Introducing… The Beautiful Fear!

For fans of... Brian Eno, David Sylvian, Pink Floyd

Brooklyn based artist Matthew Bannister, aka The Beautiful Fear, is set to release his latest single Never Yesterday on 9th September 2016 via Addictaclique Records. The single is taken from The Beautiful Fear's latest album One, the first instalment of a two part project.

A new video for the single is coming but in the meantime you can stream Never Yesterday via The Beautiful Fear's Soundcloud page now.

Never Yesterday is an atmospheric track filled with beautiful piano melodies and heartfelt melancholic lyrics. Mixed by Metric and The Kills producer John O’Mahoney, it oozes a delicate, haunting beauty; Bannister describes the track as a “relationship collapse song” about falling out with a time, person and place. With shades of the emotive power akin to the likes of Radiohead and the dreamy poignancy of Pink Floyd, Never Yesterday flows with an emerging energy that subtly transforms into a powerful cinematic finale.

The Beautiful Fear was born out of Matthew Bannister’s desire to use music as a form of therapy and program, the artist name itself a term Bannister coined to convey the frightening yet beautiful changes required in life. In 2012 he began recording his recollections, dreams and musings together with Carl Negin. Having received acclaim from the likes of Morrissey co-writer Spencer Cobrin and Jools Holland’s musical director Phil Veacock, The Beautiful Fear have played a number of gigs across New York and now plan to release the second instalment of their concept album in 2017.

One, the debut album from The Beautiful Fear, is out now and available to stream on Spotify and download via iTunes.

The single Never Yesterday is out 9th September 2016 via Addictaclique Records.

Rebel Westerns release Atomic Blonde video!

"Fragrant, intoxicating, and wholly beguiling..."
- Clash Magazine

"...hook-laden, electronic lit melodies with a distinctive indie-pop flair..."
- EQ Music Blog

For fans of... MGMT, The 1975, Foals, Vampire Weekend

Indie-pop four piece Rebel Westerns have shared a new video for Atomic Blonde, out 9th September 2016 via Depot Records.

The video for Atomic Blonde premiered on EQ Music Blog and is available to watch now via Rebel Westerns' YouTube channel.

You can also stream Atomic Blonde, which premiered on Clash Magazine, via Rebel Westerns' Soundcloud Page.

On Atomic Blonde, the band explore themes of relationships, infidelity and the in built human desire that often propel us to make self destructive decisions. Showcasing their synth inspired indie pop, Rebel Westerns manage to strike the right balance between contemporary pop music and the kind of neon tinted 80’s new wave that would have Molly Ringwood shaking her hips. Encapsulating the very best traits of the band, Atomic Blonde opens with snapping drum beats playfully interacting with popping bass lines, lifted by soaring, melodic vocals and combined effortlessly with the uplifting sounds of synth dreamily washing over you.

Comprised of Dominic Thomson (vocals, guitar), Callum Munro (bass), Glen Gordon (keyboard) and Daniel Garvie (drums), the four school friends formed in 2014 after spending a number of years in various bands who were prevalent on the Scottish music scene. The decision to join forces was justified instantly with the band picking up support from the likes of Dermot O’leary’s BBC Radio 2 show, Amazing Radio, Jim Gellatly and The Scottish Sun as well as playing sold out shows at King Tut’s and Cabaret Voltaire.

To celebrate the release of Atomic Blonde Rebel Westerns will be playing La Bell Angele in Edinburgh on 23rd September and have plans to release an EP later in the year.

Atomic Blonde by Rebel Westerns is out 9th September 2016 via Depot Records.

Law Holt’s debut album ‘City’ out now!

"Playful pop with sinister undertones..."
- DIY

"...explosive..." - The Line of Best Fit

“Magnificent.” - The Skinny

For fans of... Young Fathers, ABRA, Xenia Rubinos

Law Holt's debut album City is out now via Soulpunk and is available to stream on Spotify and buy on iTunes.

City is Law's own unique, twisted take on pop and the album has received praise from the likes of DIY, Drowned in Sound and The Skinny with the exclusive album stream premiering on SPIN last week.

The video for album track 'Love Drive Through' also premiered on Gold Flake Paint and is available to watch now via Law's YouTube channel along with the previously released 'Spit'.

