Fuzzystar announces new single ‘Superhero’!
"...off kilter indie pop laden with
dream-like fuzz."
- Clash
"...infectious, reverb-strewn hooks..." - Gigslutz
Taken from his latest album Telegraphing, Edinburgh-based artist Andy Thomson - aka Fuzzystar - continues to create off-kilter indie pop with the release of new single, Superhero, out on 1st December 2017 via Satellite Sounds.
Superhero is available to stream on Soundcloud and Spotify now.
Superhero was written while Andy was going through a rough period, unsure of what the future held. He explains "Making this into a superhero story added a bit of distance to be able to write about it, rather than trying to tell it directly. It's about trying to make the best of bad times and just getting through it, whilst being aware of your own flaws and failings.” The single is another infectious slice of indie-pop, filled with twinkling melodies and Andy’s signature colloquial vocal style, sounding akin to the likes of Big Star’s Chris Bell.
Andy Thomson has been playing solo and in various line-ups as Fuzzystar for years; starting in Edinburgh, with a stint in London, before returning to Scotland. The band name comes from an appreciation of the bands Big Star and Mazzy Star. Now, Fuzzystar is made up revolving cast of whoever is available at the time, hence the name - a star which looks like one star but is made of lots of other stars. Andy has received praise from a number of well-regarded publications including The Skinny, Clash, The National and With Guitars to name but a few. With Superhero, Andy hopes to continue to captivate listeners further with his rich lyrical storytelling and lo-fi melodies.
Superhero is out on 1st December 2017 via Satellite Sounds. Fuzzystar's album Telegraphing is out now and you can buy physical copies through MusicGlue and Bandcamp, as well as download and stream on Spotify.
Steal The City release new single ‘Manufactured’!
“…a consistent, driving energy.”
- IDIOTEQ
Steal The City return with their energising new single Manufactured out now via Redemption / Dharma Records and available to buy on iTunes and stream on Spotify.
The single premiered on Fame Magazine and is now available to stream on the band's Soundcloud page.
The band define Manufactured as their “call to arms track”. It’s a fast paced, guitar driven thriller that always gets the crowd moving during a live set. Guided by passionate vocals and an abundance of all things heavy, the track is designed to increase adrenaline, making it instantly addictive. The single is a rollercoaster ride of emotion, sounding akin to the likes of Silverstein and Rise Against’s ability to create unapologetic, anthemic rock.
Steal The City describe the track as a “fuck you song to the people who try and manipulate or convince you to do what everyone else is doing. Its about saying no to following a basic path or being ‘Manufactured' into something you don't want to be. Every so often we come across someone who tells us we can't do something because it won't pay very well or you should just settle down, go to college, get a degree and work yourself through life.”
The band have already received praise from the likes of The Vinyl District, Dead Press and IDIOTEQ and have spent the last few years building a reputation for their ferocious live sets. With memorable performances at Tramlines Festival and O2 Academy Sheffield already under their belt, the quartet are ready to unleash their riotous sound on the rest of the UK and beyond.

North Atlas reveal new single ‘Volcanoes’!
"...moody electro rock with both
menacing industrial riffs and pop-
laden hooks..." - Team Rock
"...ambitious stadium rock choruses with driving beats." - The Skinny
"...soaring, impassioned majesty..." - Gigslutz
Following on from the pulsating Another Ocean, North Atlas make an immediate return with their single, the energy-fuelled Volcanoes, due for release on 17th November 2017 via King Of The Woöds Recordings.
The single premiered on The Skinny and is now available to stream on the band's Soundcloud page.
Expertly producing a sound keenly associated with traditional stadium-ready rock bands and combining this with elements of shimmering, modern electronica, North Atlas have constructed an emotionally affecting sound that has seen the band gain support from the likes of Team Rock, Kerrang Radio, The Scotsman and BBC Radio Scotland.
Working with producer and Sikth guitarist Dan Weller (Enter Shikari), Volcanoes sees North Atlas progress their sound even further: neatly blending technically gifted instrumentation with a thunderous beat and bold, anthemic vocals.
Tackling themes of self-reflection, the importance of understanding ones self and becoming a better human being, Volcanoes undulates throughout as looped samples glisten, effects-laden guitars swirl and Leon D Hunter’s (vocals) vocals soar.
