Introducing… Rue Royale

Anglo-American duo Rue Royale are pleased to announce the release of their first single Set Out To Discover out on on 24th June 2013 via Sinnbus. The single is taken from their forthcoming album Remedies Ahead, which will be released later this year.
Set Out To Discover is available as a stream via the Sinnbus Soundcloud page.
Unlike their first two LPs, Rue Royale (2008) and Guide To An Escape (2011), Rue Royale have taken a divergent approach to Set Out To Discover writing most of their forthcoming work on the road. Birthing the songs in large, voluptuous spaces while on tour Set Out To Discover views Rue Royale in widescreen, with their trademark kick drum providing a supporting heart beat it goes someway to create their boldest and far-reaching work to date. Similar in contrast to The Beta Band, Gomez and Jose Gonzalez, the pair give the impression of being plucked out of a Wes Anderson film with deliberate, methodical accentuation. Forged from addictive bitter-sweet harmonies, delicate guitar plucks and a patchwork quilt of percussion Set Out To Discover marks a huge step-up for the pair.
Working with co-producer Paul Pilot (Duke Special, Beth Rowley, Athlete) the pair raised funds through Kickstarter with fans pledging with Rue Royale ultimately exceeding their target they decamped to Bat Box studios in Lewes where along with a tailless squirrel they recorded their latest work.
Named after a road running through the Chicago Suburbs, Rue Royale developed from Ruth and Brookln’s transatlantic relationship. With Ruth being brought up on brit-pop and northern soul and Brookln on American folk and southern gospel the pair cite influences as Mark Kozelek, Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Wilco and Air creating a contrasting array of threads in which Rue Royale can form their distinct tapestry.
With their previous releases receiving numerous BBC 6Music and XFM plays as well as a huge interest in blogs worldwide the pair have showcased their unique brand of indie folk taking in festivals, house shows, club gigs and industry showcases across Europe and the US. With their third release looming Set Out To Discover samples Rue Royals latest work as a momentous statement of intent.
Set Out To Discover is out on June 24th via Sinnbus - the duo’s forthcoming album Remedies Ahead will be released in Autumn.
Quickbeam release exclusive video & free download of ‘Grace’!

Quickbeam today release the free download and exclusive video of album track 'Grace'. Part funded by Creative Scotland, the self-titled album is due for release on 3rd June through Scottish label Comets & Cartwheels.
'Grace' exhibits the elements that have made Quickbeam ones to watch in 2013 - gorgeous harmonies are accentuated by soothing cello and piano as the track stravaigs toward a climatic outro laden with driven drum beats and distorted guitar.
You can download 'Grace' from the embed below or from the band's Soundcloud page.

Formed in Glasgow in 2010 by Monika Gromek (Vocals/Harmonium) and Andrew Thomson (Guitar/Vocals/Piano), the band have since evolved into a four-piece with the addition of Liam Chapman (Drums) and Ruth Campbell (Cello), finally releasing their first single Seven Hundred Birds to widespread critical acclaim last year.
The resulting collection of songs captured on the album further reveal Quickbeam's growing maturity as songwriters and highlights the chemistry between the members - orchestrally arranged strings, brass, and rich harmonium pitted against thunderously distorted guitar passages and pounding rhythms. As a result, Quickbeam showcase their undoubted skills by producing an album filled with melancholic beauty which captivates the listener to stunning effect.
Quickbeam's unerring ability to captivate the listener with a multitude of musical styles is a feat the likes of which Sigur Ros and Low would be proud of and is the reason the band have gained fans in the form of Frightened Rabbit and Deepak Chopra as well as picking up support from sites such as This Is Fake DIY.
Quickbeam will be celebrating the launch of their debut album at a very special event in the disused Victorian swimming pool of Govanhill Baths on 31st May 2013. Having secured funding from PRS For Music Foundation in order to stage a special series of events, this show will see Quickbeam collaborate with local artist Annie Crabtree (Picture Window) and Becca Thomas (Pidgin Perfect) to produce a very special event experience that encompasses environmental artistry, projection, theatrics, and of course Quickbeam's own brand of majestic and cinematic music. The night will also include a full band performance from label-mates Fake Major, and Comets and Cartwheels official partners Brewdog will be providing the bar.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from the Tickets Scotland website.
Quickbeam will release their self-titled album via Comets & Cartwheels on 3rd June.
Algernon Doll releases free download and video for ‘Anti-them’

