Video: Mano’s Daughter - ‘What’s A Girl Supposed To Do’

For fans of: MS MR, Foxes, Lorde

"Mano's Daughter do 10-tonne synth pop impeccably..."
- The 405

Mano’s Daughter have released the visually compelling video for EP track 'What's A Girl Supposed to Do' taken from their forthcoming EP Shiver out 11th August 2014. The video premiered on Gigwise, but you can watch it now via the band's official YouTube Channel.

The free track is available to stream and download now from Mano's Daughter's official Soundcloud page.

With their latest EP, Shiver Mano’s Daughter present five perfectly formed, intelligent synth pop tracks that move in a darker direction from their debut effort. ‘What’s A Girl Supposed To Do’ unravels slowly crescendoing into a massive, flourishing chorus that demonstrates front woman Sarah Carter’s powerful, soulful vocals. The song is about a girl trying to be the right person but stuck in the wrong relationship, based on a tragic love story. ‘Wheels’ is a cross between Foxes and Lorde, however, ‘Little Heart’ and ‘This House’ are completely stripped-down, lounge like and seductive - exhibiting the band’s different facets. Musically, the band are taking us on their own personal journey as they stretch their own boundaries, especially with closing track ‘You’. It’s an 8-minute epic that mirrors the shimmering melancholy of MS MR. Each song on the EP is Mano’s Daughter’s take on love and relationships but the tragic side of love that teaches us lessons and shows us who we need to be.

Consisting of Sarah Carter (Vocals), Matthias Garrick (Synths, programming) and Dan See (Drums), the London based band are one of the most hardworking on the scene and with influences ranging from Bon Iver to Moloko, Mano’s Daughter put their songs at the heart of their identity, spinning epic lyrical stories that paint a picture of what it’s like to be at the heart and soul of the band as they sonically wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Shiver is released 11th August 2014 via Smart & Shiver Records.

The Cadbury Sisters release EP ‘Close’!

For fans of: Fleet Foxes, Daughter, Laura Marling

"...beautiful folk music..."
- Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1

"…beautiful harmonies and gorgeous vocals."
- Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music

The Cadbury Sisters have released their debut EP Close via Fear Of Fiction. It's available to buy on iTunes.

The sisters' recent video for EP track 'Fire' premiered exclusively on The 405 but you can now view it via their YouTube channel.

The video for single 'Milk' premiered on Gigwise in May and is also available to watch on YouTube now.

The 'Rowntree Cadbury Milk remix' received its UK debut on XFM, and was created especially for the single's release by Blur drummer Dave Rowntree. This is Dave's first remix outside of his work with Blur, and his reason for choosing The Cadbury Sisters was simple: '...with my name being Rowntree and theirs being Cadbury, I thought wouldn’t it be nice if we could merge the chocolate empires somehow?'. You can listen to it via The Cadbury Sisters' SoundCloud.

Like all the interesting things in life, The Cadbury Sisters come with a secret - their great great grandfather was William Cadbury, the man behind the world famous chocolate company.  Jessica (vocals and percussion), Mary (vocals and electric guitar) and Lucy Cadbury (vocals and acoustic guitar) are his direct descendants and yes, they are all sisters.  Their goal is simple; to take the spirit of traditional English Folk music, infuse its DNA with contemporary influences such as Fleet Foxes, Daughter and First Aid Kit before disseminating it into the world.  If Cecil Sharp House were run by Saga Noren this is how its corridors would sound.

The Cadbury Sisters live in a half forgotten dream, inhabiting places we remember, yet sometimes feel uneasy about returning to.  Their music is a meld of harmony, discord and mindfulness, their songs the sonic equivalent of watching Swallows And Amazons or The Railway Children inter-spliced with The Wicker Man or Lord Of The Flies.

The girls have already picked up support from the likes of Q Magazine and NME and the EP received a dual launch at The Islington, London and The Louisiana, Bristol. They’ve also picked up radio play from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson, and XFM’s John Kennedy.

