Living Dead Girl release single ‘Skylines’

For fans of: Goldfrapp, Portishead, Ladytron

Following hot on the heels of free download track 'Simulation' the atmospheric and introspective two-piece Living Dead Girl have released their debut single Skylines via LDG Records and is available now from the bands Bandcamp.

Imbued with a jet-black chilling sound, constricting the listener in its snake-like grip, Skylines centres around the idea of looking at the night sky, permeated by the light of stars that have long since died. This concept of celestial ghosts resonates with a person's desire for something tangible after the loss of a loved one, something that can give us solace and comfort.

You can watch the video for Skylines which premiered on Gigslutz below or by visiting the bands YouTube page.

Taking cues from everything from films such as It Follows, Donnie Darko and Edward Scissorhands to bands like Portishead and Massive Attack, the band have constructed an ethereal yet haunting sound. Tackling themes like escapism, fear, reflection and losing ones self, Living Dead Girl's music is an existential journey that every single one of us can, in one way or another, identify with.

Living Dead Girl is comprised of duo Jonno Lloyd (guitar, bass, synth, programming, backing vocals) and Jessica English (lead vocals, synth, piano, programming). The pair met through an ex-girlfriend and began playing in a function band together. Despite coming from creatively different backgrounds where Jonno had cut his teeth in industrial rock bands while Jessica was part of an experimental-pop band, they found a shared love of electronica enabled their artistic interests to combine to beautiful effect. Their macabre music melds elements of electro, rock and trip-hop, creating a goth-gaze sound that wouldn't be out of place in a Tim Burton movie.

Skylines is out now via LDG Records and is available to buy on Bandcamp.

For fans of: East India Youth, St. Vincent, MGMT

The single was also featured on Record Of The Day and you can stream it via Leon's SoundCloud page.

Baby Asteroid offers listeners an escape, taking them on a celestial journey to a place far away from pain and solitude.
It was conceived on the island of Corfu, on a starry summer night in a tiny village, untouched by the course of time. He was inspired by the idea of a weightless world, where harmony and serenity reign. a place where those who have passed away await those whom they have left behind. He sings “we were never alone, we were never alone.”

Greece has always been a great source of inspiration for Leon of Athens aka Timoleon Vermis. In the current climate where the young generation is facing great challenges, more and more artists are finding refuge in creativity. This has resulted in a blooming indie scene in Athens which Leon is proud to be part of. Although he is currently based in London, he often returns to Greece to perform, where he is widely known.

You can stream Leon's previous single Global on SoundCloud and watch the sun soaked video that accompanies it on YouTube.

Baby Asteroid out now via Mimosa's Dream Records.

Imagine, if you will, a socially conscious punk band channelling the sound of a robot Sid Vicious, hopped up on Crass, covering Slayer in an 1877 East End Music Hall: a murky mix of Doctor Who, Doctor Watson and doctored history. TMTWNBBFN spout socially conscious lyrics focussed on the nineteenth century that remain remarkably applicable today, with previous double a-side single The Gin Song / Third Class Coffin along with album tracks ‘A Clean Sweep’ and ‘Miner’ strangely poignant in this new age of austerity.

Formed of Andy Heintz (vocals and musical saw), comedian Andrew O’Neill (guitar and vocals), comedian and writer Marc Burrows (bass and vocals), and Jez Miller (drums and vocals), the London four piece’s obsession with murky Victoriana and a flair for writing satirical songs that lose none of their punk edge has seen them grace the stages of Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Green Man, Latitude and the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as sold out shows at London’s Borderline and The Garage.

The band count Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Robert Rankin and Phil Jupitus as fans and their 2012 release The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing Cannot Be Killed By Conventional Weapons had The Independent On Sunday’s Simon Price giving it a well deserved 4 star review noting it was “packed with droll Victoriana - 1877-meets-1977 fun”.

Not Your Typical Victorians is out now via Leather Apron. You can buy album on BandCamp.

