”…beautiful...” - Folk Radio

Mairearad Green has shared a fantastic new single, Star of Hope, featuring the legendary King Creosote on vocals. The song is taken from her upcoming album Summer Isles, out on February 26th 2016 via Buie Records.

The track premiered on Folk Radio and is available to stream now on the ABoF Soundcloud page.

Star of Hope is about a trading boat, of the same name, that came into her hometown of Achiltibuie from the Orkney Islands. After writing the song, Mairearead felt the lyrics were more suited to a male vocal and had a musician in mind for the part. She explained to Folk Radio, "a friend of mine who has worked with King Creosote before put us in touch and I was so chuffed that he liked the song and was up for singing it on this album. His voice is really perfect for ‘Star of Hope’ and it has really made the song. Since this collaboration, I have now played pipes on his forthcoming album”.

The single is taken from Mairearad’s beautiful new solo album Summer Isles, which is all about her life growing up in the Scottish Highlands. The Summer Isles and the folk tradition are deeply rooted in Mairearad’s composition and as a result, she has created an exquisite collection of acoustic, folk and cinematic vignettes that evoke an overwhelming listening experience.

Mairearad (piano, accordion, bag pipes, vocals) is joined by a number of guest musicians including legendary singer/songwriter King Creosote, Hector McInnes (vocals), Ross Saunders (bass), Scott MacKay (drums), Jo Nicolson (clarinet), Pat McGarvey (banjo), Mike Vass (fiddle), and Annie Grace, Jeana Leslie and Hamish Napier (backing vocals). Combining each musicians’ stylistic background, producer Iain Hutchinson has created a refined and inventive sound that faultlessly captures Mairearad’s vision.

She regularly performs alongside multi-instrumentalist Anna Massie and has previously toured with Eddi Reader and Karine Polwart to name a few. Mairearad has also been dominating the folk festival world; performing at Celtic Connections Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Hebridean Celtic Music Festival, and Tonder Folk Festival.
