Introducing… The Unkindness of Ravens

The Unkindness of Ravens are Nina Wagner (vox) and Ben Raine (bass & vox). The pair entwine garage rock riffs with raw dance beats to create dark, electronically inspired guitar tunes. Nina and Ben make music with an incredibly punk / DIY ethos, creating everything themselves from their label – Sonic Fire Records – to the music itself.

In no time at all, the pair have gained a good reputation for themselves being compared to bands such as The Kills, The YYYs and The White Stripes. Artrocker likened them to “a bonfire blowing in the wind” whilst Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music picked-up their “huge” sound.

Despite their love of minimalism, their influences also range from stoner-rock legends Queens Of The Stone Age to dance-dirge masters The Prodigy thus proving they are a band always willing to broaden their own horizons beyond the electro genre, creating and harnessing something that is unique to them and them alone.

Their songs are inspired by dystopian soundscapes and images, longings, deep desires and wonder. Forthcoming single Dead Air is the first in a series of five singles that the pair are set to release every month from May (3rd) 2010. The band will also release a free track – “Lift” – to accompany Dead Air. The single melds the duo’s broodier leanings with Nina’s delicate, impassioned vocals to give Dead Air an almost Lynchian quality about it.

Dead Air is just the beginning for The Unkindness of Ravens. Their music will hypnotise and inspire you, creeping inside your very soul leaving you with a longing of your own… a longing for more.
