While only 22, Chromatone can already look back at a remarkable life. Son to a single-parent concert pianist mother who fled the Iron Curtain in Czechoslovakia, he found his early refuge in Jimi Hendrix & Beatles albums, which he would play secretly at night, teaching himself the guitar by ear.
However, his tastes would quickly change after making the move to London from Munich and immersing himself in the sounds of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye,
to name but a few Soul and Funk legends.
Fast forward a couple of years and Chromatone sold out top London venues such as the Jazz Café & Scala, sold over 4,000 copies of his debut EP Touchdown, earned over 1,500,000 hits on YouTube & attracted support from UK tastemakers such as SB.TV & Dropout UK, culminating in this latest single, Play For Me and a forthcoming album due for release in 2015.
The single features remixes by the legendary Herbaliser (Ninja Tune) and a further expansion into the Eastern world of British/Asian band Trickbaby.
Play For Me is released 11th August 2014 via CDC Music.

Later this year, the band plan on recording yet another album, this time with legendary producer Steve Albini.
Spilt Milk Perfume was the first single to be released from Omphalic and is available to download for free via the ABoF SoundCloud page and you can watch the video on Algernon Doll's YouTube channel. Fjørds release video for ‘Sulwyn’!

"...the track captures the very best of '80s New Wave electronica..."
- The 405
- The 405
Fjørds have released a captivating video for single Sulwyn. True to their influences, the band have eschewed the traditional 'watch the band play somewhere interesting' aesthetic and instead created a visual story of a young girl losing herself in a new and exciting world of underground dance, surrounded by the sound of the band's thumping single and a colourful cast of characters who glow under the lights of the dance floor.
The video premiered on The 405 and you can watch it now via the band's YouTube channel or via the embed below.
You can stream Sulwyn on the band's SoundCloud page or via the embed below.
Drawing on influences that range from Japan, Gary Numan, Joy Division and Simple Minds, Sulwyn marks a shift towards a more thoughtful late seventies, early eighties sound. Singer and guitarist Sonny Dagur penned the lyrics whilst in Brooklyn, and describes the song as a letter to himself. The song captures the essence of 80s New Wave electronica, with minimalist bass and drums providing a counterpoint to the fluid and full bodied guitars and synth. All of this comes to a head in Sulwyn’s chorus, when the band work together to create a surge of timeless musical euphoria. The track was recorded at Monnow Valley and is Fjørd’s fourth independent release. The striking artwork that accompanies the release is by emerging digital artist Rognvald Leslie, from The Faroe Islands.
Sulwyn is released via Crookedman Records and is available to buy on iTunes and to stream on Spotify.
Fat Goth release single ‘Sin Altar’!

"Sick Shit." - Rock Sound
"...distortion driven delights." - Kerrang!
They've abused the T Break stage at this year's T in the Park, their third album One Hundred Percent Suave has dominated the rock press like a kinky politician, and now Fat Goth have released single Sin Altar.
Sin Altar has already picked up support from the likes of Amazing Radio and was featured on Ally McCrae's BBC Introducing T in The Park Highlights show. You can stream and buy it now via Fat Goth's BandCamp page.

The Skinny recently filmed the Fat Goth boys at their rehearsal space in Dundee before they hit T in the Park. If you missed this special, intimate performance of single Sin Altar live, you can still catch it on The Skinny's YouTube channel.
Sin Altar is a nightmarish gut punch of a track, throwing dark shadows on unfamiliar roads in a part of town where stopping for directions is likely to leave you bundled in a bathtub, packed in ice and minus a kidney. If you've ever accidentally walked into a metal club wearing crocs and a pair of chinos, you'll be familiar with the track's overall tone. It doesn't want to rock you. It wants to use you, give you bus fare and never call you again.
If you've managed to miss Fat Goth during their recent spate of live shows, you can make it up for it by catching them at the Hothouse stage at the Belladrum Festival. Check below for full details:
You can stream and buy One Hundred Percent Suave on Fat Goth's Bandcamp or via the embed below.
'Class A' premiered on Rock Sound and is now available to download from the band's SoundCloud page. The video for the track was premiered exclusively by Kerrang!, and is available to watch on the band's YouTube channel.

Introducing… Turning Plates!

Turning Plates are delighted to announce their self-released debut album, The Shouting Cave, part funded by Creative Scotland, available on 22nd September 2014.
Download and stream album track 'Falling Lives' via the ABoF SoundCloud page.
You can watch the beautifully choreographed video that accompanies the track on the Turning Plates YouTube channel.
The Shouting Cave is a concept album that explores the effect of the Internet on Society. The band argue that the Internet is the purest reflection of humanity, a world built entirely of our own thoughts, emotions and desires - “a sea to float our dreams”, as described in the album track 'The Human Isle'. What do we see in that reflection? Have we stopped to think? The album explores these questions by portraying the Internet as a new wilderness into which we are born, telling individual stories within the overarching theme. Tracks such as ‘Falling Lives’ and ‘Wild Roots’ showcase the band’s cinematic style through delicate but powerful soundscapes, reminiscent of Sigur Ros and Four Tet, while ‘Havoc’ and ‘Animals’ lift the tempo, focusing on intertwining melodies and heartfelt vocal lines in the style of Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. The message of The Shouting Cave is laid bare in the final two tracks of the album; the gloriously dark track ‘The Human Isle’ describes a desolate world which then blossoms into the culminating track ‘Things Grow’, with its unyielding chant “Things grow, Things grow legs and run wild”.
Duncan Sutherland (vocals & guitar), Jason Matthews (piano, clarinet, synth & bass), Jackie Baxter (cello), Tom Smith (trombone & violin) and Stephen Coleman (drums & percussion) came together due to a shared love of Radiohead and Mogwai. The band has a strong background in classical training, sharing five music degrees amongst them, which allows a freedom and understanding of experimental arrangements both live and recorded. The band toured the East Coast of the US (coinciding with Hurricane Sandy), bringing their passion for composition to their live shows and ensuring each one has its own developing theme. The video for ‘Falling Lives’ showcases their enthusiasm for cross-art collaboration, featuring a beautifully choreographed interpretive dance that both illuminates and compliments the tone of the music. Each track on The Shouting Cave is strong enough to stand on its own merit, but listened to in its entirety the album irresistibly comes to life.
The Shouting Cave is released on 22nd September 2014.
