”…beguiling…” - The Skinny

Mairearad Green has released a stunning new video for latest track Star of Hope, featuring the legendary King Creosote on vocals. The song is taken from her upcoming album Summer Isles, out on February 26th 2016 via Buie Records.

The video premiered on The Skinny and you can also watch it now via Mairearad Green’s YouTube channel.

Star of Hope is about a trading boat, of the same name, that came into her hometown of Achiltibuie from the Orkney Islands. After writing the song, Mairearead felt the lyrics were more suited to a male vocal. She explained to The Skinny, "His voice is so perfect for the song," says Green. "Since recording it, I've also played pipes on his forthcoming album, so the collaboration continues." King Creosote aka Kenny Anderson also joked saying "I feel as though I answered a personal ad that read: 'Virtuoso bagpiper/accordionist from the Summer Isles seeks middle-aged alt. folk singer to collaborate on an original song that he might well wish he could poach for his own album.'"

The audio stream premiered on Folk Radio and you can listen now on the ABoF Soundcloud page.

Star Of Hope is taken from Mairearad’s beautiful new solo album Summer Isles, which is all about her life growing up in the Scottish Highlands. The Summer Isles and the folk tradition are deeply rooted in Mairearad’s composition and as a result, she has created an exquisite collection of acoustic, folk and cinematic vignettes that evoke an overwhelming listening experience.

Mairearad (piano, accordion, bag pipes, vocals) is joined by a number of guest musicians including legendary singer/songwriter King Creosote, Hector McInnes (vocals), Ross Saunders (bass), Scott MacKay (drums), Jo Nicolson (clarinet), Pat McGarvey (banjo), Mike Vass (fiddle), and Annie Grace, Jeana Leslie and Hamish Napier (backing vocals). Combining each musicians’ stylistic background, producer Iain Hutchinson has created a refined and inventive sound that faultlessly captures Mairearad’s vision.