See below for a full list of UK Shows:

IndianRedLopez/CS Buchan release split single ‘Any Given City/Leave It All Behind’

“... in-your-face earworms, the kind that will dig trenches and cement themselves into your brain.” - The Line of Best Fit

“... a force to be reckoned with.” -
Q Magazine

IndianRedLopez and CS Buchan have today released their fantastic 7-inch split single Any Given City / Leave It All Behind available to buy on BandCamp via Fit Like Records.

Check out Any Given City, the first video from the split single, on IndianRedLopez's YouTube Channel.

.

Head over to SoundCloud to stream both tracks now.

You can watch the video for Leave It All Behind on CS Buchan's YouTube Channel.

.

The collaboration is the first vinyl release on Fit Like Records, which was founded by CS Buchan himself, and features an impressive list of contributors such as IndianRedLopez, The Little Kicks, Kitchen Cynics and Best Girl Athlete - Buchan’s daughter Katie whose ethereal vocals feature on both tracks.

Any Given City is the first track taken from the recent IndianRedLopez album release Commit (now available to order in Europe). The song perfectly encapsulates the sentiment of a superbly crafted album and sums up why it has received praised in the press for the craft of the band’s ambitious songwriting. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Mew, Any Given City’s sprawling sounds offer a warmth and beauty only heightened by the interchange of harmonies between Mike Chang and the alluring vocals of Best Girl Athlete.

Leave It All Behind sees CS Buchan continue his exploration of Scottish indie folk that has led to comparisons being made with contemporaries such as Kris Drever, John McCusker, and Roddy Woomble. A dream-like, rhythmic guitar piece is brought to life by the aforementioned vocals of Katie Buchan (Best Girl Athlete) who’s voice has a warmth and maturity that belies her tender years of just 15 years old.

Both tracks are a testament to a burgeoning and talented music scene in the north-east of Scotland and a fitting launch for a record label that surely will be one to watch out for in the future.

The 7” vinyl of Any Given City/Leave It All Behind are released via Fit Like Records. You can buy it via BandCamp.

Introducing… Fjørds!

For fans of: Editors, The Cure, Swans

Fjørds return with new single Sulwyn on 14th July, 2014 via Crookedman Records. The single’s name is pronounced sill-win, and is a traditional Welsh christian name that means 'bright as the sun'.

You can stream the single on the band's SoundCloud page or via the embed below.

Drawing on influences that range from Japan, Gary Numan, Joy Division and Simple Minds, Sulwyn marks a shift towards a more thoughtful late seventies, early eighties sound. Singer and guitarist Sonny Dagur penned the lyrics whilst in Brooklyn, and describes the song as a letter to himself. The song captures the essence of 80s New Wave electronica, with minimalist bass and drums providing a counterpoint to the fluid and full bodied guitars and synth. All of this comes to a head in Sulwyn’s chorus, when the band work together to create a surge of timeless musical euphoria. The track was recorded at Monnow Valley and is Fjørd’s fourth independent release. The striking artwork that accompanies the release is by emerging digital artist Rognvald Leslie, from The Faroe Islands.

Formed in 2010, the band came together following a Steve Lamacq interview on BBC 6 Music. At the time, Sonny’s previous band, Don’t Tread On Spiders, were breaking up, so Sonny seized the moment and used the Lamacq radio interview to advertise for band members. It wasn’t long until Alex Mann (bass & vocals), Gareth Bodman (synths & keyboards), Scott Bradburn (guitar) and Hannah Mathias (drums & drum pads) answered the call and formed with Sonny to create the band you hear now.

Fjørds will be experimenting with new technologies to distribute this single, hosting a series of live Google Hangout chats as well as using QR Code and NFC tags on their posters to allow their fans in Cardiff to download their single for free. So keep your eyes open, and your smart phones at the ready.

Sulwyn is released 14th July via Crookedman Records.