Ex Libras ‘Woe’ EP + free track ‘Drive’ out now!

"...beautiful..." - The Line Of Best Fit

"...refreshing..." - DIY

"...Exhilarating..." - The 405

For fans of: Foals, The xx, Grandbrothers

Ex Libras' latest EPWoe is out now along with free track 'Drive', which is available to download now via the band's Soundcloud page.

After an explosive start with their debut album Suite(s) and follow-up EP Cut(s) back in 2009, the band stepped away from the spotlight, launching themselves into an intense period of creativity. Locked away in their elusive HQ, the SHED, Ex Libras began to play with their sound, planting new creative seeds, nurturing these ideas and slowly but surely new melodies, riffs and beats emerged and entwined like curious, skyward bound branches from Ex Libras' visionary roots, blossoming into four perfectly formed tracks. The result is Woe.

The lyric video for the track 'Woe' is available to watch now via the band's YouTube channel.

Amit Sharma (Guitar / Vocals), Kieran Nagi (Keyboards / Bass) and Ross Kenning (Drums) make their return having honed their sound, which is sharper, more focussed and stronger than before. Four tracks hand picked from their private stash and mixed by Alan Moulder (Slaves, Royal Blood, Nine Inch Nails) to announce to their followers that they are back, and that there is more to come.

Opening track 'Woe' is an explosive return to form, the trio creating an almost overwhelming wall of distortion before morphing into an ethereal chorus, all the while Amit's vocals fluctuating between war cry and lullaby. 'Leap Of Faith' and 'Drive' showcase Ex Libras' keen ear for detailed arrangement, with keys, drums and guitar creating intricate counterpoints while Amit’s vocals soar over the top, channeling the likes of Foals and Radiohead, but with a more delicate touch and channelling the electro-classical tones of the Grandbrothers. Fans will recognise EP closer 'Underachiever' from the band's debut album, yet this newly recorded version is stronger, with greater depth and an intense energy.

Woe is out now via Wirebird Records.

Broken Boy announce forthcoming single ‘Ready’!

"… three-piece indie outfit that's set to take the music world by storm." - Gigwise

For fans of: The Vaccines, White Lies, The Libertines

Scottish trio Broken Boy are back as they prepare to release their brand new single Ready, due out on November 20th 2015 via Vadana Records. To celebrate this upcoming release the band have made b-side 'Kilogram' available as a free download!

You can listen to and download the track on the ABoF Soundcloud page or by clicking on the embed bellow.

Having both played in their own projects in the past, brothers Cam and Stewart Black decided they wanted to bring things back to their roots both in terms of a family connection, and also by trying not to obsess too much about how they wanted to sound, instead setting about writing music that came to them naturally. The result is the brand new single Ready which perfectly blends the best of bands such as White Lies and The Vaccines.

This new release follows hot on the heels of the acclaimed single Just To Leave You and has all the hallmarks of the band’s classic indie sound as crunching guitar riffs are enhanced by a memorable vocal hook, all held together by a fervent, lively drum line.

Ready is an uplifting track encouraging an individual to embrace change and move on to a more positive situation. Cam Black delivers the chorus with gusto as he passionately delivers the line, “But you could be the one to let go…” before the band crashes in behind him, a perfect outlet to the building tension created throughout the verses.

With Broken Boy’s last single Just To Leave You picking up features on the likes of Xfm Scotland and Gigwise as well as having recently played shows with Catfish and The Bottlemen and Circa Waves and a festival slot at XpoNorth, the band have built up some serious momentum this year and look to be heading for a strong finish to 2015.

With the band fresh out the studio with Chem 19’s Paul Savage (Twilight Sad, Teenage Fanclub) and having recently played shows with Catfish and The Bottlemen and Circa Waves, 2015 looks set to be a breakthrough year for the talented trio.

Ready by Broken Boy is due for release on 20th November 2015 via Vadana Records.