Having played in a number of bands within the Glasgow music scene over the years, brothers Leon and Cam Hunter (drums / samples) decided to step away from the circuit and spend time mastering the art of electronic music production. Enlisting the help of like-minded musicians wasn’t easy but the brothers made contact with Drew Lesslie (guitar) and Kai Cairney (bass) who shared their vision for marrying a traditional rock sound with a modern electronic approach. This garnered immediate results as the foursome began to produce a number of sonically striking tracks in the studio, before embarking on their first live show together in 2016. North Atlas were officially born and ready to take on the world.
Volcanoes by North Atlas is out on 17th November 2017 via King Of The Woöds Recordings.
Mt. Doubt’s new EP ‘Moon Landings’ out now!
"...easily Mt. Doubt's poppiest sounding track to date with its catchy synth lines and perfectly balanced harmonies."
- The Skinny
"...mixes stark, jangling guitars with
confessional lyricism..." - Team Rock
"...distinctive vocals and accomplished songwriting..."
- The Scotsman
Following the critical acclaim of their previous EP, The Loneliness Of The TV Watchers, Mt. Doubt's new EP Moon Landings is out now via Scottish Fiction. Its is available on Spotify and Apple Music now.
To celebrate the release, the entire EP is streaming exclusively on For The Rabbits now. Mt. Doubt also recently shared the EP track Teeming, which is available to download for free via the band's Soundcloud page.
The video for single Mouthwash premiered on The Skinny and you can also watch it via the band's YouTube channel.
The EP flows effortlessly, combining uptempo indie rock melodies with synth-infused beats and dark undertones throughout. Tracks such as ‘Conduits’ and ‘Teeming’ ooze Leo Bargery’s signature melancholic lyricism and distinctively deep baritone, while ‘A Shy Distance’ and ‘Moon Landings’ use scattered electronics to create something truly atmospheric. Lead single Mouthwash is undeniably catchy from the offset, sounding akin to the likes of Franz Ferdinand’s infectious indie pop roots.
Talking about the EP, Bargery explains “it all really benefits from the input of Ryan Firth who has recently become more involved in the whole recording process with Mt. Doubt. His keys really elevate a lot of the material as do the lovely vocals of Annie Booth, which are a bit more of a focal point here than they have been in the past!”
Starting out as Bargery’s solo project, Mt. Doubt has since expanded into a collective of five musicians, each bringing something unique to the table. Since the release of their critically acclaimed albums In Awe Of Nothing and My Past Is A Quiet Beast, and most recently The Loneliness Of The TV Watchers, Mt. Doubt have received praise from the likes of The Scotsman, The National and Team Rock, as well as BBC 6Music and BBC Radio Scotland to name but a few. They are also no strangers to the Scottish live circuit, having performed at T In the Park, Brew At The Bog and supported We Were Promised Jetpacks, Admiral Fallow and White Lies amongst others.

The Deportees’ debut album ‘The Birth of Industry’ out now!
"...a beautiful lilting tune, replete with
soaring harmonies and soundscape
vibes."
- The List
"...with a strong helping of Diarmaid O’Gallagher’s rich baritone, The Deportees’ music is rich and evocative."
- For Folk's Sake
Over three years in the making, the debut album from Aberdeen five piece The Deportees is now ready for release. The Birth of Industry is out now and available on Spotify and Apple Music.
The band recently shared the video for their latest single I Lost Her to the Sea, which premiered on The List and is also available to watch on the band's YouTube channel now.
The single orginally premiered on For Folk's Sake and is now available to stream on the band's Soundcloud page.
Intended to channel a sense of place, The Birth of Industry is heavily influenced by the unique terrain of the North East of Scotland. Conjuring images of pastoral beauty, in juxtaposition with stark industrial landscapes, it is an ambivalent love affair between five people and the place they call home. From the dark, melodic folk of A Single Truth to the lilting instrumentation and soaring harmonies of ‘I Lost Her to the Sea’ and ‘The Woods’, the album is an eclectic collection of cinematic soundscapes, each fuelled by the sweeping baritone of frontman Diarmaid O’Gallagher.
Having formed in rural Aberdeenshire at the turn of the decade after all separately playing in other bands, The Deportees came together to pay homage to the timeless music that had influenced them as youngsters. With an emphasis on natural instrumentation as a platform for strong melodies and their signature four-part vocal harmonies, the band take influence from their Celtic roots, as much as Americana and the genre-defining folk-rock of the 1980s. Now, The Deportees are ready to unveil their unique blend of rich sounds to the world in the form of this impressive debut.
Catch The Deportees live at their album launch party on 4th November 2017 at Dunbar Street Hall, Aberdeen.
