Rainbrother’s single ‘Fat Eggs’ out now!
"... sun-soaked, dream-folk..."
- Mahogany
"...endearing, touching and memorable...” - Drowned In Sound
"“...a real treat - pastoral, poetic, and idiosyncratic.” - Clash
Rainbrother's majestic, dream-folk single Fat Eggs is out now via General Bird Records and available to buy on iTunes and stream on Spotify now.
The video for Fat Eggs premiered on Mahogany and is also available to watch from Rainbrother's YouTube channel now.
The video consists of one long shot and was filmed on a subtropical afternoon in Copenhagen, thanks to global warming. After the session the band had to take a week's break from eating eggs and pickled cucumber.
Frontman Bjarke Bendtsen explains “Fat Eggs is a song about giving into late night temptations, lusts, desires and the beauty of being human. The song is also about not caring too much and eating fat eggs when they're on your plate and still hot”. The single, taken from Rainbrother’s debut album Tales From The Drought, feels instantly intriguing with its use of beautiful, spiralling out of key guitars and flawless harmonies.
The single is also available to stream now via the band's Soundcloud page.
Rainbrother was formed after Bjarke eventually found his way back to Copenhagen. While touring with The Migrant in Europe, he performed with a group of fellow Danish musicians and after moving back to his home turf, Rainbrother was born. Tales From The Drought was produced by Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart) whose flickering elements have been spun into the group’s tight rock sound making the album both an earthy and elevating affair.
Rainbrother has already received praise from numerous well-regarded publications including Clash Magazine, The 405, Americana UK, Folk Radio as well as BBC 6music’s Steve Lamacq to name but a few. They also recently played SXSW festival where Bjarke found himself in difficult situation as US immigration officials refused to approve his visa after deciding he needed a second interview. As a result, the band played their first gig in Austin with Bjarke still on his living room couch in Copenhagen. Not wanting to let Trump win, the band played the rest of their parts with a pre-recorded projection of Bjarke behind them not missing a single beat and creating a truly unforgettable performance.

The Duke Spirit unveil new single ‘Houses’!
"...steeped in an aura of reverb and
psychedelia..."
- Consequence of Sound
"Easily one of Britain's best experimental rock outfits."
- Gigwise
"...lush and spongey while also swaggering along with a muscular grace."
- Stereogum
Following last year’s acclaimed album KIN and November's EP Serenade, The Duke Spirit march on with poignant new album Sky Is Mine, released on 18th August 2017 via Ex Voto Records. The album is available to pre-order now.
The band have revealed the third track to be taken from the album is Houses, which premiered on Consequence Of Sound and is now available to stream on The Duke Spirit's Soundcloud page.
The band also recently revealed the video for previous single Magenta, which premiered on Clash and you can watch now via the band's YouTube channel.
Produced by the band themselves, and mixed by Bruno Ellingham (Massive Attack), the album also features guest vocals by long time friends Josh T Pearson (Lift to Experience) on the woozy ‘How Could, How Come’, and Duke Garwood on album closer ‘Broken Dream’.
On Sky Is Mine each song approaches, revises, steps back and looks for humanity on a planetary scale. From the shimmering melodies and prodigious power of tracks like 'Magenta' and ‘See Power’ to the energy-fuelled psychedelic rock of ‘Houses’ and ‘Yoyo’, the album flows with a dark, beguiling grandeur with the majestic allure of Liela Moss’ crystal vocals. Sky Is Mine looks at harm, control and lack of love but burns through it to find the essential human heart.
Talking about the album, front-woman Liela Moss explains: "Sonically, it's the most tender record we have made, the expansiveness will lift hearts but the rawness will burn through greedy fingers. Lyrically, this is where I stand... With feet cold and wet from standing in the sludge of fear that is the world we tread upon, this album snapshots a palpitating heart that values above all things, life. Half-finished sentences describe nasty bits and pieces, shards of cruelty as they are dissolved by being pissed on from a great height with a stream of golden, glowing benevolence!"
Continuing to prove themselves as one of the UK’s most enduring and distinctive rock acts, The Duke Spirit are known for their captivating live shows and will continue to hypnotise listeners with the sweeping power of Sky Is Mine.

Best Girl Athlete shares new track ‘In Your Head’!
"…groove-riddled folk-pop...”
- The Line Of Best Fit
"... assured artistry..."
- Clash
"...a stunning piece of cinematic drama..."
- The Revue
"... pretty amazing..."
- Folk Radio
Following the successful release of debut, Carve Every Word in 2015, Katie Buchan - aka Best Girl Athlete - returns with her brand new album, the self-titled Best Girl Athlete, out on 2nd October 2017 via Fitlike Records.
Taken from the album, new track 'In Your Head' premiered on The Revue and is available to stream and download from Best Girl Athlete's Soundcloud page now.
Having written the album prior to reaching the age of eighteen alongside her musician father, Charley, Katie continues to establish herself as a mature singer-songwriter with a creative vision that, not only surpasses expectations but, confirms the young musician as a prominent and original talent, justifying her host of admirers including Richard Hawley and Simone Felice.
A collection of songs each telling a story that connects with the individual, Best Girl Athlete combines an eclectic range of influences bridging pop with elements of folk, electronic and Americana, while Katie draws on themes of melancholia, abandonment and fear laced with a message of resilience and hope for the future. Best Girl Athlete’s diverse sound is encapsulated on tracks ranging from the Mark Ronson-esque horns of In Your Head and the dark, swaying Americana of Vetiver on ‘Sometimes’ to the fusion of soulful melodies, and Katie’s assured vocal, juxtaposed with the fast-paced rap of Jack Hughes on ‘Baby Come Home’. Up-tempo, electronic soundscapes ooze on the anti-establishment themed ‘In The Morning’ while 'Lucy' soars with uplifting strings, offering a brand of cinematic pop reminiscent of Lana Del Rey.
Best Girl Athlete has been born out of the non-conventional manner in which many people now consume music; collecting individual offerings, rather than whole albums. Consequently, each song stands alone as a single offering with lyrically intriguing, musically accomplished depth appealing to audiences from across the board.
By the age of sixteen, Katie Buchan had already toured the U.S and Europe and released an album that was nominated for a Scottish Alternative Music Award. Carve Every Word was named the second best Scottish album of 2015 by Ravechild and received acclaim from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Folk Radio, Artrocker, The Sunday Herald and BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Roddy Hart. Now, with a self-titled sophomore album on the horizon, Katie’s innovative sound is sure to propel her even further forward into the minds of the music loving public.
Best Girl Athlete, the eponymous new self-titled album, is due for release on 2nd October 2017 via Fitlike Records.

- The List
Having already received critical acclaim as part of Edinburgh-based dream pop band Collar Up, musician Stephen McLaren has now gone solo, and is set to release his new album We Used To Go Raving on 29th September 2017 via Errant Media.
Stephen has now unveiled his second single, I Sing To You, which premiered on The Skinny and is available to stream on his Soundcloud page now.
