Introducing… Broken Boy!

For fans of: Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Death Cab For Cutie

Broken Boy are delighted to announce their forthcoming single Just To Leave You, released on 27th April 2015 via Canvas Records.

The band have released their previous single She Said as a free download track to give new fans a taste of their stripped back, New York garage rock sound. You can stream and download the track for free via the ABoF SoundCloud page.

You can also watch the video that accompanies the track via Broken Boy's YouTube channel.

Blending the best elements of bands such as Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes, Broken Boy have produced a single that explodes into life before breaking down into a minimalist yet catchy verse showcasing Cam Black’s distinctive vocals and low rumbling bass, while brother Stewart Black provides a punchy attack on lead guitar. The single’s lyrical content tackles issues of growing up and taking control of your destiny while escaping the mundanity of everyday life. It’s a positive and powerful track that is sure to excite fans both old and new.

Broken Boy began in 2013 when brothers Stewart and Cam began to write together after flirting with several separate musical projects. Initially, the ambition was to expand their sound into an Arcade Fire style six piece band, but they decided their sound was more suited to a stripped back three-piece indie vibe, and in 2015 the brothers joined forces with drummer Fraser Laing who was the final piece of the jigsaw.

With the band fresh out the studio with Chem 19’s Paul Savage (Twilight Sad, Teenage Fanclub) and having recently played shows with Catfish and The Bottlemen and Circa Waves, 2015 looks set to be a breakthrough year for the talented trio.

Just To Leave You by Broken Boy is out on 27th April 2015 via Canvas Records.

The Actions release video for ‘Counting All Days’!

For fans of: Goldfrapp, Portishead, Tricky

The Actions have revealed the dark and atmospheric video for EP track 'Counting All Days'.

The video was premiered by Clash Magazine's website, who described it as "an imposing introduction, all velvet noir and barbed production." You can now watch it via the band's YouTube channel.

You can also stream the track via The Action's SoundCloud page.

Watch the video for previous single and EP track Echo via the band's YouTube channel.

Indefensible is a collection of dark and atmospheric vignettes, with stylised guitar, vocals and percussion creating an ethereal world full of dystopian and existential imagery in which the listener can easily get lost. Silty’s voice transmits a dark sensuality that could bears comparison to Alison Goldfrapp or Portishead’s Beth Gibbons, except with a darker, harder edge. Nowhere is this more evident than EP title track, Indefensible, which blends punchy, distorted guitar with dream like vocals that could easily soundtrack a Lynchian dive bar.

They are currently pushing their boundaries of their sound to the limit, whilst working within the confines of what can be classified as a ‘song’.

The EP follows hot on the heels of single, The Echo, that was released in December 2014
and picked up support from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and Amazing Radio.

Indefensible is released via Niteo Records on 5th April 2015.

The single is a testament to Benjamin’s skill as a songwriter and producer, and is an exciting introduction to his debut EP, due for release this Spring.

Benjamin has spent time in a number of different bands, spanning genres as diverse as jazz, indie and metal - elements of which can still be heard in his music. He was briefly taught by soulful songstress Laura Mvula and at the age of 17 was performing as a professional musician, drumming for Tru-Thoughts singer Lizzy Parks. He’s also supported acts such as Bonobo and Norman Jay, and played live on BBC 6 Music for Craig Charles.

Jay Baruchel to star in Idlewild video for single ‘Every Little Means Trust’!

Canadian actor Jay Baruchel (How To Train Your Dragon, This Is The End, Robocop) will star in Idlewild’s forthcoming video for single Every Little Means Trust, out 27th April 2015 via Empty Words.

After discovering Jay was a long time fan, the band decided to invite him to Scotland to film the video, their first in over eight years.

