The Marks Cartel release ‘Curtain Call’ video!

For fans of: The Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood, Kasabian

The Marks Cartel have released the stunning music video for their debut single, Curtain Call.

The video premiered on Gigslutz and you can watch it now on the band's YouTube Channel.

You can stream the single from the band's SoundCloud page.

Curtain Call is an evolved and raw take on the British rock sound, with dirty, grimy guitars blaring from the speakers, rhythmic, snapping drums and grizzly, emotive vocals. You can hear the band's influences shining through as they take elements of Oasis, mix it with a smattering of The Arctic Monkeys before blending it with a hint of Royal Blood. There are no bells and whistles here. This is unashamed rock and roll at its very best.

You can also stream and download single b-side 'Where Do I Go?' for free from The Marks Cartel's SoundCloud page.

Since the band's inception, they’ve been on a number of adventures, sharing broken bones, stolen phones, and missing drummers mysteriously turning up 58 miles away from their last confirmed location. In short - they’ve been having a great time gearing up for their latest single.

Curtain Call is released 23rd February 2015 via Hamill Records.

Introducing… We Are The City!

For fans of: Mew, The Flaming Lips, Maps & Atlases

We Are The City release their debut album Violent via Sinnbus on 23rd March 2015.

The Canadian three piece say their name comes from 'the imagery of a city being a sort of beacon from a distance. A mark to reach'. With these ten tracks, you feel like you’re reaching ever closer.

To get a taste of We Are The City's sound, check out their video for album track 'Friends Hurt' on the band's YouTube channel.

The band’s influences range from Mew to Bowie and, while this can be heard in their quirky, off-kilter time signatures and whimsical melodies, their sound is very much their own. ‘Bottom of the Lake’ is Band of Horses meets Menomena but in a dream. Single King David and track ‘I Am, Are You?’ combines the kookiness of The Flaming Lips and the off beat melodies of Mew whilst ‘Friends Hurt’ explores the idea of ‘loud and quiet’ with an intricate build up which leads to a wonderful synth led cacophony of noise.

We Are The City have already made a name for themselves in Canada; meeting in high school, they quickly formed a band, recorded an album, toured and amassed a large fan base. Honing their sound within the contemporary indie genre, guitarist David Menzel eventually left the band briefly but their journey didn’t end here, the road was merely altered. The remaining members - Cayne McKenzie and Andrew Huculiak, recorded an EP and toured once more, accruing an even larger fan base and upon David’s return, the three finished their album Violent in a place they lovingly called ‘The Magic House’. It was the perfect creative environment, but they would be the last residents of the fabled house, as it was torn down shortly after. The finishing touches were added by Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, The Zolas, Hey Ocean) who produced and recorded the album with the band in Vancouver’s Monarch Studios.

Alongside the music, We Are The City are also talented directors, script writers and film producers, creating their own music videos and even their own film Violent. Around the same time as recording the album Violent they shot a film in Bergen, Norway, despite none of them being able to speak a word of Norwegian.

The film depicts a young woman and her last memories of the five people who loved her most, recalled while experiencing a catastrophic event. In keeping with the film, the album portrays extremes - death, love, loneliness and reminiscence. Now that the film Violent is travelling the world and winning awards (Vancouver International Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival) it is finally time for the album Violent to leave Canada’s borders.

On Violent, the band explore wild and exciting soundscapes. Their innovative sound scales sonic peaks, and descends into canyons before rising back up. The further you venture into their world, the more the view of their city unfolds revealing a beacon in the far distance. A signal, if you will, from far way. This is We Are The City.

Violent is released via Sinnbus on 23rd March 2015.

White Ape EP ‘Kick It Down’ out now!

For fans of: The Clash, New Model Army, Captain Beefheart

White Ape have released their second EP Kick It Down via Sotones.

Kick It Down is a return to the raw and subversive sound that slicked the streets of ‘70s London, with a deadpan humour and take no prisoners attitude that sees the band take on urban gentrification and highlights the creativity that blossoms in some of the more run down parts of the Capital. While the subjects they tackle may seem bleak, their guitar hooks, witty lyrics and sneering vocals add a sartorial elegance to their sound. Make no mistake, White Ape’s intense live performance loses nothing of its raw energy when committed to record, and this EP is the evidence.

The video for the EP title track premiered on The Vinyl District and you can now watch it on the Sotones YouTube channel.

You can also stream the track via White Ape's SoundCloud page.

With influences ranging from the words of H P Lovecraft to the sheer, unbridled experimentation of Captain Beefheart, Kick It Down presents a snap shot in the lives of four musicians with a flair for social commentary backed up by stripped down, rabble rousing rock. In these ‘interesting times’, their timing could’t be better.

Kick It Down is released via Sotones and available to buy digitally via the Sotones official website.

FUCK ART, LET’S DANCE release ‘ATLAS’ video!

For fans of... Everything Everything, Friendly Fires, Foals

“...melodies so crisp they ought to come foil-wrapped.” - NME

“...rapier-sharp indie-pop...” - The Line of Best Fit

FUCK ART, LET’S DANCE! have returned in 2015 with a stunningly choreographed video for album title track, ATLAS.

The video premiered on The Line Of Best Fit, who described it as a "a gorgeous AV treat", and you can watch it now via the Audiolith YouTube channel.

The band describe the themes behind the video as "...about despair. An insoluble situation where the only end is your own demise. The fight between good and evil was the perfect choice to represent the essence of the song. A determined woman fighting a vicious red dragon, which is responsible for taking the life of a dearly loved person. We’re all fans of 70’s asian martial arts flicks, so we immediately settled with this idea and got to work with Miguel Vasquez and Il Kang, our directors. They’ve assembled a great team and we’re proud of the result to kick off a great 2015."

Album track 'Juvenile Ghost' premiered on Artrocker just before the band's winter 2014 UK tour, and you can now stream and download it for free via Audiolith's SoundCloud page.

FUCK ART, LET'S DANCE's album Atlas is available now via Audiolith. You can buy it on iTunes.

Daydream Frenzy release ‘Pride & Wonder’!

For fans of: Twin Atlantic, Angels & Airwaves, Jimmy Eat World

“…really catchy Rock.”
- Alex Baker, Kerrang! Radio

Daydream Frenzy have released Pride & Wonder, the title track taken from their forthcoming album, due for release 23rd March 2015.

You can stream and buy the single from the Daydream Frenzy BandCamp page.

Watch the powerful video that accompanies the single on the band's YouTube channel.

Pride & Wonder is anthemic pop punk at its best, with lyrics that act like a rallying cry to the disenfranchised, and punchy guitars that punctuate their message. Much like previous track All The World, the chorus lifts the song above mere thrashing guitars, allowing strong harmonies, intricate solos and powerful drums to soar to dizzying heights reminiscent of Twin Atlantic, Angels & Airwaves and Jimmy Eat World.

Originally from Insch and Huntly - small towns outside Aberdeen – the trio take influences from many different genres, combining them to make their own blend of Alternative Rock. The band formed in January 2010 when Donald Barclay (vocals/guitar) and Hamish Gordan (drums) started jamming acoustically at school. Fraser Henderson (bass) then joined to bring in a heavier sound; eventually forming the band you hear now. Four years later, the boys have received support from Kerrang! Radio, Amazing Radio and Scuzz TV. The band have also supported the likes of Big Country, The Maine and Don Bronco and will be embarking on a co-headline tour with Divides later this year.

Daydream Frenzy are an exciting Scottish rock export ready to make 2015 their own.
