Introducing… Cadence Kid!

For fans of... Foster The People, Grouplove, Day Wave, Metronomy, Peter Bjorn and John

“…an absolute surefire winner…”
- Crack In The Road

Multi-instrumentalist Cadence Kid, aka Jason Turbin, has returned just in time for the summer with his latest single Hold On Me, released on June 3rd 2016 via My Music Mind.

The stream of Hold On Me premiered on Crack in the Road and you can also stream it now via Cadence Kid's Soundcloud page.

Despite Turbin’s naturally introverted nature, Hold On Me breaks free from the shackles of any perceived reserved demeanour, offering an uplifting feel good anthem exploring themes of love, life and freedom. Showcasing his multi-faceted talent, Jason performs all of the instruments, excluding drums which are constructed by Grammy award winning producer Cassidy Turbin, including violin, viola, erhu, flute, recorder, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, piano as well as vocals. Filled with a whimsical indie pop chorus, evoking comparisons with band such as Foster The People and Grouplove, the resultant single is the perfect companion to whiling away the long summer days.

With a strong background in classical music theory and orchestration, Turbin decided to focus on
recording solo material throughout 2016. Returning to his roots as a singer/songwriter, the musician is currently in the studio with brother and producer Cassidy Turbin. Jason has also orchestrated and composed music for many films including Proxy, the NY Times critics choice Dementia, Oculus, Lynsanity, Pawn Shop Chronicles as well as Dream Theater’s number one album ‘The Astonishing’.

Cadence Kid has already received acclaim from various blogs including IX Daily, Purple Melon and I Heart Moosiq to name just a few and Jason is now eager to share his captivating, upbeat sound with a world-wide audience.

Hold On Me by Cadence Kid is out on 3rd June 2016 via My Music Mind.

Introducing… Bugeye

For fans of... Gossip, Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre, Pins

First invented as kids in the late 90’s, Bugeye had an affecting influence on the London music scene with their stripped down, yet raucous sound, intended to make you shake your hips and tap your feet - a sound that permeated indie disco dance floors throughout the capital. Now the band make a triumphant return with the release of their forthcoming EP Never Let You Go, out on 8th July 2016 via Repeat Records/Badger Recording Co.

To mark the announcement of their new record the band are giving away the thumping opening track 'Disco Dancer' which is free to download now via the Bugeye Soundcloud page.

Having first formed in the late 90’s supporting the likes of The Cranberries at Wembley, Bugeye reformed last year after a series of events drew them back together. The result of these cosmic events, is an EP that not only hints at what could have been, but clears the path for the talented three-piece to fulfil their undoubted potential. Bugeye draws parallels with a number of the defining indie rock bands of the late 90’s/early noughties such as Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre and Gossip as they pursue, with a great deal of success, the ultimate rock and roll sound. Blending cherry-liqueur lyrics, bubblegum-kneecap bass electrics, goth-heavy drum compactions and high-rise guitar sculptures, Bugeye have created a beautifully, unapologetic riot grrrl-inspired record that is both notable for it’s contemporary sound as much as it is for it’s throwback qualities. Quirky, dramatic, offbeat and intensely groovy, Never Let You Go wouldn’t be out of place blaring from the Twede’s Cafe jukebox, accompanied of course by a slice of cherry pie and a “Damn fin cup ‘o coffee!”.

Comprising Angela Martin (Vox, Guitar), Paula Snow (Bass) and Jack Houston (Drums), the trio have reintroduced themselves to the live London music scene with a number of recent gigs around the city and beyond. However, the band are now just hitting their stride with ‘Disco Dancer’ having been released as a free download, the forthcoming release of official single and title track Never Let You Go accompanied by a music video exploring the theme of domestic violence by director, Emma Nathan (director of Anna Calvi’s Suddenly) and the EP itself due to drop in July.

Never Let You Go by Bugeye is out on 8th July 2016 via Repeat Records/Badger Recording Co.

United Fruit’s latest album ‘Eternal Return’ out now!

