The Frisbys release stunning new track ‘Waves’!

"...heartwarming and sweetly soulful..." - Gigwise
"...glorious harmonies and sweet, emotive sound..." - For Folk's Sake
The Frisbys have just released their latest track Waves; the third song from new EP The Cause, out January 29th 2016 via Dantobaccus Records.
Following up from double A-side single Born and Raised/Give Into The Dark, Waves premiered on Going Solo and you can also listen to it now on the ABoF Soundcloud page.
Waves is a gorgeous piano ballad, with twins Helen and Nicola Frisby demonstrating their beautiful signature harmonies throughout. The song depicts the crushing weight of feeling like a burden on others and no matter how thankful you feel, it can sometimes make things worse. In the end, all you can do is try.
Helen and Nicola have been singing and playing music together since they were old enough to speak. Having performed as a duo for many years honing their incredible vocal harmonies, it took a boredom call from a broken-legged Marc Robinson (piano, guitar) to convince them to start a full band. The three were joined by Sam Keer (acoustic/electric/slide guitar), and later, Will Cattermole (bass) and Tom Finigan (drums). They have been producing haunting and emotive music ever since.
Having received past support from Ruth Barnes, Gary Crowley and Kathryn Tickell on Amazing Radio, Mark Forrest on BBC Radio, Team Rock Radio,Gigwise,
Folk Radio and For Folk’s Sake, the band already boast an impressive collection of fans. Born and Raised has also recently been featured as Track of The Day on Sarah Gorrell’s Drive Time Show on BBC Sussex.
Waves is taken from the forthcoming EP The Cause, which will be released on January 29th 2016 via Dantobaccus Records.

Miss Kenichi releases new video for The Night

"...a graceful, gloom-pop triumph." - The Skinny
"...absolutely wonderful, absolutely love her."
- Lauren Laverne, BBC 6Music
After the release of her album The Trail last year, Miss Kenichi aka Katrin Hahner has returns with a video for track The Night out now via Sinnbus.
The video premiered on Spex but you can also watch it now on the Sinnbus YouTube channel.
The track, which features on The Trail, builds exquisitely as each instrument is delicately introduced. Over the base of a finger-picked guitar, Katrin’s ethereal vocal's, beautifully complement the patter of the snare. Finally, a wonderful lead line played on the flute by artist Satch Hoyt is introduced, adding an earthy quality, allowing it to connect the other fragile parts together..
Katrin says: “The song is my mantra, a ritual to call on the magic and power of poetry and song. Do not stop singing and call on the light, even if things get dark. Fight them off with your voice. Your light, your trust and faith in the magic of life, this universe and space is the most powerful tool”.
The video was filmed by acclaimed photographer Antje Taiga Jandrig. It features American actor Alexander Thomas and tindersticks drummer Earl Harvin who co-produced The Trail with Katrin. Despite having very strong visual metaphors Katrin is keen that the imagery of the video is not ascribed meaning, instead allowing the viewer to take their own interpretation and make their own connection to the art.
The Night is taken from the album The Trail out now via Sinnbus/Rough Trade and is available to buy digitally on iTunes and on vinyl and CD from BandCamp.
Fable releases new video for her single ‘I Am You’

"...bold and brilliant..."- The Line of Best Fit
“Brooding cinematic Electronica…” - Guardian
"...a dark, twisted slice of electronica with raw, haunted, female vocals..." - Gigwise
Fable has released her latest video for single I Am You, due for release on January 15th 2016 via 74 Music.
The video premiered on Gigwise but you can also watch it now via Fable's YouTube page.
The track is also available to stream now on Soundcloud.
I Am You captures the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you realise that you are ‘the other’, an outsider looking in at the cultural machine that has been built around all of us. However, the cruel irony is that in spite of existing outside the bubble of mass manufactured media, your very existence is still an expression of it - a contradiction of alienation and connection. The video follows a similar vein in it's industrial yet haunting imagery, Fable's powerful delivery of her vocals married with intense but bizarre scenes.
Co-written and produced by Paul Steel (The Xcerts, Mika, Saint Raymond) and mixed by Lee Groves (Goldfrapp, Gwen Stefani, Kimbra), I Am You is the first single from Fable’s debut album, Sacrilege, due for release in early 2016, following on from her critically acclaimed debut EP Parasite.
Originally from Devon and now based in Brighton, 20 year old Fable is a fierce new talent - forthright, opinionated, intelligent and far removed from the generic shiny pop songstresses that dominate the current music scene. In addition to Hartnoll also written alongside Bloc Party’s Russell Lissack and supported Archive at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire earlier in the year.
I Am You is released via 74 Music on January 15th 2016.
Mairearad Green releases single featuring King Creosote!

”…beautiful...” - Folk Radio
Mairearad Green has shared a fantastic new single, Star of Hope, featuring the legendary King Creosote on vocals. The song is taken from her upcoming album Summer Isles, out on February 26th 2016 via Buie Records.
The track premiered on Folk Radio and is available to stream now on the ABoF Soundcloud page.
Star of Hope is about a trading boat, of the same name, that came into her hometown of Achiltibuie from the Orkney Islands. After writing the song, Mairearead felt the lyrics were more suited to a male vocal and had a musician in mind for the part. She explained to Folk Radio, "a friend of mine who has worked with King Creosote before put us in touch and I was so chuffed that he liked the song and was up for singing it on this album. His voice is really perfect for ‘Star of Hope’ and it has really made the song. Since this collaboration, I have now played pipes on his forthcoming album”.
The single is taken from Mairearad’s beautiful new solo album Summer Isles, which is all about her life growing up in the Scottish Highlands. The Summer Isles and the folk tradition are deeply rooted in Mairearad’s composition and as a result, she has created an exquisite collection of acoustic, folk and cinematic vignettes that evoke an overwhelming listening experience.
Mairearad (piano, accordion, bag pipes, vocals) is joined by a number of guest musicians including legendary singer/songwriter King Creosote, Hector McInnes (vocals), Ross Saunders (bass), Scott MacKay (drums), Jo Nicolson (clarinet), Pat McGarvey (banjo), Mike Vass (fiddle), and Annie Grace, Jeana Leslie and Hamish Napier (backing vocals). Combining each musicians’ stylistic background, producer Iain Hutchinson has created a refined and inventive sound that faultlessly captures Mairearad’s vision.
She regularly performs alongside multi-instrumentalist Anna Massie and has previously toured with Eddi Reader and Karine Polwart to name a few. Mairearad has also been dominating the folk festival world; performing at Celtic Connections Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Hebridean Celtic Music Festival, and Tonder Folk Festival.