- Artrocker Magazine
Ewan Grant, AKA Algernon Doll, is pleased to announce the release of free download track 'Anti-them' taken from second album Citalo-pop, due for release on 10th June 2013 via Common Records.
'Anti-them' sees Algernon Doll continue to explore his alternative rock roots, a departure from last year's Elliott Smith inspired debut, as Grant's pained vocals and grungy guitar sound comes to the fore.
You can watch the exclusive video for 'Anti-them' in the embed below or from Algernon Doll's YouTube page.
You can download 'Anti-them' below or from the ABoF Soundcloud page.
Last years debut mirrored Ewan's difficulty in dealing with the toils of extreme anxiety disorder and bipolar, however Citalo-pop, immediately offers a freshness in comparison with the inclusion of fuzzy grunge-esque guitars, distorted, layered vocals and Algernon Doll's trademark off-kilter alt-folk sound exhibited in his releases to date.
Inspired by the likes of Red House Painters on Old Ramon, Mark Lanegan, Elliott Smith and Dinosaur Jr, Algernon Doll continues to display a maturity beyond his years by executing such a rich texture to his songwriting - something many of his contemporaries would aspire to achieve.
Free download's 'Anti-them' and 'Cassini', mark an immediate change in direction - a freer feeling from the more introspective debut produced last year. Up tempo, distorted guitars soar throughout, with driven incessant drumming and time changes galore, all brought together by Grant's emotionally charged vocals. Even the dreamier 'Home- schooled', which has a far more ominous feeling, illustrates the direction Algernon Doll has taken as the track builds slowly into a visceral, heavy outro spearheaded by Grant's expressive guitar playing and intense vocals.
Citalo-pop is a vehicle for Grant to expel his dark outlook on life while allowing him to tap into his punk and hardcore background, creating a schizophrenic sound that keeps the listener on their toes throughout the 13 tracks found on the album.
Grant has assembled a full band for live shows to replicate the bigger sound produced on the album, adding another dimension to his sound. To support the release of Citalo-pop Algernon Doll will be playing at the following venues in Scotland:
- 06 June - GoNorth (Inverness) - Blackfriars
- 11 June - Dundee - Non Zeros
- 12 June - Edinburgh - Pivo
- 13 June - Glasgow -13th Note Cafe
Citalo-pop is due for release on 10th June 2013 via Common Records.
UNMAP release ‘When To Lead And When To Follow’ and b-side remix!

UNMAP's fantastic debut single When To Lead And When To Follow is out now and their label, Sinnbus, have also released a remix of the track to accompany the single.
When To Lead And When To Follow is available to download now via the Sinnbus Soundcloud page.
The Heart Island remix can also be downloaded via the Sinnbus Soundcloud page.
When To Lead And When To Follow pulses with naïve yet sublime pride elegantly combining soul and electronica RnB and indie. Their sound, in places, has been described as an "updated version of chamber pop" with When To Lead And When To Follow feeling incredibly profound and somber. Defined by hypnotic medieval synths, haunting drum sections and the almost spoken word of Mariechen Danz the track becomes engrossing and effortlessly immersible.
Comprised of Mariechen Danz (vocals), Alex Stolze (violin, guitar, electronics), Matthias Geserick (bass) and Thomas Fietz (drums), Unmap have risen from the wintery depths waitinfg for the right moment to strike with their first musical offerings; When To Lead And When To Follow is not only their debut single but their first ever release full stop.
The band have created a real outstanding statement of intent with When To Lead And When To Follow. With talk of an album due out in Autumn 2013, this track is set to put this remarkably talented German four-piece safely on the map.

Alternative indie band, The Deep Red Sky, are pleased to announce the release of their debut album Plans.
Citing the influence of The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit in their development, the band have created a sound that has introspective characteristics allied with more accessible vocal melodies, the likes of which Arcade Fire, Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro would be proud of.
Recently released single Look On Your Face, encapsulates the band's subtle, yet imposing sound, and brings their luscious vocals to the fore. A trailer of the forthcoming video can be viewed below or on the bands Youtube page.
Look On Your Face is available to stream from the embed below and can be purchased on the band's Bandcamp page.
The Scottish 5-piece, consisting of Jamie Craighead (lead vocals, guitar); Jesse Stoddard (keyboard, backing vocals); Jos Collins (guitar, glockenspiel, backing vocals); Scott Cousins (bass) and John Alexander (drums), originally formed as a three piece when Jamie, Scott and John met at Napier University in Edinburgh. With the introduction of Jos and Jesse, the bands sound subsequently progressed as they developed the stunning harmonies and layered, atmospheric epic moments that can found on the album.
Alongside Look On Your Face, album tracks such as 'Getting Easier', 'Plans' and 'You Had it All' are real highlights and truly showcase The Deep Red Sky's writing skills - as well as their ability to create both challenging and eminently listenable tunes.
Plans is the perfect climax to an exciting year for The Deep Red Sky. Beginning with the release of the free download track 'Zombies', following up with single Look On Your Face and completing their first UK tour.
