Chapterhouse Changes The Game With $1.99 Monthly Issues And Trades For Under Ten Bucks!

Toronto-based comics publisher Chapterhouse Publishing has announced a new pricing structure for its Chapterverse range of superhero titles, with every monthly comic priced at $1.99 US, and all trade paperback collections priced at $9.99 US!

The new $1.99 price point applies to all Chapterverse titles in 2018, including Captain Canuck, Fantomah, Freelance, and The Pitiful Human Lizard.

Check out the first ten pages of Freelance season 2 , issue one HERE.

Watch Chapterhouse CCO Jay Baruchel talk about why fans should check out the Canadian publisher.

“All comic fans are faced with a choice every Wednesday on how best to spend their hard-earned money,” says Chapterhouse publisher Keith WTS Morris. “We want to make giving our Chapterverse books a try an easy choice to make. Chapterhouse is determined not to let price point be a barrier into our world of comics.”

Chapterhouse founder and CEO Fadi Hakim says that the new price really makes sense for the fans. “We've become big enough to receive a sizeable savings from our printer, and in turn, we're passing on that savings to our retailers and readers. You can now get our entire universe for between four to six dollars a month!”

Chapterhouse is creating an accessible superhero universe with heroes for every kind of reader, from the classic adventure of Captain Canuck to the horror of Fantomah, and from the humour of Pitiful Human-Lizard to the globetrotting action of Freelance. A low price point is key to Chapterhouse’s commitment to accessibility.

“We are beyond psyched to be providing a whole new generation of comics fans top quality storytelling at literally half the price of our competitors,” says Chapterhouse Chief Creative Officer Jay Baruchel. “Our goal is to entertain you with the best possible stories populated by the richest characters. Life is expensive. Comics shouldn't be.”

The $1.99 initiative kicks off in January 2018 with the second seasons of two of Chapterhouse’s most acclaimed titles; Freelance, starring gay superhero Lance Valiant, and Fantomah, featuring a revival of the Golden Age horror icon. The $1.99 price also applies to the new 2018 seasons of Captain Canuck, Pitiful Human-Lizard, Fallen Suns, Northguard, and two new titles to be announced next year.

The $9.99 trade paperback price will apply to the entire Chapterverse line, including Captain Canuck: Aleph, Captain Canuck: Gauntlet, Captain Canuck: Harbinger, The Pitiful Human-Lizard: Far From Legendary, The Pitiful Human-Lizard: Still Pretty Pathetic, Freelance: Angel of the Abyss, and Fantomah: Up From The Deep.

Chapterhouse offers a publishing model unlike anyone else in comics. All Chapterverse titles run in four-issue seasons, and each season stands on its own, with no crossovers or stunts. Each $9.99 trade paperback collection will be released and distributed through Diamond Books before the next season begins, so it’s always easy for readers to catch up without breaking the bank. Chapterhouse wants to take the headaches and the high cost out of being a superhero fan!

Freelance Season 2 #1, from creators Andrew Wheeler, Juan Samu, and Vaneda Vireak, is available from Diamond with the order code NOV171472. Fantomah Season 2 #1, from creators Ray Fawkes and Soo Lee, is available from Diamond with the order code NOV171474.

Rivera shares new video for ‘We’re Alive’!

"...a truly intriguing listen."

- Mahogany

"...a simple yet profound message..." - Clash

For fans of... Grizzly Bear, Elbow, The Antlers, Bombay Bicycle Club

Rivera is the new musical project from songwriter and musician Inti Rowland. Born in Chile and raised in London, the music of Rivera has been built between two cities. His songs are soaked in the sunshine of Santiago and coloured by the chaos of London. Following the release of his captivating debut single We’re Alive, he has now shared a brand new video to accompany the track.

The video premiered on Mahogany and is available to watch now on Rivera's YouTube channel.

The single is also available to stream on Rivera's Soundcloud page now.

The single tackles the delicate subject of a car crash on a reckless night. Inti explains “When your confidence runs away from you and you think you’re invincible. The song is about surviving what you bring upon yourself.” As the single builds, Rowland’s rich, warm vocal mesmerises instantly, fluctuating from a stunning falsetto to a deep, baritone akin to Elbow's Guy Garvey. Musically, We’re Alive combines soaring guitars with subtle electronics and driving percussion to create something dark and full of intrigue.

Working with a group of musical collaborators and long standing friends, including Sam Rowe (drums, backing vocals) and Jackson Dimiglio-Wood (producer), throughout 2016, Rivera was born. With the tail end of the year spent in South America, Inti travelled across the Atacama Desert from the north of Chile into Bolivia, the landscapes became the artwork and visuals of Rivera.

As a solo artist, Inti Rowland has received praise from a number of publications including Clash and Gold Flake Paint as well as plays on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6Music to name but a few. Now, under a new moniker, Rivera is ready to hypnotise further listeners with the release of his debut single.

