Blair Jollands announces latest album ‘Half Life’!
"...big soul stuff..." - Uncut
Blair Jollands returns with third album, Half Life, due for release 20th April 2015 via Glowb Records.
The video for album track 'Stars Will Descend' premiered on Gigwise, and you can watch it now on Blair's YouTube channel.
Half Life is inspired by Blair’s travels across the world, drawing upon his various cultural inspirations. The album takes you on an epic journey, with opener ‘Carve It Up’ offering the audience a bright and fresh introduction to Blair’s sound, with strong hooks and warmth exuding the essence of Summer. Slower songs such as title track ‘Half Life’ and ‘Shelter’ allow Blair’s vocals, which bear comparison to Muse’s Matt Bellamy, to take centre stage, further enhanced by the strong harmonies provided by his backing vocalists. Journeying through Half Life, Blair takes us on a road packed with highs and lows - an invigorating emotional workout.
Blair previously collaborated with Boy George and The Strokes producer Gordon Raphael to release two critically acclaimed albums, Hotel and Violent Love, under his alter ego El Hula. They were described as “epic and elegant” and “big soul stuff” by Uncut and “Classy” by Tim Jonze at NME.
Blair is also an accomplished composer for film, producing several sound tracks that have collected Emmy nominations and accolades, including Pride, Wild Bill, Bleak House, A Touch of Cloth and the award winning Shackleton. Having been compared to artists such as Nick Cave, Scott Walker, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and Rufus Wainwright, Blair has found his own true voice with this new album which has been some time in the making.
