Campfires In Winter release video for ‘Picture of Health’

- The Scotsman
Scottish indie-rock band, Campfires In Winter, today release their video for the download track 'Picture of Health', taken from the forthcoming EP of the same name, which is out via Bloc+Music on 30th September 2013.
Picture of Health follows the successful recently released debut single, White Lights, and confirms Campfires In Winter as a band with serious designs on becoming major players in the UK music industry. The video is a perfect accompaniment to 'Picture of Health' as vintage, black and white footage is cut together faultlessly with the track.
You can watch the video for 'Picture of Health' on the band's YouTube page or, form the embed below.
Consisting of Robert Canavan (lead vocals, lead guitar), Wullie Crainey (bass guitar, vocals), Scott McArthur (keyboard, vocals, guitar) and Ewan Denny (drums), Campfires In Winter have become known for their ability to create a sound that is both experimental and accessible - intricate passages of post-rock guitar, akin to US indie stalwarts American Football, are elevated by wonderful vocal harmonies, a tightly driven rhythm section and all sewn together by alluring dream-like piano pieces.
Picture of Health is a sublime showcase of the band’s undoubted musicianship with tracks like ‘With A Ragged Diamond’ and download track ‘Picture of Health’, highlighting the band’s obvious ambition. Weighing in at over six minutes long, ‘With A Ragged Diamond’ undulates beautifully and allows the members’ talents to shine through. Soundscapes of distorted guitar build neatly into Robert Canavan’s crisp, poignant vocals and are buoyed by faultless harmonies and incessant yet seamless time changes, before coming to a close with the graceful, heartfelt sound of Scott McArthur’s keys - evoking the spirit and beauty of My Latest Novel and Broken Records allied by more eclectic moments produced by bands such as Field Music and Errors.
The EP was self-recorded over the course of a few days in Balneden Steading, a cottage in the tiny village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Scottish Highlands, and mastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering (Otis Redding, Elvis Costello, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Eno, David Byrne).
Campfires In Winter aim to build upon the significant progress they have made as a band thus far having released their debut EP, Cardboard Ships, back in 2010. Throughout the last few years Campfires In Winter have gained support from BBC 6 Music, Vic Galloway, Jim Gellatly, The Scotsman, The Metro and The Sun as well as appearing at Wickerman Festival, goNorth Festival and Oran Mor as part of the West End Festival alongside the likes of The Twilight Sad and Meursault. They’ve also had the privilege of sharing a stage with RM Hubbert, The Twilight Sad and Kid Canaveral and have just played King Tut’s Summer Nights alongside Fake Major.
The release of Picture of Health will maintain the presence the band have built up in what has been a busy 2013 so far. Their hectic schedule looks set to continue with another show at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh with Kid Canaveral, Ballboy and the Cairn String Quartet before heading out on a Scottish tour in September to support the release of Picture of Health.

- 24th September - DUNDEE - Beat Generator

- 27th September - INVERNESS - Mad Hatters
- 5th October - PERTH - The Twa Tams

Introducing… One Unique Signal

- Drowned in Sound
One Unique Signal return with their second album Aether, out on 11th November 2013 via Genepool. The album is a hypnotic ten track journey that effortlessly travels between noise, prog, psychedelia and stoner rock.
You can download the free album track 'Lunar Attractions' now via Soundcloud.
The video for 'Lunar Attractions' is also available to watch now via the band's YouTube channel.
If you'd like to find out more, an EPK is also available via the band's YouTube channel featuring snippets from the album, the band chatting about the album writing process and more information on the tracks.
This second offering feels like the band’s most focussed to date. Although it is only their second full length, it is their eight release overall, making them clear contenders as one of the most hard working bands in the underground scene. ‘Luna Attractions’ packs a punch as the first track on the album, with hints of hectic Sonic Youth rock, crescendoing into glorious noise. This slides effortlessly into ‘A Beginning’ and that in turn takes a darker turn as you reach the middle of the album. ‘Amplitude’ feels like Metz, slowed down, given The Cure treatment and a Slint-esque post-rock edge. It’s quite a mix and a testament to the band’s varied influences. Aether was mastered by Sonic Boom who’s worked for MGMT as well as mastering records for Wooden Shjips and Red Krayola.
Although the band have remained an underground staple since 2002, their music has not gone unnoticed amongst the music press with Drowned in Sound hailing them as one of the capital’s best alternative bands and plays on XFM, BBC 6Music (Introducing) and Resonance FM.
Live, the band have supported Girls Against Boys, Spectrum (ex Spacemen 3), Trumans Water and Part Chimp plus many more. Members of One Unique Signal have also played in bands with Damo Suzuki (Can) and Eat Lights Become Lights alongside their well documented and ongoing association with shoegaze legends The Telescopes.
Aether is the sound of a band able to transcend their scene and wield a sound that effortlessly blends the best of their influences old and new.
The album will be available via Genepool on 11th November 2013.

