Scary People announce single ‘Black Eyes’!

"… a short and sweet slice of alt-rock goodness."
- Artrocker
"… this Dundonian five-piece could well end up as the next Therapy?.” - The Metro
Scary People have announced the release of their new single, Black Eyes, out 17th November 2014 via RedRoom Recordings.
Black Eyes is very much in keeping with the guitar and distortion heavy, gut-punching alternative rock sound Scary People have mastered and made their own since their humble beginnings as a band thrown together in less than a week to play a support slot in front of a sold out crowd.
The single premiered on AltSounds and you can listen to it now via the band's SoundCloud page.
For this outing they’ve enlisted producer Matt Lawrence to supply the skills he used working with the likes of Feeder, The Rolling Stones and Foals to take their sound to the next level. The counter-play between guitars, drums and lead vocalist Daniel Forouhar’s distinctive voice creates a tapestry of distortion that rises above the chaos of noise to reveal a technically brilliant, and deliciously dirty, slice of hard rock.
The release of Black Eyes ensures an exciting end to a very productive year. EP Chicago! created a buzz around Scary People that saw them pick up support form the likes of The Skinny, Artrocker, The Daily Record, The Metro and BBC Introducing leading to a number of festival appearances, most notably T in the Park and Wickerman.

Idlewild announce New Album and Tour for 2015!

After five years away, Scottish alternative rock band Idlewild return with new album Everything Ever Written, set for release on 9th February 2015.
Check out the teaser trailer for the album via Idlewild's YouTube channel.
The band’s eighth studio recording represents a new chapter, both personally and creatively. Produced by the band’s guitarist Rod Jones and mixed by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) whom they collaborated with on their 2002 release The Remote Part and augmented by new members Luciano Rossi (piano, organ & vocals) and Andrew Mitchell (bass, guitar & vocals), Everything Ever Written is Idlewild’s most eclectic output to date. The album features twelve tracks of alternative rock woven together from strands of Scottish folk, Americana & Hebridean psychedelia.
“The album was predominantly written on the Isle of Mull”, vocalist Roddy Woomble explains. "The record soundtracks a period of transition. Working without time constraints gave the whole thing a creative freedom. Idlewild is a new band to me now; I’m excited for the future.”
Lead track ‘Collect Yourself’ premiered on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show this evening and is available as an immediate download exclusively with album pre-orders.
In October 2014 the group completed a sold out acoustic tour of unique, intimate venues throughout the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, re-introducing themselves to live audiences after a half-decade break, performing re-worked versions of old songs as well as songs from the new album. The still, idyllic settings chosen for the performances hint towards the sense of space afforded in writing and recording the new album, which will be supported by a run of full live shows in spring 2015.
Exclusive pre-sale tickets (for the UK dates only) will be available to fans who pre-order Everything Ever Written before 7th November 2014. All European tour dates are listed below.
27th February - Luxor – Cologne

Dave McPherson album ‘Journal Of A Journey Buoy’ out now!

Dave McPherson's third album, Journal Of A Journey Buoy, is released today, 3rd November 2014, via Pledge Music.
To celebrate the album's launch, Dave is releasing 'Memories Become Enemies' as a free track. You can stream and download it via the ABoF SoundCloud page.
You can also stream and download 'Nothing Is Enough' from the ABoF SoundCloud page.
Following on from his previous two albums, The Hardship Diaries and Dreamoirs, Journal of a Journey Buoy continues his exploration of life through the eyes of a touring singer songwriter. Drawing parallels with his live show, the music is stripped down and is simply presented as one man, his voice and his guitar. There’s a brutal honesty to the lyrical content that Dave explores, unhindered by overcomplicated production, with Dave’s powerful vocal range and talented guitar playing able to shine through beautifully.
Dave McPherson began his solo career in 2007 when, one day, he strapped his guitar on his back, hopped on a train and couch surfed around the UK playing shows to anyone who’d listen. 900 solo shows, and a number of EP’s later, Dave released The Hardship Diaries via Pledge Music to a swell of support. While Dave’s solo project is completely removed from the alternative metal produced by InMe, the band in which he made his name, he feels that the medium in which he currently inhabits is the most accessible and important way for music fans to gather a true representation of what an artist is all about.
This year has seen Dave take to the stage at Download Festival, Sonisphere, 2000 Trees and Y-Not Festival, and over the course of his career he’s been privileged to support the likes of Charlie Simpson, Devin Townsend, Andy Cairns and Big Country (to name but a few). It goes without saying that a musician so enamoured with the intimacy of live performance will have more than a few future dates before the year is up.
Journal Of A Journey Buoy is released via Pledge Music and you can buy it digitally via iTunes.
Glyphs release ‘Out To Sea’ free track and video!

