Fat Goth release ‘One Hundred Percent Suave’!

"Sick Shit." - Rock Sound
"...distortion driven delights." - Kerrang!
The day has finally arrived: Fat Goth's new album, One Hundred Percent Suave, is available now from all disreputable music stores via Hefty Dafty. Kerrang! have already exclusively streamed the album in its entirety for their readers, and reviews from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, Rock Sound, The Skinny and Big Cheese Magazine have been pouring in like a torrent of warm beer.
You can stream and buy One Hundred Percent Suave on Fat Goth's Bandcamp or via the embed below.
'Class A' premiered on Rock Sound and is now available to download from the band's SoundCloud page. The video for the track was premiered exclusively by Kerrang!, and is available to watch on the band's YouTube channel.
You can also download 'Sweet Mister Scary' via Kerrang!'s SoundCloud page as well as Fat Goth's official SoundCloud page.
“If Stud is the overweight, unhygienic, eye contact-avoiding weirdo sitting in darkest corners of the nightclub, One Hundred Percent Suave is the pilled-up, pint-downing, football-chanting nightmare throwing it down on the dance floor and bothering all the females in his general vicinity,” explains frontman Fraser Stewart. “Regardless, the overwhelming self-loathing and bottomless depression are traits both characters share in equal measure.” Despite Fraser’s natural self-deprecating tone, One Hundred Percent Suave is a massive man-sized slab of fun, unadulterated rock that captures Mike Patton’s crooner moments (‘*disclaimer’, ‘Caligynephobia), Queens of the Stone Age and The Jesus Lizard’s signature tight rhythm section (‘Sweet Mister Scary’) and hectic, heart-stopping riffs (‘Class A’). In fact, The Jesus Lizard’s David Yow created the artwork for One Hundred Percent Suave. The band’s dark, twisted, snarling underbelly emerges as the album progresses though, especially on tracks like ‘Lower Pleasance’ and the climactic ‘The Stevie Nicks Method’.
With all these accolades from the press, you're no doubt wondering what all the fuss is about - well, there's only one way to find out. Strap in, strap on a pair and get this album on your stereo.
One Hundred Percent Suave is released via Hefty Dafty with support from Creative Scotland.
Buy it on iTunes or Bandcamp... if you dare.

Douga release free track ‘Blue Is Nothing’

Douga release free download 'Blue Is Nothing', taken from their forthcoming album The Silent Well via Do Make Merge Records. The track is a stripped back and heartfelt soundscape that mixes elements of electronica and traditional instrumentation, with frontman Winbolt-Lewis's vocals creating an atmosphere of serenity complemented by gorgeous strings. The track premiered exclusively on Gigwise yesterday, but it can now be streamed and downloaded from the ABoF SoundCloud page.
'Kids Of Tomorrow' was the first free track taken from the album, showcasing the band's ability to create Lo-Fi yet detailed songs, with distorted vocals backed up by a swell of hypnotic guitar. You can download it for free from our SoundCloud page.
Named after a childhood nickname given by his parents to founder, frontman, and former Plank! drummer Johnny Winbolt-Lewis, Douga have grown from wide-eyed, exploratory experimentalists to BBC 6music featured artists appearing on both Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson’s shows, and now they’ve created a record gripped with a gentle but firm sense of cohesion and clarity. With a studio line-up of Winbolt-Lewis (vocals/guitar/drums,) John Waddington (keyboards/bass) and guest violinist/guitarist DBH - plus additional guitar and engineering work from Raul Careno – the group have built The Silent Well on the foundations of Winbolt-Lewis’ love of kosmische music, through rhythmic repetition and psychedelic drones.
Some of the childhood wonder of Johnny’s initial fascination with music is contained in this release; in the past he’s likened the joy derived from creative expression to losing himself in his imagination as a child, while he recalls “playing with pots and pans and hitting my parents’ piano with a recorder and chipping the ivory keys” as a youngster. So it is on The Silent Well that his wide-eyed sense of the simple enjoyment of creating noise pervades, with sweetly-delivered pop hooks and melodies carefully included so as to pull songs away from their more deep-seated, eyebrow-furrowed backdrops.
Apart from the vocals, recorded at 80 Hertz studio with George Atkins, the bulk of the record was recorded at BlueSCI – a service and space set up in Trafford, Manchester, for people who suffer from psychological and emotional distress. Winbolt-Lewis volunteers there and as such many of the sensitivities of those he comes into contact with have indirectly rubbed off on the record’s own reflective, deeply thoughtful resonance.
Citing artists like Broadcast, Yo La Tengo and Grizzly Bear as influences due to their use of more leftfield textures set against orthodox melodies, there is something about Douga’s music that perfects a sound that can only be identified as their own, albeit inspired by disparate influences picked up along their journey.
So consume Douga’s music and make some time for it amongst frenetic reality – it’s the very least it deserves.
The Silent Well is released on 19th May 2014 via Do Make Merge Records.
We Came From Wolves free download ‘Stallions, Foals, Foxes, Crows’

Following the release of their second EP, Paradise Place, We Came From Wolves have released free download, 'Stallions, Foals, Foxes, Crows'. The track premiered on Rock Sound and is now available to stream and download from the ABoF SoundCloud.
'Stallions, Foals, Foxes, Crows' is an energetic and technical masterclass in thumping rock, with intense guitar attacks offset by Burgess' clear vocals cutting through the distortion. Yet another shining example of just how much talent there is within the Scottish music scene.
The video for EP title track, "Paradise Place", recently premiered as an exclusive with The Skinny. You can also check it out via the band's YouTube channel.
Paradise Place is also available as a free download via the ABoF Soundcloud page.
In just four perfectly formed tracks, the band manage to display different shades of songwriting that flits from the cerebral opening title track, ‘Paradise Place’ to the youthfully exuberant, Biffy Clyro-esque ‘A Bastard Son, A Brother To None’ - a track that you’ll find hard not to belt out as the band lead you into one of the catchiest choruses you’ll hear in a while. Elsewhere on the EP there are hints of contemporaries Kids In Glass Houses and Twin Atlantic - big epic rock hooks being We Came From Wolves’ trademark.
With support already coming from Rock Sound, BBC Radio 1’s Ally McCrae, Amazing Radio’s Jim Gellatly and mentions on Drowned in Sound and strong local support in Scotland, We Came From Wolves are ready to rock 2014.
Paradise Place is out now via Saraseto Records and available to buy on iTunes and stream on Spotify.