"Idlewild have been the soundtrack of my life since I first heard them in Bristol when I was 19," Jay says. "I was lucky enough to be near the radio when ‘You Held The World In Your Arms’ came on and it was epic and anthemic and that was it. It was like hearing a favourite band that I’d somehow never heard before. At turns, violent and melancholy and crystalline and triumphant. I very quickly fell down the rabbit hole of melody, intention, and poetry that is Idlewild’s art. To say that I’m excited would be an understatement. I am proud and honoured and kind of still floored that I get to be a part of their work in any way whatsoever."

The band are excited to have Jay involved, with front man Roddy Woomble commenting: "We were delighted to find out that Jay was such a big fan of the group. It is always nice to know that your work is appreciated. The fact that he’s also been so generous with his time by agreeing to come to Scotland and appear in the video was wonderful. He is a very talented and interesting actor."

The video will be shot in the Highlands by director Oscar Sansom of Glasgow based production company Forest of Black. Oscar has previously directed videos for Fatherson and LaFontaines with Forest of Black’s impressive showreel including videos for Biffy Clyro, Sons And Daughters, Belle & Sebastian, Holy Mountain and Ladytron.

Jay currently stars in hit FXX series Man Seeking Woman, which has just been confirmed for a second season. He is also about to start shooting Goon 2, the sequel to Goon, written by Baruchel himself and Evan Goldberg, with Baruchel taking on directorial duties this time around.

Every Little Means Trust is the third single taken from Idlewild’s critically acclaimed album, Everything Ever Written, which has been championed in the press by the likes of The Independent, The Times, Guardian, Drowned in Sound, Q, Kerrang!, The Skinny and many others.

The single was woven together with the idea that hope sits side by side with disappointment, as visited in classic Idlewild singles such as American English and Love Steals Us From Loneliness.

You can stream singles Collect Yourself and Come On Ghost now via the Idlewild Soundcloud page

Idlewild are also very pleased to announce they will be appearing alongside Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls for Teenage Cancer Trust at The Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 29th March. You can book tickets via the Teenage Cancer Trust official site.

Everything Ever Written is out now via Empty Words and available to buy from all good record stores and online retailers, including iTunes and Amazon.

To keep up to date with the latest Idlewild news follow the band on Facebook, Twitter or visit their official website.

Every Little Means Trust is due for release on 27th April 2015 via Empty Words.

Introducing… Lewis Fieldhouse!

For fans of: Lucy Rose, Ben Howard, Mystery Jets, Sufjan Stevens

Lewis Fieldhouse is pleased to announce Not Done Loving You, his first single release in over two years, available for download on the 13th of April 2015.

A heartfelt vignette that cuts to the very core of Lewis as a songwriter, backed up by hooks that dig in and won't let go, Not Done Loving You is just the song to welcome in the springtime.

You can stream the single via the ABoF SoundCloud page.

Not Done Loving You was written when Lewis lived in Liverpool and he explains, ‘I used to busk a lot on Liverpool’s Church Street and a couple of months after I broke up with my ex, she walked past whilst I was playing. Now, the break up was fine, it didn’t hurt at all until that moment. I don’t think she even saw me, but I wanted the ground to swallow me up. So I wrote a song about that feeling. I wrote the guitar part and then the rest just kinda fell out.’

Originally from the North of England, Lewis’ roots are firmly in the USA's south west. Lewis believes in the tradition of songwriters such as Paul Simon and Brian Wilson, bringing his own lyrical eye for the absurd and sincere. In Liverpool, Lewis was part of the burgeoning grass roots indie scene and counts Dan Croll, Mikhael Paskalev and All We Are as friends. He also makes up one of the four in alt rock outfit The Old Silent, who toured with Morcheeba on their last full UK tour.

To celebrate the single’s release Lewis will be playing several acoustic shows. There will also be two free entry full band shows on the 13th of April at Oporto Bar, Leeds and 14th of April at The Finsbury in Finsbury Park. Other tour dates to be announced.

Not Done Loving You is released 13th of April 2015 via Theodore Washington Recordings.