“Curious, exotic nuggets…” - Clash Magazine
"...an atmospheric journey for the listener to find themselves lost in."
Artrocker Magazine
Glyphs have released EP title track Out To Sea as a free download. The video for the track premiered on Clash Magazine's website and you can watch it now via the band's YouTube channel.
You can stream and download free track 'Out To Sea' via the ABoF SoundCloud page.
Out To Sea is the work of a band who have harnessed their considerable talent by melding together various genres into one, unique sound that encompasses tender, melodic pop vocals, hip-hop style beats and electro-synth all accompanied by comforting noises and samples that could have been lifted from a Spectrum 128k circa ’85. Opening track, and official single Out To Sea, displays the band’s playful side by evoking the spirit of 80’s synth-pop bands such as Erasure and The Pet Shop Boys creating an ear worm that’s hard to shake. While ‘The Machine’ could sit alongside many modern electronic artists like The Knife and Autechre as beats pop and samples soar, neatly bridged by a shoegaze style chorus. Closing track ‘Man Of Straw, Man Of Stone’ sways rhythmically with samples and beats washing gloriously over soft, distant, dream-like vocals reminiscent of Boards Of Canada.
Out To Sea is Glyphs’ fourth release following on from their Small Sounds EP and Glyphs EP both released in 2011 and the Locks & Keys EP, which was released in 2013. Combining a wide range of influences from Caribou and Bonobo to Four Tet and The Knife, Glyphs have created a sound that they can call their own.
The full EP premiered on Artrocker where you can stream it in full for free.
You can also stream and download EP tracks 'The Machine' and 'Shed Skin' for free on the ABoF SoundCloud page.
Out To Sea is released via Small Sounds. Download it digitally via iTunes.
Cara Mitchell announces ‘Afraid of The Dark’ EP!

“Beautiful lyrics and a wonderfully quirky voice…”
- For Folks Sake
The enchanting nineteen year old Cara Mitchell is back with her breath taking latest EP, Afraid of The Dark, out on 11th November 2014 via AGP.
Originally from Aberdeen in Scotland, Cara has been honing her skills for the past two years to create something even more flawless than her debut EP Have You Ever Wondered. Cara’s unique vocal tone is just the beginning of her talents, with her charming lyrics and beautifully arranged harmonies bringing each song together beautifully.
Cara’s vocals very much take centre stage on 'Suspended Motion', with her incredible ability to bend notes in an almost Blues like fashion. Stream and download the track for free via the ABoF SoundCloud page.
The five track EP opens with 'Dust to Dust', which immediately introduces the listener to Cara’s gorgeous tone. The track builds with the drums a driving force to a beat that you can’t help but tap your foot to. As you move through the EP, the tracks soften slightly with 'Suspended Motion', before ending with the gorgeous 'This Human', delicately allying Cara’s soft vocals and the strummed acoustic guitar, making you wish you were cuddled up close to someone by the fire.
In the last two years Cara has supported the likes of Emeli Sande, Rachel Sermanni, Simone Felice and Emily & The Woods. She has also performed a televised session for BBC Scotland as well as picking up support from the likes of Jim Gellatly, BBC Radio 1, The Scotsman and For Folks Sake. Her sharp rise in Scotland saw her gain a nomination for Best Acoustic Act at the 2013 and 2014 Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
Afraid of The Dark is due for release on 11th November 2014 via AGP.
