The Birthday Suit’s ‘A Bigger World’ out now!

The Birthday Suit's latest single A Bigger World is out now! The single features Scott Hutchinson from Frightened Rabbit and is a rousing three minutes of swelling vocals, strings and catchy riffs. With this latest offering, The Birthday Suit are stepping forward with their heads held high as Rod Jones transcends his Idlewild roots, proving himself to be one of Scotland's finest songwriting talents.

Rod from The Birthday Suit recently featured as a guest on Steve Lamacq's Roundtable. The single also made the XFM evening playlist, has been championed by BBC Radio Scotland's Vic Galloway and Amazing Radio's Jim Gellatly and Gill Mills.

Fans will receive a free download of the single free by pre-ordering the band's third album A Hollow Hole Of Riches via Pledge.

The Birthday Suit's video for 'A Bigger World' is available to watch on YouTube now!

Recently, a strange online campaign to boycott Idlewild members' side projects was launched in the hope that Idlewild would return to record new material. You can read more about this on NME.com. Rod responded with an open letter to fans, which can be read on The Birthday Suit's Facebook page.

However, this hasn't stopped the band who are currently on a UK tour to help promote the single. Tour dates can be found on the band's official website.

A Bigger World is the first single from the band's third album A Hollow Hole Of Riches, which will be released on 3rd March 2014. With their first two albums, Rod was finding his feet after Idlewild announced their indefinite hiatus but this is a more cohesive sound. The Birthday Suit are very much in keeping with Scotland’s finest musical exports, writing tunes that are exciting and diverse, songs brewed with heart and passion, which tell stories, hearts on sleeves for all to see.

A Bigger World sets the scene for the album's overall theme of isolation, as each one of us exists within our own small world, but that's not to say the lyrics are bleak - far from it. It's a celebration of diversity, and the constantly shifting nature of perspective.

A Bigger World is out now and available to download free with all pre-orders of the album, for more information, visit The Birthday Suit's official website.

Atom Eye ‘3 ¾’ stream!

"... a masterful display of evocative music and true experimentation..."
- The Music Fix

Following the release of the cinematic EP Trilogy120, Atom Eye aka Elsie Martins returns with an ambitious full length album The Otolith Sessions due for release on 18th November 2013 via Forwind. The album is the culmination of a year's worth of sound experiments captured on various machines of a bygone era. The materials underlying each composition were formed from experiments with magnetic tape manipulation - deconstructing, layering, looping, suspending, pitch-warbling... carefully tended arrangements that unravel gently, to glorious, dramatic effect.

Album track '3 ¾' is available to stream now via the Forwind Soundcloud page.

The Otolith Sessions will be offered as a limited edition CD accompanied with an exquisitely presented book featuring beautiful images and texts eluding to the recording materials, machinery and processes. This indispensable companion piece to the recording also encompasses an audio cookbook with recipes for you to create your own magnetic tape experiments.

A trailer for The Otolith Sessions is available to watch now via Atom Eye's YouTube channel.

Elsie Martins is a musician who takes raw elements of atonal field recordings and morphs them into compositions and rhythms – both dark and light, intense and subtle, whole and transient. Atom Eye takes you on a journey: it's the soundtrack to your dreams... or your nightmares.

A slow rumble sneaks across the dreamy haze of a winter's moor... like an aural spectre; never quite visible, but definitely there. The haze burns off as a crisp sun rises through the hills scorching a path through the landscape as though its energy were focused through a magnifying glass. Atom Eye is the glass that pierces through you, darkly.

Drawing influences from film soundtracks, experimental music and sound art, The Otolith Sessions was mixed & co-produced by James Aparicio (Liars, Spiritualized) and features guest appearances from regular collaborators; award-winning percussionist Pete Lockett (Björk, David Holmes, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Lee Scratch Perry, Primal Scream) and Mute Artist, Composer and Producer Simon Fisher Turner whose work includes soundtracks for Derek Jarman's Caravaggio,The Last of England,The Garden and David Lynch-produced Nadja.

The Otolith Sessions will be released on the Forwind imprint on the 18th November 2013.

Introducing.. This Silent Forest

"… slow-burn epics that push This Silent Forest ahead of the crowd."

- The Herald

For fans of... Frightened Rabbit, The Twilight Sad, Meursault, Idlewild

Scottish four piece, This Silent Forest are pleased to announce the release of single, Root To The Seed, taken from their debut album Indivision. The single is available as a free download via Never Make Friends Records

Consisting of Graeme Macdonald (Vox, Rhythm Guitar), Jamie Sturt (Lead Guitar, Vox) Ewan Macdonald (Drums) and JJ McGowan (Bass, Vox), This Silent Forest have managed to create a rich tapestry of sound, producing moments of beauty, tempered by a more visceral edge, adding depth to an already impressive sound that, according to The Herald... push This Silent Forest ahead of the crowd”.

Download Root To The Seed below or from the the ABoF Soundcloud page.

Root To The Seed is a sombre track that delves into the relationship between father and son. Singer Jamie Sturt's lyrics enable him to take on the persona of a father passing on advice to his offspring, as well as looking back on the relationship with his own Dad. Sturt’s reverb soaked vocals, ably supported by raw, haunting guitars, generate an emotionally charged piece of music and is a strong offering from a band who are beginning to establish themselves in an already burgeoning Scottish music scene. Root To The Seed is a flawless demonstration of what This Silent Forest are capable of and, in the process, exhibit the traits of a band willing to explore evocative subject matters that create a complementary interplay between music and lyrics - whilst clutching at the heart strings of the listener.

While Indivision is the band's debut album, it follows the successful release of three singles and two EP’s over a 3 year period that gained comparisons to Idlewild (one of the band's major influences), Frightened Rabbit and early era U2. They've also supported the likes of Dry The River, Frightened Rabbit and The Birthday Suit as well as featuring at festivals such as Belladrum. Root To The Seed begins a busy end to the year with the band due to release another single and video from their majestic debut album.

Root To The Seed is available to download now via Never Make Friends Records.
