 2017.

After the success of psychedelic folk outfit The Migrant, frontman Bjarke Bendtsen is ready to transcend furthermore into electronic folk-rock territory with the release of his latest project Rainbrother’s debut album.

Tales From The Drought is all about making your way whilst on the road, dwelling on memories both beautiful and troublesome and coming to terms with the decisions that have been made. Album opener ‘Riverside’ is a stunning piece of songwriting that carries you away into the abyss and as the album continues, so do your thoughts. Each one a little more comforting than the next. Tales From The Drought invites the listener into a speckled dream, filled with steady beats, wistful Pink Floyd inspired guitar slides and a storytelling charm akin to the likes of Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.

While touring with The Migrant in Europe, he performed with a group of fellow Danish musicians and after moving back to his home turf, Rainbrother was born. The album was produced by Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart) whose flickering elements have been spun into the group’s tight rock sound making Tales From The Drought both an earthy and elevating affair.

Bjarke has already received praise from numerous well-regarded publications including Rolling Stone, Americana UK, Drowned In Sound and Pop Matters to name but a few. He has also been praised by the likes of BBC 6music’s Lauren Laverne and has supported acts such as Kurt Vile, Villagers and Sharon Van Etton.