Anglo-American duo Rue Royale's album Remedies Ahead is out now.
You can download the band's recently released single Set Out To Discover free via the Sinnbus Soundcloud page.
The video for the single was released last week. You can watch it now via the Sinnbus YouTube channel.
The band begin a huge UK and European tour starting with their album launch at The Sebright Arms in London on Tuesday September 9th. Tickets for the launch are still available and you can buy them via wegottickets.com. If you want to find out more information about this gig, check out Rue Royale's Facebook event page or their official website.
Unlike their first two LPs, Rue Royale (2008) and Guide To An Escape (2011), Rue Royale have taken a divergent approach, writing most of their forthcoming work on the road. The pair give the impression of being plucked out of a Wes Anderson film with deliberate, methodical accentuation. Forged from addictive bitter-sweet harmonies, delicate guitar plucks and a patchwork quilt of percussion Remedies Ahead marks a huge step-up for the pair.
Working with co-producer Paul Pilot (Duke Special, Beth Rowley, Athlete) the pair raised funds through Kickstarter with fans pledging with Rue Royale ultimately exceeding their target they decamped to Bat Box studios in Lewes where along with a tailless squirrel they recorded their latest work.
Named after a road running through the Chicago Suburbs, Rue Royale developed from Ruth and Brookln’s transatlantic relationship. With Ruth being brought up on brit-pop and northern soul and Brookln on American folk and southern gospel the pair cite influences as Mark Kozelek, Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Wilco and Air creating a contrasting array of threads in which Rue Royale can form their distinct tapestry.
With their previous releases receiving numerous BBC 6Music and XFM plays as well as a huge interest in blogs worldwide the pair have showcased their unique brand of indie folk taking in festivals, house shows, club gigs and industry showcases across Europe and the US. With their third release looming Set Out To Discover samples Rue Royals latest work as a momentous statement of intent.

- The Herald
Scottish five piece, Dante are delighted to announce the download track 'Son' taken from their forthcoming album, Wake, out on 28th October 2013 via Stitch Records.
Showcasing the songwriting talents of Seán McLaughlin (a member of Idlewild’s Rod Jones' solo project, The Birthday Suit), the band have captured a modern folk sound, exemplified by 'Son', that epitomises the Scottish indie scene's uncanny ability to blend contemporary innovation with more traditional values.
You can download 'Son' below or from the the band's Soundcloud page.
You can watch the video for 'Son' below or on the band's YouTube page.
Ably supported by ex Aberfeldy member Vicky Gray (fiddle / synth / glock / vox), Stephen Thom (electric mandolin / guitar / vox), Ruaridh Kidd (drums / vox) and Stuart Hosking (bass / vox), McLaughlin has created an album conjuring images of weather beaten landscapes, desolate beauty and lives lived at a slower pace, far away from the bustle of an overcrowded city.
Rich vocal harmonies sit seamlessly alongside traditional instrumentation, blended with a modern driven rock beat. Representing the very best of Scotland's lo-fi alternative sound, Dante are sure to win the hearts and minds of fans of Lau, Frightened Rabbit and Arcade Fire.
Wake was part produced and recorded by Frightened Rabbit's Andy Monaghan, who also appears on the record playing bass and guitar, and was written in the Shetland Islands where Sean and Vicky were born.
In a baptism of fire that sits well alongside their infernal namesake, Dante played their first gig in Polmont Young Offenders Institution almost two years ago, and have never looked back. Since then, the band have grown steadily sharing the stage with members of Snow Patrol, supported The Birthday Suit and played with Washington Irving at the Edinburgh Festival.
The coming months will be extremely busy for Dante as they embark on a tour of Scotland and northern England throughout September and October, play a support slot with Dry the River also in October, culminating in the unveiling of Wake at the end of October.
Introducing… Scary People

Dundee based alternative rock band, Scary People announce the release of their debut EP, Smoke, out via RedRoom Recordings on September 23rd 2013.
To promote the forthcoming EP release the band are giving away the track ‘Dreams of Gold’ - a song that confirms Scary People’s ability to produce technically superb alternative rock, energetically laden with time changes and bound by glorious hooks reminiscent of the likes of Death From Above 1979.
You can download 'Dreams of Gold' below or from the the ABoF Soundcloud page.
Scary People were born from the partnership between two tour technicians who had only one week to form a band and rehearse a set before their first gig at a sold out show with fellow Dundee locals, The View. Rising to the task, Dan Forouhar (guitar/vocals) and Scott Anderson (drums) called upon close friends, Steven Anderson (guitar/vocals), Jamie Brown (bass) and Troy Lynch (guitar), to join them to prepare for a show that would immediately gain them an impressive crowd response and, since then, a dedicated following.
The resultant debut EP Scary People have created is one that gives the impression of a band who have been honing and crafting their sound for years. Smoke is an accomplished debut epitomised by tracks like 'Smokescreen' and the aforementioned 'Dreams of Gold' as they set the tone for the EP - grabbing the listener by the throat and overwhelming them with thumping, driven drum beats, soaring guitar passages and heady distorted vocals.
The band’s debut EP, Smoke, will be released alongside two special hometown performances, with the EP’s successor already in the early stages of production.
Having recorded and produced, Smoke, independently, Scary People maintain a strict DIY ethic towards all of their creative outlets; including promoting their own shows, directing their own videos and printing their merchandise by hand. The band have since sold out a hometown headline show, supported The Cribs and filled the headline slot at the Inspire stage at this years Doune The Rabbit Hole festival.
Smoke is out on 23rd September 2013 via RedRoom Recordings.
