Introducing… Gene Serene!

For fans of: Opossum, Clinic, Clor

Gene Serene is delighted to announce her debut album, The Polaris Experience, released 6th July 2015 via Duchess Box Records.

To experience Gene Serene's intense electro pop sound for yourself, you can stream and download album track and single Singularity for free via the ABoF SoundCloud page.

You can watch the cosmic video that accompanies the track via Gene Serene's YouTube channel.

Inspired by the Mars One project, where members of the public have been given the chance to sign up for a one way ticket to the red planet, The Polaris Experience tells the age old story of boy meets girl, of true connections and love as the technological singularity takes place and the world becomes increasingly toxic to mankind. As war ensues, the star crossed lovers are offered an escape route that will take them off the Earth. Placed in suspended animation and heading away from their celestial home, songs such as ‘Hold Me’ and ‘Upload’ explore the emotions and connections experienced in a technologically superior and interstellar future, existing outside of space and time.

A concept album in the classic sense of the word, Gene Serene enlisted the help of producer and sound engineer Bob Earland (Radiophonic Workshop, Clor) who co-wrote and co-produced the album, providing Gene with a sample library and the tools to create something brilliant. With a sound that owes as much to prog staples Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa and Cardiacs as it does stylistically to Goldfrapp and St Vincent, The Polaris Experience is a stellar addition to the oeuvre of intelligent, vocally driven electronica.

The album was written to be experienced in cinemas and theatres, as well as traditional venues and found spaces, so watch this space for a full list of UK tour dates.

The Polaris Experience is distributed via Duchess Box Records on 6th July 2015.

Sofia’s single ‘Ice Cold Love’ out now!

For fans of: Tegan & Sara, Kathleen Adams, Sara Watkins

Sofia has released her latest single, Ice Cold Love via Let’s Play Records. It's available to buy digitally via iTunes.

The video for Ice Cold Love premiered on Gigslutz who described the single as "a charming, catchy offering that will lodge itself in your ears for days after listening." You can watch the video now via Sofia's YouTube channel.

You can also stream the single via the ABoF SoundCloud page.

Stream and download the 'Untamable (Kandylion Remix)' which premiered on Gay Times for free via Sofia's SoundCloud page.

Subscribing to the notion that songwriters are story tellers, Ice Cold Love spins a personal tale charting a caustic relationship, but from a place of empowerment. Sofia, as narrator, has walked away from a cold hearted coupling so that she can continue to grow and find the love that she deserves. Her flair for narrative, ear for catchy hooks and distinctive voice could well see her compared to the likes of Kathleen Adams and Tegan & Sara.

Sofia is half Venezuelan and half Lebanese, giving her a wealth of influences to draw from. Both countries are considered third world, dealing with issues of violence, political turmoil and corruption. As a result she feels a sense of duty and social responsibility and considers herself an advocate for social change and World peace.

For the rest of 2015 Sofia is putting the finishing touches to her debut album In The City and spending the summer preparing a tour of Mediterranean Europe.

Ice Cold Love is released via Let’s Play Records and is available to buy digitally on iTunes.

Piney Gir releases video for ‘Gold Rules’!

For fans of: Flaming Lips, Stereolab, The Breeders, Grandaddy

"A retro delight…" - The Guardian

"…open-hearted pop that has you clutching your knees with glee" - Drowned In Sound

Piney Gir is delighted to announce the release of her latest video for album track ‘Gold Rules’, taken from her sixth album mR hYDE’S wILD rIDE released 29th June 2015 via Damaged Goods.

The video premiered on Gigwise and you can watch it now via Damaged Goods' YouTube channel.

You can also stream single Keep It Together via the ABoF SoundCloud page.

Recorded at Andy Ramsay’s (Stereolab) studio, ‘Gold Rules’ is a finely-honed, heavenly tune even as the song celebrates unreachable riches and glibly states the fact, “you can’t take it with you anyway.” Replete with a host of honeyed analog and reverb drenched hooks, and a riff buzzing bass line with grungy guitars leading the way, Piney is able to wear her Riot Grrl influences on her sleeve.

The inspiration for the video, directed, shot and edited by Jeremy 'Foxy' Fowler and Keyleen Nguyen, is taken from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band. Piney holds her band hostage in her house, feeding them space cakes and making them her puppets, with sets and props designed by esteemed artist Garo Nahoulakian. However, the musicians don’t seem to mind, as they’re still able to rock out! It’s a fascinating glimpse inside Piney’s head.

You can catch Piney Gir live at the following dates as she embarks on a UK tour:

16th May - Alternative Escape - Brighton
4th June - The Cellar - Oxford
8th June - Bicycle Shop - Norwich
12th June - The Cellars - Portsmouth
17th June - Green Door Store - Brighton
18th June - The Bassment - Chelmsford
19th June - 60 Million Postcards - Bournemouth
20th June - Four Bars - Cardiff

mR hYDE’S wILD rIDE is released 29th June 2015 via Damaged Goods.