For fans of... And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead, Smashing Pumpkins, Rival Schools

"a rich blend of alt-rock with pop structures..."
- Spin

"...the kind of pummelling instrumentation you’d find on main stages the world over." - DIY

“...A snorting, snarling, four piece rock explosion…” - Clash

United Fruit have released their brand new album Eternal Return, available to buy now via iTunes and Google Play.

Eternal Return is a heart-pounding blast of energy, hope and passion, featuring some of the band's most accomplished songs to date, as each track unfurls and bursts into a cacophony of riffs, high soaring vocals and hectic beats that will leave you exhilarated by the end.

Ahead of its release, the album was exclusively streamed on Spin.

United Fruit’s recent single Where The Sun Beats Down is also available to stream now via the band’s Soundcloud page.

The Glasgow based four-piece have taken their time with Eternal Return, slowly teasing fans over the last few years with single Open Your Eyes and their Nightmare Recovery EP, which features three tracks on Eternal Return - ‘Ghost Inside Your Head’, ‘Nightmare Recovery’ and ‘Cause And Effect’. Press were quick to pick up on the band’s thrilling punk rock sound with The 405 noting that, if played loud enough, ‘Nightmare Recovery’ would ‘probably wipe all that shit off your face’. Stereogum also featured ‘Ghost Inside Your Head’ after the band played a showcase for the critically acclaimed site at SXSW and they have also picked up coverage on DIY, Drowned in Sound, Clash and The Skinny who have all been strong supporters of the band.

United Fruit will also be hitting the road this month, including an appearance at Glasgow's Restless Natives Festival. Full dates are below:

  • 13/5 - Madhatters, Inverness
  • 14/5 - Restless Natives Festival, St Lukes, Glasgow
  • 15/5 - Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh
  • 21/5 - Tolbooth, Stirling

  • Comprising Iskandar Stewart (vox, guitar), Stuart Galbraith (guitar, vox), Marco Panagopoulos (bass) and Dean Inglis (drums), United Fruit have melded their love of discordant, dissonant chords and melodies before destroying the rule book and creating their own unique sound upon its smouldering ashes. The result is Eternal Return - an eleven song beast that combines angular alt rock and pop, drenched in love, sweat and optimism.

From the uplifting riffs and driving beats of 'Where The Sun Beats Down', which channel the Smashing Pumpkins filtered through an early Rival Schools lens, to Iskandar’s signature anthemic rock vocals on ‘Golden Days’, Eternal Return feels like an exciting journey for the band and one that only scratches the surface of what’s to come.

Eternal Return is out now and is available to buy on iTunes and Google Play.

Vienna Ditto’s latest EP ‘Ticks’ out now!

For fans of... The Cramps, Portishead, Quentin Tarantino, The B-52s, The Long Blondes

"...woozy synths, skittering arpeggios, and explosions of sequined electronics..."

    - Earmilk

“…a record that appears so sonically disjointed flows together quite seamlessly. - Never Enough Notes

Eccentric alternative duo Vienna Ditto’s new EP Ticks is out now via Ubiquity Project Recordings and is available to buy via the duo's Bandcamp page now.

The entire EP, which combines gospel blues, surf rock and primitive electronica to create a sound that is full of naïve wonder, is currently streaming exclusively via The Revue.

The video for title track Ticks premiered on Echoes and Dust and you can also watch it now via the band's YouTube channel.

Guitarist Nigel Firth describes Ticks as "...a twitchy paranoid song about having your identity stolen by a friend." The video hilariously shows Nigel and vocalist Hatty Taylor as their puppet alter-egos driving around town in an increasingly dangerous manner, with tragic consequences.

In addition to Ticks - which you can stream now on the band's Soundcloud page - the band have released another track from the EP, Frank Account, which you can stream from the embed below.

Ticks is a collection of seven sonically-alluring sci-fi blues tracks that slip somewhere between a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack, a charity shop Bacharach-on-the-Moog-Synthesizer album and a bad night on the brown acid.

