Law Holt releases new single ‘Holy’!

"Playful pop with sinister undertones..."
- DIY
"...explosive..." - The Line of Best Fit
“...magnificent.” - The Skinny
Fresh from the release of debut album City, a UK tour with Mykki Blanco and love from Spin, DIY, Huck, The Skinny, The Line of Best Fit, Drowned in Sound, Notion and many more, Law Holt bookends the year with her mini album Gone, out via Soulpunk on 2nd December 2016.
Holy is the latest single to be released from Gone. The track premiered on Northern Transmissions and can be streamed via Law Holt's Soundcloud page.
Gone is the second part of the mini saga that began with City. Gone focusses on the biggest, most important subject, love, from the most personal viewpoint.
It’s Autumn going on Winter in the big city.
A young woman is starting her life, away from the constrictions of her family in a small town. Her new life feels like it starts because of a man. In a compact time period she develops a legend around their relationship. They’re going to get married. She pours everything into what they have, even though she knows it will never last, even though she knows he will move on... sooner rather than later. He doesn’t want her to photograph him, he seems frightened by her passion and her thirst.
He is dispassionate. But that’s okay, this is her story, not his - she’s got enough passion for two and more.
Law Holt, in a deep melancholy of browns and greys, channels that one room city living self exploration that happens when we are surrounded by millions of people we will never know. A sweeter Berlin tale. A caustic Sade in Lou Reed leathers.
Her voice is as individual as Macy Gray’s, as potent as an RnB diva who has absorbed the crystalline tones of Broadcast’s Trish Keenan then turned left and then left again into waters unchartered.
The UK seldom produces true soul voices. Law Holt stands outside the battle between X-Factor hollerers and cutesy-wootsy mandolin banging part-timers, with her back turned, looking towards the sunset over the rooftops, articulating that.
Mini album Gone is out on 2nd December 2016 via Soulpunk.
Vienna Ditto release EP ‘Busted Flush’!

"...yet another utterly unique creation from the duo. A captivating sonic delight."
- Gigslutz
Vienna Ditto return with their latest collection of sci-fi infused pop music with the release of their new EP Busted Flush, out now via Ubiquity Project Recordings and is available to buy via Vienna Ditto's Bandcamp page.
The title track and lead single Busted Flush premiered on Gigslutz and is also available to stream on Vienna Ditto's Soundcloud page.
The EP kicks off with Busted Flush complete with its tango-like introduction, which creates an intense flare and evokes feelings of the bohemian, jukebox style music heard in Moulin Rouge. Hatty Taylor’s smokey, broody vocals carry the track throughout while Nigel Firth excels on a variety of instruments, and even playing violin between his legs! The single is influenced by Phil Spector’s love of melodrama and takes the listener on a cinematic journey; a theme that carries on throughout the entirety of the EP. The next track ‘Barracuda’ is an upbeat track about Nigel living in his boat, a barracuda bungalow, the song sonically taking a number of twists and turns as eccentric electronica takes centre stage. ‘Boy Meets Wolf’ closes the EP, bringing the duo back to their blues roots. It tells the story of a boy meeting a wolf caught in a trap, the themes influenced by Cormac McCarthy’s book ‘The Crossing’.
The pop-noir duo consists of Hatty Taylor (vocal and synth) and Nigel Firth (guitar) who first met in 2000 when Nigel taught a then eleven-year-old Hatty to play guitar. Ten years later, they formed a band in Oxford and have been creating exceptional, boundary-pushing music ever since. Nigel is the engine behind Vienna Ditto’s restless experimentation and sonic evolution, while Hatty is responsible for the band’s effortless and enchanting lead vocals, the two half combining
beautifully to complete a whole.
Vienna Ditto have already received praise from the likes of Q Magazine, Artrocker, BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson amongst others and they have played at a number of festivals including Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing Stage. Since the release of their critically acclaimed EP Ticks earlier this year, the unlikely, delectable and ever-so-slightly dysfunctional duo have gone from strength to strength and, on Busted Flush, the pair hope to continue to push boundaries and defy genres along the way, generating a sound that is truly unique.
Busted Flush is out now via Ubiquity Project Recordings and is available to buy now on Vienna Ditto's Bandcamp page.
Stars and Rabbit’s single ‘Man Upon The Hill’ out now!

“...a truly spectacular piece of forward-thinking folk." - The Line Of Best Fit
Indonesian folk-pop duo Stars and Rabbit have released their brand new single Man Upon The Hill, out now via Green Island Music. The single is taken from the band's debut album Constellation, which is available to buy on iTunes now.
Man Upon The Hill premiered on The Line Of Best Fit and is available to stream via the Stars and Rabbit Soundcloud page.
The release of Man Upon The Hill quickly follows on from download track 'The House’, which is available to stream and download on their Soundcloud page. You can also watch the mesmerizing video for the track via the band's YouTube channel.
Man Upon The Hill is a whimsical folk tale about a man on top of a hill who is accepting reality, letting go of his past and moving on. Lead singer Elda Suryani’s incredibly unique vocal carries the song effortlessly and conjures memories of gifted female vocalists such as Björk, Lamb and CoCoRosie. Combining her enchanting vocals with guitarist Adi Widodo’s stunning musical arrangement, Man Upon The Hill is a wonderfully quirky track, filled with dream-like qualities that fans of Emiliana Torrini and First Aid Kit will identify with.
The duo formed in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 2011 when Elda enlisted the skills of Adi to help her with her songwriting. As their songwriting thrived and compositions began to take shape, the pair decided to come up with a band name, settling on Stars and Rabbit, and the rest, as they say, is history. Since the release of previous singles Worth It and The House, the band have continued to create a name for themselves in their home country, where they have a huge reputation, gaining support from the likes of Indonesia’s Rolling Stone Magazine and The Beat Magazine amongst many others.
Man Upon The Hill by Stars and Rabbit is out now via Green Island Music. Their debut album Constellation is available to buy on iTunes now.

Introducing… Rainbrother!

“...endearing, touching and memorable...”
- Drowned in Sound
After the success of psychedelic folk outfit The Migrant, frontman Bjarke Bendtsen is ready to transcend furthermore into electronic folk-rock territory with the release of his latest project Rainbrother’s debut album Tales From The Drought, out on 3rd February 2017 via General Bird.
As an introduction to the album, you can listen to the track 'Riverside' via FatCat Records' Soundcloud page now.
Tales From The Drought is all about making your way whilst on the road, dwelling on memories both beautiful and troublesome and coming to terms with the decisions that have been made. Album opener ‘Riverside’ is a stunning piece of songwriting that carries you away into the abyss and as the album continues, so do your thoughts. Each one a little more comforting than the next. Tales From The Drought invites the listener into a speckled dream, filled with steady beats, wistful Pink Floyd inspired guitar slides and a storytelling charm akin to the likes of Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.
Rainbrother was formed after Bjarke eventually found his way back to Copenhagen. While touring with The Migrant in Europe, he performed with a group of fellow Danish musicians and after moving back to his home turf, Rainbrother was born. The album was produced by Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart) whose flickering elements have been spun into the group’s tight rock sound making Tales From The Drought both an earthy and elevating affair.
Bjarke has already received praise from numerous well-regarded publications including Rolling Stone, Americana UK, Drowned In Sound and Pop Matters to name but a few. He has also been praised by the likes of BBC 6music’s Lauren Laverne and has supported acts such as Kurt Vile, Villagers and Sharon Van Etton. Rainbrother will also be performing at the upcoming SXSW festival in 2017.
Tales From The Drought by Rainbrother is out on 3rd February 2017 via General Bird.