Law recorded her latest album City with producer Timothy London; of their working relationship she says "When I started working with Tim we hit it off... the way he worked fitted with what I wanted to do."

After the sessions for the album had finished, in the basement studio where City was recorded, producer Tim London found a folded A4 sheet of paper amongst some lyric notes.  Written in three types of coloured biro were these exact words:

“You don’t know a damn thing. It’s a witchy awareness, and if you could take a little swig from the bottle you might get the telepathy. But right now, you don’t deserve it, cos you think pop is fucking in a photo-booth in a shopping mall, you think it’s the reflection of the tip of your penis vibrating in the dark screen of your laptop. American. Packaging. Wanker.”

“It’s a mock wedding. I’m fucking fed up with it. Don’t judge me. Just because you lost your soul. My tears are real, wet salt. My feelings are raw.”

“OK, in the end I’ll probably forgive you, even if you refuse to dance. I’ll forgive you long enough to make another album from the whole story, which is all it is, from the fantasy, which is all you are.”

“In the end, I’ll use you like you used me, ‘boy’. Then you’ll be discarded like a limp condom on a Spanish beach. Then I will have won and you’ll just be an itch, a gnat bite on my memory. Then people will listen to these songs and they will know how a little, insignificant prick can inspire joy in a woman as he fades away. You. Are. Not. Even. A. Dot.”

When Tim asked her who it was addressed to, Lauren refused to answer and just said, “it’s private”.

Having been described as “the Death Grips of pop”, her sound is hard to define but has received critical acclaim from The Skinny, Guardian, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, DIY and many more. Law transcends genres, time and sound. Loneliness, darkness and romance are themes she regularly explores. She describes her music as “Law themed” and she’s spot on - you can look, but there’s no one quite like Law.

Law Holt’s album City is out now via Soulpunk and is available to stream on Spotify and buy on iTunes.

Introducing… The Empty Page

"...recalling Fugazi's righteous fury." - Clash

"...a powerful yet understated alt-rock sound." - Punktastic

For fans of... Veruca Salt, INHUMAN, My Vitriol, Pixies, Bikini Kill

Inspired by the raw, organic, yet raucous sound of 90’s era alt-rock bands, Manchester’s The Empty Page are ready to reshape the current landscape with the release of their spiky, caustic debut album, Unfolding, due for release on 21st October 2016 via Vociferous Records.

To celebrate the announcement of their debut album release, the band have unveiled single Big Wheel, which is available to buy on iTunes. The video for the track premiered on Clash and is available to stream via The Empty Page YouTube channel.

You can also stream Big Wheel, which premiered on Punktastic, via The Empty Page Soundcloud page.

Despite having formed as recently as 2015, the three-piece band have made an immediate mark on their local scene and beyond. The Empty Page have created their very own brand of pop/rock, straddling the line between grunge, post-punk and noise-pop, creating a sound that has an unerring ability to draw you in through it’s melodic choruses as well as it’s fuzzy, driven guitar lines. Having enlisted the skills of uber producer Garth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Biffy Clyro, L7, Melvins) to shape the sound of their debut record, The Empty Page are now preparing to unleash their sound to a wider audience.

Recorded and mixed in just one week, the essence of a pure, live band can be heard on the ten songs that make up the album, stepping away from the overly produced music that has become synonymous with the pro-tools era of modern rock music. From the grunge-inspired sound of Hole on ‘Cracks In The Surface’, to the riot grrrl stylings of Bikini Kill on future single Wardrobe Malfunction and the the hooky, indie-rock, head bopping melodies of My Vitriol and Llama Farmers on the aforementioned Big Wheel, The Empty Page invite you to join them on their sonic journey through the full alt-rock songbook.

Comprised of Kel (vocals, bass), Giz (guitar) and Jim (drums), the band first came together as friends jamming cover songs, before realising that they’d be much better served writing their own tunes. The results were immediate as, fast forward one year, and they now have a Gggarth Richardson produced album, support from the likes of Louder Than War, Punktastic and Clash as well as a full UK tour booked for October to coincide with the release of their debut album Unfolding.

Unfolding by The Empty Page is out on 21st October 2016 via Vociferous Records and is available to pre-order on Bandcamp.