Each track has its own sound; Frank Account swaggers like a glam rock incarnation of the Andrews Sisters, whilst infectiously-catchy title track Ticks - which grouches along on a deeply Kinks-y riff and a Planet Rock electro beat - crackles with a nameless, twitchy paranoid disgust. The EP also features more gospel-influenced tracks such as Motherless Child, which feels almost like it could be a cut from an Etta James or Nina Simone record, with lead singer Hatty Taylor’s smokey, bruised vocals taking centre stage. The band put the dark, almost dystopian vibe that clings to the whole affair down to “...mainly being up at night, not eating so good and watching (German 20s Expressionist film) Metropolis over and over”.

The pop-noir duo consists of Hatty Taylor (vocal and synth) and Nigel Firth (guitar) who first met in 2000 when Nigel taught an eleven-year-old Hatty to play guitar. Ten years later, they formed a band in Oxford and have been creating exceptional, boundary-pushing music ever since. Nigel is the engine behind Vienna Ditto’s restless experimentation and sonic evolution, while Hatty is responsible for the band’s effortless and enchanting lead vocals.

Vienna Ditto have already received praise from the likes of Q Magazine, Artrocker, Earmilk, Never Enough Notes, BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson amongst others. With Ticks, the unlikely, delectable and ever-so-slightly dysfunctional duo delve a little deeper into the phenomenal sonic capabilities of combining blues, electronica and surf rock to create something truly mesmerising. Catch Vienna Ditto live at the following dates with tickets available from their website:

13th May - Rising Sun Arts Centre - Reading
14th May - The Moon Club - Cardiff
    28th May - Peripheral Festival - Norwich
29th May - Common People Festival - Oxford
    3 - 4th June - Brew At The Bog - Inverness
    5 - 7th August - Sunflowerfest - Hillsborough

Ticks is out now via Ubiquity Project Recordings and is available to buy via the duo's Bandcamp page now.

    Introducing… Twin Heart!

For fans of... Marmozets, Brand New, Paramore, Saves The Day

Melding elements of slickly composed emo-pop with an altogether more abrasive quality to their musicianship, Scottish alternative rock three-piece Twin Heart have found the perfect balance between rapturous hooky song writing and screamo-inspired aggressiveness, exhibited superbly on their debut EP Progress:Decline out July 1st 2016 via Rip It Up Records.

Twin Heart are celebrating today's announcement with the release of rasping opening track 'Ghosts' which is free to download via the ABoF Soundcloud page.

Progress:Decline focuses closely on the band’s experiences of setbacks and successes in the time they have been performing together. Taking influence from artists such as Brand New, Alexisonfire and Saves The Day the threesome have combine intelligently to create subtle, emotional lyrical content with high octane alt-rock, producing a sound they can call their own - incorporating the raw power of a band like Marmozets with the expressive and mainstream sensibilities connected with Paramore at their very best.

Suffocating, the official single due to be released from the EP captures Twin Heart’s energy and passion in four formidable minutes. Dawn Baxter’s voice is powerful yet offers a fragility, conveying the song’s message of being smothered by the weight of the world, an emotion we all can identify with and, alongside the two openers 'Ghosts' and 'Young Eyes', creates a relentless first half of the EP. Instrumental track ‘Progress’ breaks up the intensity brilliantly, allowing the band to showcase a deftness of touch while illustrating a command of their respective instruments, before the calmness is blown away with the epic closer ‘Speak To Me’, the music fading away until the vocals are affectively isolated.

Twin Heart rose from the ashes of Dawn (guitar/lead vocals) and Murray Baxter’s (drums/vocals) previous band Mechanical Smile and, along with Owen Burt (bass/vocals), have gone onto to make a name for themselves on the Scottish music scene having already received support from the likes of Radio X and Amazing Radio as well as sharing a stage with The Xcerts, Ghost Town and Fort Hope.

Progress:Decline is released on July 1st 2016 via Rip It Up Records.
