Introducing… Shambles In A Husk!

Shambles In A Husk announce their debut single, Cowboy Doom, out now via Red Medicine Records.

Cowboy Doom opens with a face melting demonstration of expert guitar work, coupled with vocals ripped from the depths of a tortured soul. This is a band who’ve got something to say, and they’re saying it loud. The single moves seamlessly between a hectic, foot stomping anthem brimming with expertly crafted riffs akin to Adebisi Shank and an explosion of glorious noise, imagine Refused meets The Dillinger Escape Plan. It’s an outstanding mission statement for a band that are fresh on the scene, with themes reminiscent of Tetsuo: The Iron Man, casting a stern lyrical eye on mankind’s dependence on technology.

The single has already received support from BBC Radio 1's Introducing, you can listen to it now on the band's official SoundCloud page.

Based in Glasgow, Steven Murray (Guitar & Vocals), Kyle Shields (Guitar & Vocals), Jonathan Beveridge (Drums) and Steven Adamson (Bass) formed Shambles In A Husk from the remnants of Crusades and The Darien Venture in late 2013. Despite the keen support from the likes of The Herald, This Is Fake DIY, Rock Sound, Amazing Radio and many more, they decided to make a fresh start so they could hone their talents as songwriters and develop their live shows. The band are heavily influenced by the Washington DC DIY scene and the ethos of bands such as Fugazi and Black Flag.

With three more singles in the pipeline, and their debut EP slated to wrap up 2014 along with a European Tour, Cowboy Doom is only the first step for a band that’s sure to cause a ruckus on the UK’s rock and metal scene.

Cowboy Doom is released today, 3rd March via Red Medicine Records.

Introducing… Hundreds!

"…sophisticated, eminently listenable and elegant."
- Notion Magazine

Hundreds return with their single Circus, taken from their fourth album Aftermath. The album is a masterclass in classy, stripped-back electro, playing with the more organic elements of sound to create something truly astonishing. Circus is a wonderful showcase of their talents as sonic manipulators, shaping a playful and uplifting track, with subtle drum loops and gorgeous melodies running under Eva Milner's understated vocals.

You can listen to the track on the band's official SoundCloud page.

You can also check out the video for Circus on YouTube.

Originally from Hamburg, sibling duo Eva and Philip Milner (aka Hundreds) have been working on the material for their new album for the last 18 months. Their music has captured the dynamic of their creative process, filled with grand emotions and hypnotic arcs of suspense, followed by quieter moments of introspection.
On the other side of this process of creation they have still held on to their Electro roots, but have now discovered a warmer, and more song-oriented sound that’s more organic than their previous offerings.

Circus is about catharsis. Allowing yourself to step back from self-criticism, and see yourself from the outside. Silencing your inner captious critic and giving yourself a release, the freedom to dance. Once you start, the dance will never end.

Circus is released 17th March via Sinnbus.

Introducing… Deathbells!

Deathbells are primed to unleash their own brand of chaos infused rock on the UK with their debut EP, Back To The Needle released 5th May 2014 via Holy Smokes Records.

A nightmarish collection of smut soaked imagery entrenched in a Hubert Selby Jr landscape, Back To The Needle is a raw and powerful debut EP. Guitars and synths shriek with the intensity of hobnail boots on marble, but the songs are constructed in such a way that you find yourself jonesing for more while turning the stereo up. Opening track, “Strippers Don’t Give Change” sets the tone for the rest of the release, before descending into the foot-stomping rock hooks spiked throughout “Bar-L”. There’s more than a swirl of psychedelia in third track “Glow”, which showcases the groups masterful use of synth to add another dimension to their sound. EP-closer “Money Making Sequel” lives up to the old adage, leaving listeners wanting more while ending the record with a bang.

The Glasgow based five-piece consisting of Sam Good aka Sista Midnight (synth and vocals), Sergio Bentley (bass and vocals) Ja Ashwood (drums and vocals), Noah Settering (guitar and vocals) and Joeseph Vance (guitar and lead vocals) insist that they are just trying to write good songs - producing an emotional evolution of post punk and industrial grunge with a smattering of synth thrown in for good measure. They came together after 3 of the band met receiving help for partial deafness at the city’s Stobhill Hospital, before renting out a former Christian radio broadcasting space to rehearse and write in. Sista Midnight and Fraz Mack were later added to the line up after seeing the pair argue over a lucrative busking spot in the city’s west-end. The rest, as is they say, is history.

The resultant debut is a record full of large riff’s, seething synth noises, rumbling bass lines and lyrics about paranoia, self loathing and stories ripped right off the pavement. Whether you like it or not, Back To The Needle is difficult to ignore.

Back To The Needle is released 5th May 2013 via Holy Smokes Records.

Introducing… Universal Thee!

Edinburgh based five piece, Universal Thee are pleased to announce the upcoming release of their debut album, Back To Earth, available 31st March 2014 via Eventual Heirs Records.

Download album track ‘Aranis Natas' for free via SoundCloud.

Check out the video on YouTube.

The album is a daydream of upbeat guitars and vocals, created by the band's free and easy, non-restrictive approach to songwriting that sees them explore every aspect of their own creativity, with more than a healthy nod to influences such as Weezer and Pavement. As a result, the band's sound is hard to define, with tracks such as "Wolves Of The Netherworld" and "Bone Collector" very much channelling the sense of fun that was inherent in a lot of late 90s college rock, while tracks like "Feeling Fragile" and "Down" tell a more personal story. There is no concrete template for Universal Thee - they play what they feel, which is something that some might say is missing in today's ultra-media savvy musical landscape.

James Russell (guitar & vocals), Lisa Russell (vocals), Robin Spivey (guitar) Andrew Perrie (bass) and Kevin Haddow (drums) formed the band in Edinburgh following on from time served in the imaginatively named Lunch with Stevie's Monkey, 19 Folds, The David Icke Experience, and The Mink Stoles. Determined to settle on a name that the entire band could live with, they democratically chose Universal Thee, originally a placeholder, but after a series of establishing gigs at Cabaret Voltaire and Haddowfest, the moniker stuck.

With a fun, refreshing, genre-defying sound that gives every member of the band the opportunity to showcase their unique tastes, Universal Thee are yet another shining example of the delights Scotland's music scene has to offer.

Back To Earth is released March 31st 2014 via Eventual Heirs Records
