Cherri Fosphate… The Story So Far

For fans of: The Walkmen, Bloc Party, The Maccabees, Jonathan Fire*Eater

"...fiery, impassioned songwriting..." - Clash

Cherri Fosphate have spent the past few months winning more and more followers amongst music tastemakers with their slick indie/math-rock sound. Having honed their sound through gigging relentlessly over the last few years, the band are now ready to release their debut album We Didn't Come Here To Say Goodbye, and have already received support from the likes of Clash, BBC Scotland's Vic Galloway, STV, Artrocker, Huffington Post and Amazing Radio's Jim Gellatly.

The band have released four tracks from their album so far and, they are all so good, we just had to share them all in one handy playlist! You can listen to the playlist from the ABoF Soundcloud page or by clicking on the embed below.

Official single Neighbour, which was directed by BAFTA nominated filmmaker Tim Courtney, and is an indie-rock tour de force from beginning to end, was the band's most recent release. Watch the video by clicking the embed below.

Beginning their journey in 2012, the members joined forces with the aim of bringing the stripped back, no-frills rock and roll influences of New York’s music scene to Scotland. Comprising of Jonny Sharpe (vocals & guitar), Alan Robinson (lead guitar), Jordan Lannigan (bass) and Sonny Kainth (drums), amalgamated this sound with one closer to home with the likes of Bloc Party making their mark on the band’s style. As a result, Cherri Fosphate have constructed an exquisite, lo-fi fuzz-filled record melded with the more disciplined elements of math rock, creating something truly special.

Having supported Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Boxer Rebellion, Dry The River, The Crookes, Caveman and Honeyblood in the past, as well as making festival appearances at Belladrum, Tartan Heart, GoNorth and Brew at the Bog they are ready to take those next steps towards breaking into the wider consciousness of UK music lovers.

Cherri Fosphate's debut album We Didn’t Come Here To Say Goodbye is released via Bloc+Music on 20th November 2015 and Neighbour is available to buy now on iTunes and Bandcamp.

Freja unveils free track Empire!

For fans of: Lauren Aquilina, Gabrielle Aplin, Birdy

"... beautiful, intimate acoustic songs..." - The Girls Are

In advance of her debut EP Ghosts, out November 27th via ShimmerSun Music, Freja is set to release a free bonus track Empire.

The song is in fact a cover of one by another local band Disrupt the Skies, a post-hardcore group. Taking a song from a band at the polar opposite of the musical spectrum from her allows Freja to really demonstrate her skills as an arranger but also allowing her to really make the song her own.

Empire premiered on The Girls Are but you can also stream it now via the ABoF SoundCloud page.

Freja’s vocals feel effortless, authentic and completely controlled throughout with a hint of her London accent coming through, not unlike artists such as Lauren Aquilina. With delicate vocals and beautiful piano led melodies entwined, Empire gives listeners an intimate insight into Freja’s inner workings and stunning ability as a songwriter.

Freja first started writing songs at the age of nine with dreams of starting a rock band and becoming the next big thing. As time passed, Freja decided she didn’t need a band behind her and ended up with a collection of sincere songs which she can now use at her disposal. Her debut is a celebration of Freja’s youth, covering themes of love, loss and life mixed with folklore and elements of gothic romance.

At only 20 years old, Ghosts is an ode to her coming of age. For the EP, Freja chose her four favourite songs she’d written as a teenager, old friends that she’s ready to introduce to the world on her debut release.

Ghosts is out on November 27th 2015 via ShimmerSun Music.

Imagine, if you will, a socially conscious punk band channeling the sound of a robot Sid Vicious, hopped up on Crass, covering Slayer in an 1877 East End Music Hall: a murky mix of Doctor Who, Doctor Watson and doctored history. TMTWNBBFN spout socially conscious lyrics focused on the nineteenth century that remain remarkably applicable today.

Formed of Andy Heintz (vocals and musical saw), comedian Andrew O’Neill (guitar and vocals), comedian and writer Marc Burrows (bass and vocals), and Jez Miller (drums and vocals), the London four piece’s obsession with murky Victoriana and a flair for writing satirical songs that lose none of their punk edge has seen them grace the stages of Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Green Man, Latitude and the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as sold out shows at London’s Borderline and The Garage.

Not Your Typical Victorians is out now via Leather Apron and is available to buy now via BandCamp.

The Van T’s release ‘Laguna Babe’ single & video!

For fans of: Hinds, Dilly Dally, Dum Dum Girls

“… the musical equivalent of a John Hughes movie.” - Clash

“… guaranteed to make waves…” - Backseat Mafia

Filled with explosive grunge-inspired riffs and intelligent, upbeat melodies, The Van T's have released their brand new video for single Laguna Babe. The video premiered on A Music Blog, Yea? and can now be watched on the band's YouTube page.

Laguna Babe is also available to stream and buy via the band’s Bandcamp page or by clicking the embed below:

The Van T’s have previously released free download track ‘Growler', which premiered on Clash. The track showcases the band's cloudy, noise pop sensibilities magnificently, and can be downloaded for free via the ABoF Soundcloud page.

The single is taken from their forthcoming EP, also called Laguna Babe, which will be released on on November 13th via Bloc+ Music and is a collection of vignettes covering the highs and lows of twin sisters Hannah and Chloe Van Thompson’s life. The two front women create songs that are both personal and quirky as they document the positive and negative experiences of dealing with their late teens, no subject too risqué, as they approach their twenties. The EP’s title track is a no nonsense garage rock number, with a heavy reverb sound giving it an other worldly feel, as grunge-inspired guitar licks and Karen O style vocal delivery captivates you, as their no-frills, high energy sound grips you and doesn't want to let go. This sets the tone perfectly for what’s to come on the EP, with tracks such as ‘Growler’ channeling the surf rock sounds of Hinds and Dum Dum Girls, while providing bassist Joanne Forbes and drummer Shaun Hood an outlet to compete with the twisted synchronicity of dual-leads Hannah and Chloe.

The Van T’s have already graced the stage of T In The Park and Electric Fields as well as recently supporting the brilliant Honeyblood. They plan to spend the rest of they year touring Scotland and beyond as the band begin to break out from their hometown in the west of Scotland, ready to take on the rest of the world.

The Van T's EP Laguna Babe is released via Bloc+ Music on 13th November 2015 with the single available to buy via their Bandcamp page.