The Magic Lantern reveals video for ‘Holding Hands’!

For fans of... Grizzly Bear, Chet Baker, Jeff Buckley

“...a truly optimistic, triumphant

listen.”

- Mahogany

“...gorgeous...” - M Magazine

“Excellent, intriguing and compelling,

a man to watch.”

- The Guardian

The Magic Lantern, the musical moniker of Jamie Doe, is set to release his latest single Holding Hands on 30th October 2017 via Hectic Eclectic Records

The video premiered on Mahogany and is now available to stream on The Magic Lantern's YouTube channel.

The audio for Holding Hands premiered on M Magazine and is now available to stream on The Magic Lantern's Soundcloud page.

The single opens with a defiant cry of hope, the lyrics “I’m searching…”, ringing out alone before two saxophones enter, freely weaving around the vocal, at once harmonising and echoing it. This texture builds as a third saxophone joins creating a rich brass warmth through which Doe’s voice glides, effortlessly leaping between the declamatory and the intimate. The  band enter with an infectious groove, and we are introduced to the songs’ key metaphor of a flood and the need for creative destruction - “One day, when all this is washed away, some will remain, full of hope in the pouring rain”. The track resolves with the triumph of hope over doubt.

Holding Hands was written during a moment of desperation, Jamie having travelled half way across the world only to run out of road.  Strung out and alone, he found himself writing this song for the true love he hoped to meet, as much an act of faith in their existence as a beacon to guide himself home.  Originally written for voice and guitar, it was after hearing Bjork’s ‘Anchor Song’ late one night that Jamie decided to arrange the song for saxophone trio. The timbre of the brass, the groove of the band, The Bad Plus style piano solo – it is an arrangement that brings together some of Jamie’s key influences which he describes as “the lyrical directness of folk, the harmonic openness and improvisational freedom of jazz and the craft of great songwriting. It’s a good example of how much more confident I have become as an arranger”.

Born in Australia, before moving to the UK at 12, Jamie began performing as The Magic Lantern while studying philosophy in Bristol where he met and performed alongside friends This Is The Kit, Rozi Plain and Rachael Dadd. Moving to London in 2007, Jamie expanded The Magic Lantern into a quintet of friends and together they evolved a transporting sound, inspired by the immediacy of Jamie’s lyrics and lilting melodies and a shared love of improvised music. A debut album with the quintet was released in 2011 before Jamie returned to his solo roots with an intimate second album in 2014. The Magic Lantern has received praise from numerous publications including The Guardian, Acoustic Magazine and Folk Radio UK as well as BBC 6Music’s Lauren Laverne, Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe and Bob Harris among others. His third album, To The Islands from which Holding Hands is taken, sees The Magic Lantern return with a new ensemble drawn from London’s thriving jazz scene, exploring memory and hope in a world of near constant uncertainty.

With Holding Hands, The Magic Lantern is ready to introduce further listeners to his bittersweet, beautiful sound.

Holding Hands is out on 30th October 2017 via Hectic Eclectic Records

Belle Mt. shares new single ‘Let Me’!

For fans of... Bon Iver, Local Natives, Ray LaMontagne

"...cinematic alt-pop..."
- Mahogany

"... an uplifting dose of raw emotion..."
- Gigslutz

Following their enigmatic debut single Hollow, Belle Mt. (pronounced 'Belle Mont’) are now back with another emotion-strewn release. Let Me is out now via LV Music and available to stream on Spotify and iTunes.

The single premiered on Gigslutz and is now available to listen to via Belle Mt.'s Soundcloud page.

You can also watch Belle Mt. performing his previous single Hollow live for a Mahogany Session on YouTube now.

Written about that breaking point in a relationship when all emotional truths are laid bare, Let Me is an uplifting slice of alt-pop. Filled with the impassioned, soaring vocals of lead singer Matt Belmont, it exudes a cinematic, evocative power and infectious musicality. Of the track, Belle Mt. explain: “... despite the emotional weight of the topic, with Femke's uplifting production of Let Me we've attempted to envelop some deeply personal lyrics in an energetic and almost anthemic sound, but if you dig a little deeper you’ll still find the melancholy beneath.”

The concept of Belle Mt. was created during a period of Belmont’s withdrawal from public performances. During this time, he dedicated his time to introspective songwriting development, creating the basis of a sound which would eventually find its way into the hands of Nashville-based, Grammy Award winning producer Femke Weidema. The musical connection between the pair has resulted in a unique writing and production style, evident in the layered ambience and depth of this latest release.

Now, having received acclaim from the likes of Mahogany and When The Horn Blows, and packed out a Nashville industry showcase at The Basement, as well as playing a Sofar Sounds set at London’s Amnesty International HQ this summer, Belle Mt. are ready to pull at the heartstrings with the impassioned grace of Let Me.

Let Me is out now via LV Music and available to stream on Spotify and iTunes.
